you cant reuse 16 parts into 17 iphone.. so they had to make something to get rid of the old partsI can't follw the logic behind this. "The iPhone 16 did not sell, let's reuse the parts to make something less enticing".

Which I echoed before in this thread. The naming scheme, the stripped down phone with an unattractive price all shows this is part of the "Maybe you should buy the real deal." upsell tactic. If anything, the price and specs of the 16e make the 16 way more attractive. If I were in the market for a new iPhone I'd rather pay $200 or so more and get the full feature list of the iPhone 16 than the 16e.
Effordable 😁What does the "e" even mean?

Embarrassing 😎Effordable 😁
Apple is making the same mistake they did with the XR. Some think the OG SE crowd wanted similar ( to the X) guts, same size screen but much cheaper phone. I didn’t, ~$100 cheaper was fine. Was hoping for pro spec, mini size in the 14,15, and 16. In all cases I would have paid ~$100 less than the pro. $800-$900 for a 16 mini?! YESNot entertaining enough, and NOT a new mini.
Neither have I any problem paying more for a new mini.
Shocker, it is a lower cost phone, so it will not have all the latest pro features.Because it's 2025, the price got jacked and it's thicker, taller, wider and heavier than an SE3
It's embarrassing to not have MagSafe across the line here
Oh, and the 16e has some dog slow Qi charging to boot
Nearly $800 in Europe. Enjoy.600$ for a “budget” phone….
Get real

Nobody in their right mind would pay that much for a such a crappy phone. Add just a bit more and you get a real iphone.
250 Euros here in Finland. 749 vs. 999"A bit more" is 260 EUR to get iPhone 16 where I live.
In Finland equivalent of USD 627. Then we have to add 25.5% VAT for a total of USD 784.
$299 at Total Wireless
You can get the 16e for "free" (via 24 monthly bill credits on "qualifying" plans) if you switch to T-Mobile.
Oof .. Expensive
To be clear, I'm not interested in this device -- just saw a somewhat palatable price so I thought I'd share it.
Also, this "deal" requires a $60/mo phone plan - lmao
I pay $8/mo on USMobile for unlimited talk/text & 2GB Data

Looks like the cheapest qualifying plan is $50/mo
(I'm always blown away to see how much people spend on cell phone plans)
For my phone plan which is unlimited talk, text and data, I pay USD 30. There are no phone deals offered by carriers in this part of the word. They outlawed contracts a few years ago. I can change plans or carriers any time I want.
The carriers must get the flagship phones extremely cheap from Apple and Samsung to make these lock in deals financially rewarding to the carrier.Although not outlawed in the U.S., most carriers have moved away from contract requirements. They instead give phone "discounts" via bill credits spread over 24 to 36 months which means you have to stick with the carrier for that length to get the full savings/incentives. However, you are still free to change plans or carriers anytime you want but would lose whatever balance of the discount/bill credits you would've gotten.
