You only do one interview when you go through Kelly. I'm going to have to call them in the morning and see if I can get in there to do my I-9 before I leave town Friday morning because the writing is clearly on the wall since I had my third interview on Monday and never got a BGC request. I can only assume I'll be getting the "Thanks for playing" email tomorrow morning.

Oh well, at least I'll still have a job.

Wow. That's great. I guess depending on the position may determine how many interviews. Which one did you go for?

I'm not speaking for MSERBANTEZ, but the student hiring process only involves one interview. The standard hiring process seems to involve three in most cases, although there appear to be exceptions.

The IRS gets copies of your W-2s through the SSA directly from your employer. You aren't legally required to hold on to them, it's just a good idea.

Sorry Jed, you have no clue what you're talking about here. Although if you think you do, feel free to provide links to the statutes you think apply.

No, I'm not in Cincinnati, I have no idea why that would be relevant.

This is straight from the IRS and explains where every copy of the W-2 goes (note that none of them go directly to the IRS):

Employers must complete, file with the Social Security Administration (SSA) and furnish to their employees Form W-2 (PDF), Wage and Tax Statement, showing the wages paid and taxes withheld for the year for each employee. Because Form W-2 is the only document used to transmit information regarding employees' social security and Medicare wages for the year, it is very important to prepare Form W-2 correctly and timely.

The official Form W-2 is available as a multi-copy form packet. The form packet provides all six copies that the user may need for each Form W-2 (Copy A, Copy 1, Copy B, Copy C, Copy 2, and Copy D). Copy A of Form(s) W-2 must be sent to the SSA with the transmittal Form W-3 (PDF) by the last day of February. Special due dates apply if you have terminated your business or you are filing electronically. The Form W-3 and Copy A of each Form W-2 that is sent to SSA must be a scannable-form version and can be ordered online through the IRS.gov website at http://www.irs.gov, or by calling 800-829-3676. Refer to the Form W-2 and W-3 Instructions for additional information. Send Copy 1, if applicable, to your state, city or local tax department. Contact that state, city or local tax department for requirements and transmittal information. The employer copy, Copy D, should be retained for 4 years.

You must give Copies B, C and 2 of Form W-2 to the employee by January 31. If an employee stops working for you before the end of the year, you may give your former employee Form W-2 anytime prior to January 31, but no later than January 31. If the employee asks for the Form W-2, you must give Copies B, C, and 2 to the employee within 30 days of the request, or within 30 days of the final wage payment, whichever is later.

All of which you can find here: http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc752.html

If some fly-by-night company didn't file the paperwork in the first place, wouldn't it be MORE suspicious if an employee had a copy? They would be providing information that conflicted with the legal record, rather than substantiated it.

And I don't have a tax advisor because I don't need one. My taxes have never been so complicated that I couldn't handle them myself. And considering that I've handled payroll (and the related tax withholding and record keeping) for literally hundreds of business, my personal taxes have always been kind of a breeze.

Finally, that info you linked to applies to businesses, not the employees, which is what was being discussed. An EMPLOYEE who didn't have their records. So again, while it is advisable to keep your W-2 forms for several years, there is no law requiring you to do so as an employee or former employee.

The IRS isn't terribly scary if you know what you're doing.

And just FYI, my only experience with a jailhouse is visiting one before it even opened to tour the facility.

By chance are you in Cincinnati? Just wondering.

Well 1st, they don't get them From SSA, they get them from the employer directly.

2nd, the IRS does not take kindly to incomplete records, especially during an Audit.

3rd. Well a lot of businesses have close do to the now too long poor economic conditions, his past employer may or may not have furnished them W2 to the IRS, they might not have even provided them with an W4 or I9

4th What to say they even payed the taxes they collected from him. While some real companies have closed (Worlcomm, Enron, Sharper Image) many fly by night companies have closed/moved on in the past decade or so.

As far as statutes, ask your Tax advisor how long he is bound to hold on to them. Mine keeps the for 7 years which they reduced about 5 years ago.

How long should I keep records?
The length of time you should keep a document depends on the action, expense, or event the document records. Generally, you must keep your records that support an item of income or deductions on a tax return until the period of limitations for that return runs out.
The period of limitations is the period of time in which you can amend your tax return to claim a credit or refund, or that the IRS can assess additional tax. The below information contains the periods of limitations that apply to income tax returns. Unless otherwise stated, the years refer to the period after the return was filed. Returns filed before the due date are treated as filed on the due date.
Note: Keep copies of your filed tax returns. They help in preparing future tax returns and making computations if you file an amended return.
You owe additional tax and situations (2), (3), and (4), below, do not apply to you; keep records for 3 years.
You do not report income that you should report, and it is more than 25% of the gross income shown on your return; keep records for 6 years.
You file a fraudulent return; keep records indefinitely.
You do not file a return; keep records indefinitely.
You file a claim for credit or refund* after you file your return; keep records for 3 years from the date you filed your original return or 2 years from the date you paid the tax, whichever is later.
You file a claim for a loss from worthless securities or bad debt deduction; keep records for 7 years.
Keep all employment tax records for at least 4 years after the date that the tax becomes due or is paid, whichever is later.
The following questions should be applied to each record as you decide whether to keep a document or throw it away.
Are the records connected to assets?
Keep records relating to property until the period of limitations expires for the year in which you dispose of the property in a taxable disposition. You must keep these records to figure any depreciation, amortization, or depletion deduction and to figure the gain or loss when you sell or otherwise dispose of the property.
Generally, if you received property in a nontaxable exchange, your basis in that property is the same as the bases of the property you gave up, increased by any money you paid. You must keep the records on the old property, as well as on the new property, until the period of limitations expires for the year in which you dispose of the new property in a taxable disposition.
What should I do with my records for nontax purposes?
When your records are no longer needed for tax purposes, do not discard them until you check to see if you have to keep them longer for other purposes. For example, your insurance company or creditors may require you to keep them longer than the IRS does.

What ever, play with the IRS if you like, it seems like your made for each other.
Are you also a jailhouse lawyer?

All the Best,
Jedi

Not to butt in and butt heads, but doesn't that guide pertain to Small Businesses and Self Employed persons? It seems to suggest so in the URL address as well as the page itself. Not saying you're wrong, 6 to 7 years is a rule of thumb, and the IRS will nitpick if your records aren't as immaculate as theirs.

Generally, you should keep your tax returns and supporting information (i.e., receipts, W-2 forms, bank statements) for ~6 -7 years. The IRS has 3 years to audit a return, or 2 years after you have paid the tax, whichever is later. However, if income was under reported by ~20-24%, the IRS can look back six years, and there's not a time limit for fraudulent or incorrect tax returns.

Either way, I have a filing cabinet that I've been squirreling my returns in.

Your required by Law to hold/maintain those records for seven years.

Who filled filed/filled out your returns? If it was a tax adviser they will have a copy of the forms.

If you filed yourself then well, this bcg could be the least of your worries.

The IRS is nobody to screw with. For what it's worth your not the only clown on this thread to not have them. They only check the last seven years, how many employers have you had that went out of business in that time?

Good Luck,
Jed
I have only had 3 full time jobs in the last seven years, and 1 went out of business

Moved on to what?

Did you ge t a big or offer?

What group and start date do you have?

EMPATHY is really huge, and will Remain HUGH through you employment with Apple, #1 item of importance, as it's something they can train one to do.

Regards,
Jed

I had one phone interview then recieved an email to go to my local Kelly office to fill out my I9, I then only awaited the background check. I got a call from onboarding about a week later offering me the position. My original training class was April 29th. But I declined the position. I have them a call back and let them know I was interested about three days ago and she told me I would be scheduled for the June 10th class. The next day the onboarding team called me to offer me the position again and I accepted. Now there's nothing left to do but wait.

Wow. That's great. I guess depending on the position may determine how many interviews. Which one did you go for?

I'm a tier one advisor, my training start date is June 10th.

I havent posted on here in a while and figured id throw out an update. I officially got the position and my iMac is actually on its way to my house to be delivered today! Thats actually what i had the question about. They said that when i receive my iMac not to open it and set it up until my start date. They said id have enough time before and to wait for the allowed 30 minutes extra for set up. How crucial is it that i dont set it up before my first day? like does it really matter? I dont plan on connecting it to the internet or anything, i just want to get it all opened and set up on my desk the way i want it. i probably wont even turn it on to be honest with you. Any of the people who already have the position and went through this part, please let me know what you did or some info on that. thanks.

I just had my 3rd interview for the July 1st Class, and my contact said he was going to recommend me for the position, and that they would be reaching out to continue the process soon. I got an e-mail asking me to update my info on the apple jobs site, but no Background Check email yet.

Anyone else in the class yet? Any information? I'm so incredibly excited, but I don't want to let myself get over excited just yet. :)
