Interestingly, after all this time, Apple still has the original m3 on their refurb website as their example Mac.

Speculating here, but I bet Apple “unlocks” this dual-screen support for the base M3 MBP. No reason not to.
I'm thinking they won't.

EDIT:

Nope. I'm wrong. Yay!

So the new Apple marketing guidelines are: replace ML with AI. I remember last year the tech press was joking about how many times Google and Microsoft used the word AI or generative AI in their developer conferences. My guess is if you take a shot every time Apple says it this year at WWDC you’ll be drunk pretty quick.

EDIT: The new MacBook Air is finally offered with 16GB of RAM in one of the predefined configurations! No need to build to order for those that need 16GB of RAM!
Is the RAM the only difference between the $1499 and $1699 configurations?

Why go out of your way to refuse to make it standard for the $1499 config, I can't even...

Oh, and also:
Apple Store Pickup is currently unavailable
Makes me question if it's actually offered as a standard SKU or just made to look that way.

It is funny but AI is the latest buzzword. AI has been thrown around as a selling point for a long time but it's really taking off now. With the upcoming AI push for iOS 18 there is no doubt Apple will be going hard with AI.

Most consumers will be familiar with AI compared to ML so gotta shake things up.

13 inch base model with upgraded 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD = 1759 euro. That's very expensive for a relatively small upgrade.
This configuration (10 Core gpu) was 2079.- in 2022 when I bought mine so actually 300 Euros less for an optimized laptop. Still expensive but that's Apple not Acer.

Yawn... no difference really from the M2.

Ps they are still trying to show how fast their new M3 is against the previous Intel laptops, clutching at straws indeed!
It's so bizarre that they are even mentioning the Intel models at this point

That was nearly half a decade ago!

It’s marketing targeting likely upgraders. I’m still using my last gen 2020 intel air, I’m their target to try and get to upgrade (personally I may wait until they fully drop intel support, on the fence), people dont usually upgrade their laptops that often. Someone upgrading now wants to know the delta to what they have, and the folks who are mostly going to be looking to upgrade are intel holdouts and the first folks to buy M1s.

Very nice. UK pricing is just too high for Apple products at the minute. They’re missing a trick not offering 0% interest for 12 months when they want £2k+ off us.
It is high for the UK but it's also the cheapest it's going to be. I don't see Apple handing out price cuts any time soon lol.

Compared to the price of my iPhone and the iPad Pro i was going to buy I think the price of my ordered M3 15" Air is reasonable.

I paid ~£1600 for my 512GB 15 Pro Max (including AC+). The iPad Pro (I can only use M2 prices of course but I assume M3 iPad Pro will be more expensive) with same storage, keyboard (with trackpad), an AppleCare is ~£1,700. Basically exact same price as the 16/512GB Air...and I get more RAM and an OS that actually makes use of the hadware.

To be fair if I did buy an iPad Pro M3 i wouldn't actually get a keyboard so the price would be £1,378 at least (for an iPad Pro 11" !!!) That's insane. At that price I might as well just buy a MacBook Air lol.

I agree with your comments. I’ve got a maxed out iPhone 15PM, M1 Air and M1 iPP.

I think Apple could do better to incentivise regular buyers / upgraders in the UK. Trade in values aren’t great and eBay is full of scammers these days.

I’d max an M3 Air out and pay it over 12 months but I refuse to pay the invisible man 15% interest on top.

RAM and storage prices need to come down, but we all know that.
