I was wondering how they managed to fit in a larger trackpad and function keys. Interestingly, it looks like the bottom hinge part goes directly vertical instead of leaning forwards like the last model. Due to the lighter weight maybe?

Ok, but that’s the point — I don’t want a MacBook, I want an iPad. To me, this is obviously more expensive.

Agree. I prefer the iPad over a MacBook because I can detach the keyboard when I’m lying in bed or on the sofa. A touchscreen is better for that. Then dock when at a desk. Surprising the amount of people that struggle to understand this.

This not being compatible with the Air is the disappointment from today. No doubt it's due to the weight but this means the Air is stuck with no function keys, even the base iPad gets them

That’s precisely why. The iPad is lighter and base is now heavier. Allowing the back to tilt back farther, opening up all that room for function keys and trackpad space

A $300 iPad keyboard?

My goodness

Crazy town

You have no idea what you are talking about. Yes, you can get an ok keyboard for < $100 but those of us who spend all day typing spend a lot more than that on a keyboard. Just the shell of mine (no key caps or switches) was $100. Once everything was said and done it was closer to $300 and I have a keyboard that will last me many years and functions the way I need it to.

Not sure how good this keyboard is but I am sure there will be people who see a benefit to its design.

Laughably expensive. This + 256GB 13in iPad Pro is more expensive than the 512GB 14in MacBook Pro here in Aus.
