Your MacBook falls off your lap???

Damned auto correct and dictation - superfluous comma about to be removed.

My point is, use a MacBook on your lap and it’s stable. Use an iPad + MKB on your lap, and the whole thing is top heavy and wants to tumble off.

Does the new MKB fix this, or will this still be a top-heavy AppleCare-inducing mess?

Does anyone know if you can fold this back to read the iPad like a book/lie flat on a table or does this only work to open the iPad laptop-style?

The stability difference is one of the main reasons I lean towards using my MacBook more than a tablet.

I get that, but you can’t separate the screen from the MacBook and use touch while laying down in bed, in the loo or anywhere else the extra mobility could be appreciated.
Maybe people don't want to have to hold their tablet while watching a movie (or, let's be honest, porn) on their bed. 😂

Another thing is I think they should have gone for black keycaps on the silver version personally. I love the silver/black aesthetic from the MacBooks and it's a pity that can't continue over to the iPad side, especially since the new silver keyboard actually has silver aluminium inside.

If I get a new Magic Keyboard on that basis (tough one as I found myself using my previous 11" Pro hand-held most of the time and using my Mac for keyboard work) I think I might go for the silver iPad Pro with the black Magic Keyboard to keep that two-tone look.

I was wondering how they managed to fit in a larger trackpad and function keys. Interestingly, it looks like the bottom hinge part goes directly vertical instead of leaning forwards like the last model. Due to the lighter weight maybe?
Yes probably due to the lighter weight of the iPad Pro, but they said the keyboard case is lighter too. I assume that means the keyboard base is lighter, and that combined with the more vertical tilt, I really wonder how stable the whole thing will be.

I would be surprised if it wasn't an improvement over the previous generation since unlike with the first one, they actually designed the new MK at the same time they designed the new iPad Pro design.

Expect as you say it'll be lighter to counterbalance the lighter weight of the tablet, but the hinge design will be altered for balancing too.

Fingers crossed it doesn't disappoint.

Will it work with the previous iPad Pro models?
No, because, besides possibly a different fit, this Magic Keyboard is lighter than the previous so it requires a lighter iPad in order to remain (somewhat) stable. The previous/other iPad models are heavier so they would be too top heavy. Also they are thicker so there may be an issue closing the case.
It may still kind of fit unofficially though, probably just won’t be good for the aforementioned reasons. We’ll have to see.

I agree with you. Also on modern MacBook Pros it looks ugly with the black keys on black surround.

They look nice and sleek here.

But massive faux pax not using black key caps on the silver IMO - looks pretty **** to me:

Looks like the standard Magic Keyboard for Macs tho.
True! Though it's not backlit so that makes it slightly more bearable.

For my Mac though I have silver aluminium with black keys and Touch ID - do they not do them anymore?

Just not a fan of white keys ever really - for backlighting especially.

Sorry, but I find these complaints about price of iPad OLED pro and accessories a bit ridiculous.
No one is forcing anybody to buy it.
iPad air is available at more reasonable prices, so are third party keyboard accessories.
The premium iPad pro OLED is not for everyone. Would you rather see Apple make a cheaper but necessarily lesser top of their line iPad just so people would still be able to brag about owning it? Does anyone think that Apple could've built it cheaper in today's inflationary environment?
I can't afford and wouldn't buy anyway a super expensive car but I'm not complaining that they exist.

Try converting these prices to Canadian… that's $479 for the 13-inch keyboard.

Try converting to yen!

Or multiplying by any other arbitrary conversion constant... "You think it was a long walk? It was only 5 miles for you, but it was over 8km for me!" 😄
