I was just kidding. But if your contract does not clearly state full time then be prepared to possibly bounce from 20 to 40 hours and back again with short notice. Honestly, I think someone at Apple dropped the ball when they told us a week ago that we'd have 40 hours per week through Jan. While it was clearly within what our contracts stated it was not very good employee relations to set that expectation.

20 hours a week is better than nothing but the income is still too close to a full time minimum wage job. At least I'll have the time to pursue regular full time employment or go back to freelancing during off time.

Mine definately said 40. You should try coming over to CPU.

I accepted another job offer recently since I never heard from Apple but good luck to you guys who got hired. I can imagine the phone calls are almost as bad as some of the threads over in the iPhone forum.

I had been avoiding going on a "last minute" vacation in case I got the call and needed to be home to get and complete the paperwork, etc.

However that has not happened.

Not one single word from Apple. I realize employment is not guaranteed at any stage until it actually happens. However I am annoyed beyond belief that the person at the only e-mail I have for them has not bothered replying to me after several attempts to reach them. Especially when you have gone through the background check phase and were originally quoted a start date that is now 10 days away. Well that date is impossible now I'd think.

I still have *some* hope, mainly because I have not received a thanks-for-playing rejection e-mail. Really though I've been an emotional wreck and have had many sleepless nights while waiting. Apple is a huge company and the "it" one not only in IT but perhaps the whole world at the moment. This has been the farthest I've gotten in an application process in quite some time and I got over excited too quickly perhaps.

I'm going on vacation I think. If they call, they call. I can worry about getting home in that case. I want my life back from waiting.

/sigh

Thanks Trevorman, for replying :). I don't think they will call over the weekend, so you should definitely go and enjoy yourself! I have emailed a couple of times too, with no reply. I can only imagine how very busy they have been lately, and are likely just inundated with things to do :( At least I do have a full time job so it's not like I'm depending on this.. I just want to work from HOME!!
Have a great weekend! Hopefully you go on vaca, and enjoy yourself, and don't worry too much about that call. Hopefully they will call next week and our classes will just be pushed back or something...

I've been meaning to ask about Kelly for a while. Just where do they fit into the calling pools of Apple support? Are they first line for some products or is everyone in the same pool?

I guess it strikes me as odd that Apple would hire in house for Apple Care support while outsourcing a (seemingly significant) chunk of it. Companies usually are either/or but not both.

Someone asked this question in training and we were told that contractors (Kelly, Volt) have no contact with Apple employees. They are kept completely separate because of security reasons. They do not complete training with Apple employees, their support queues are separate, they have their own team managers and trainers and their calls are routed differently. Everything is kept separate.

Would love to but can't transfer for 6 months :(

Where all can you transfer to?

----------

Have been watching for full time position to be posted in this area for months but they were all part-time so that is what I ended up applying for and being offered. The hiring manager said full-time positions almost always had to be bid on once you got hired. So I would say you were very lucky to secure a full time position and congrats on getting your 'shiny paperwork'! Looking forward to getting mine :D.

By the way, how long did it take you to get the official 'offer email' after you got the offer call? Recruiter extended offer on Wednesday and said email should arrive no later than Thursday but still haven't received it. Should I worry yet?

Yeah, I am surprised.
Both my offer email and official letter is the same.
They both state 40 hours a week, full time.

I had my verbal offer last Thursday, said I would recieve my email the following Monday, but actually received it yesterday (Weds.)

They try to make sure you recieve your email offer in time to give a full 2 week notice.

No need to worry.

Yea, it's a do your time in trenches kinda place. I hope to move on as soon as possible to servers, or some other specialty.

I get the impression that moving laterally is no easy feat. Going from tier 1 in your respective group to tier 2 isn't too difficult, going from iOS to CPU or CPU to OSX server is another matter. That move is based primarily on Apple's needs and you get no more one month training programs. So for someone in iOS like me to shift to CPU would not be easy unless I had enough prior Mac knowledge to do so.

I don't foresee doing this long term anyway, it's nice working from home but I need more than 20 hours per week and my 20 year career has been based on network administration not iPhones and iPads. I'm just working on making enough bucks to relocate.

The only reason Kelly's rate went from $9.15 to $9.75 is because Apple recently increased the hourly rate of employees. The highest rate I've seen disclosed is $16.25 for the at-home position. I can only imagine how Kelly is positioning this pay increase to employees. Their email communication is spammy. Many don't even know about the opportunity at Apple.

I still get calls from Kelly asking me if I still want the job. I would not have known about Apple hiring directly if it had not been for this forum.

Hi, I'm going through the interview process now. Applied Wednesday, 10/17, got the questionnaire email Thursday 10/18, had a short interview later that day, moved on to an interview with a recruiter yesterday, 10/19. Got the email to set up 3rd interview along with the official application. First available date for 3rd interview was next Wednesday, 10/24. I was told if I am hired, it will start 11/26, I asked and it's CPU. They stressed is was part time.

My questions are...did anyone starting on 11/26 get full time on their paperwork/offer? Do they ever have full time & part time people in the same class? Obviously I'd LOVE full time, but will be glad if I'm just able to get my foot in the door.

Thanks in advance for any information.

@AngryGerbil: I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum of your preferences. I sure wish you and I could swap positions! LOL

Mine definately said 40. You should try coming over to CPU.

I received a guaranteed 40 hours offer letter and everyone in the 10/8 cpu is fulltime. My previous job everybody that I know that got offerred a job with apple were fulltime. I left a fulltime job with better pay for this one, so I surely wouldn't have taken parttime.

I did hear that they over hired on ios, theres alot of time between calls compared to cpu. A couple of people in ios that I know from my previous job were put in a totally different support group other than ios and they just started. So they could throw you into something else it happens.
