Come on!

No Magsafe, No UWB, worse 5g/wifi modem, down-cored CPU with 1 camera on back and 600$ price tag? Who will buy this idiots?
Nobody and that is the point. They want people rather spend on the base iPhone.

I dunno who thought this would sell. Heck, they could have enticed a few sales with a nice color, but that is now hidden behind another purchase of a case.

The big surprise to me is how many people here give a dang about MagSafe.

It's funny - I was definitely a knee-jerk "WTH" to the idea of no Magsafe. But at the end of the day I'm going to use a Magsafe case anyway. That said, I don't actually have any Magsafe chargers - I just like the Magsafe holders in situations like my car. I guess this could be problematic if you're wanting to use a Magsafe charger - though it should still charge wirelessly then?

At the end of the day I still don't understand the omission - Apple has invested so much in the Magsafe accessory ecosystem, and now a certain segment of their user base is going to realize they don't really need it that much... at least need it embedded in the phone itself. Conspiracy theory - this is the beginning of them moving away from it being built into the phone! ;)

Please keep in mind that the Qi on the 16e is up to 7.5w

It's quite slow charging, and that is not mitigated with a MagSafe case, as the phone itself doesn't have MagSafe built inside

For comparison, an iPhone 16 has MagSafe wireless charging up to 25W

$599 is a bad joke. All the design compromises, none of the savings.

I miss when Apple released devices I actually wanted to buy.

$230 less than the 16 isn't a savings?

For only $120 more with same storage, the 16e offers quite a bit over the dated SE including increased RAM, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, emergency SOS via satellite, crash detection, better camera setup, better chip, better modem, better battery, increased max brightness, super retina XDR display, Apple Intelligence, ceramic shield, greater water resistance, larger display, and more.

This phone makes no sense at this price in the USA with so many carriers offering discounts+36 month financing on better models.

I hope these 16e sales be dreadful, which may lead Apple to bring back the Mini's
Don’t hold your breath. It’s a better phone than the 14 in the most important ways for consumers. Not to mention, this is going to be the corporate fleet phone to get as well.

I fully expect this to land in the top 10 of worldwide phone sales for 2025, an honor no mini was ever able to achieve.

Where is "here"? Switzerland? If so, the 128GB 16e in Switzerland is CHF 629 (with VAT/fees) compared to CHF 849 (with VAT/fees) for the 128GB 16. That's a CHF 220 difference. I, again, wouldn't say the 16e is "barely cheaper than the 16" as you had put it.
You can get a 16 128GB for CHF 744 brand new.

There is nothing amazing about the iPhone 16E except the expensive price tag!
Not sure where you’re located but in the USA the main players are Google, Apple and Samsung for mobile devices from carrier stores. It’s priced very competitively as a main player entry level device. Now of course there’s plenty of Android grey market devices available with “better” specs for much lower from the likes of Amazon or eBay.

I’m in the US. Competitively priced would be $449.

This phone makes no sense at this price in the USA with so many carriers offering discounts+36 month financing on better models.

Carriers have long been offering discounts and 36 months financing allowing people to move up to better models if they wanted to whether it was SE to regular, Pro, etc. or now 16e to regular, Pro, etc.

There's still more of a price difference between the 16e and 16 than between the 16 and 16 Pro.

The e phone should replace the std iPhone.

It essentially can for those who don't want some of the 16 features.

People have a choice of going with the 16e starting at $599. getting more features with the 16 starting at $829 or still more features with the 16 Pro starting at $999.

Then have a larger gap to the pro.

You'd rather eliminate the middle tier and have the gap be more like $400 ($599 versus $999)?
