Anyone know if comcast is considered a VOIP......

The most accurate answer is yes, Comcast uses VOIP to provide phone services but Comcast phone is acceptable for use with Apple. It is what they consider to be a "digital" phone service. What they don't want is Vonage, Packet 8, Magic Jack, or other VOIP services that connect to your existing ISP. You can use a phone service provided by your ISP. The real question you must ask yourself is about reliability. I worked for a cable ISP for 8 years before joining Apple and I must say that the service I supported was generally not as reliable as service you can get from a traditional POTS carrier. Just use your best judgment and use what's best for you.

Spanish At Home Advisor

Well I submitted several apps throughout last week. Last night (Saturday) at 10:30pm I got an email from an Apple recruiter regarding a SPANISH AHA position I applied. I am fluent in Spanish, so I thought I would attempt it. However, I was hoping for an English speaking opportunity as my Spanish is not 100% perfect.

Well, I was sent a link in the email which takes me to a survey...This survey was very unique. It was a self assessment on the target language. It had me respond to three essay questions in Spanish. Also, it gave me a couple of written role play scenarios (in Spanish). Some questions about my experience in speaking and writing in Spanish and familiarity with Apple products were asked as well.

I am freaking out. I answered everything well, but its seems to be more rigorous of a selection process for bilingual AHA.

If my app is reviewed for Spanish, does it take me out of other applications in other cities (English)? Or, can I also receive callbacks for other applications as well? Anyone have any info or experience on this?

Ok well got a call from an international recruiter who screens foreign language applicants. She said I wouldn't be a candidate for Spanish (not fast enough ---they want native speakers) but she will refer me to an English recruiter because otherwise I'm an ideal candidate (?). I hope she is serious.

Didn't see this answered on the forums so may just call HR tomorrow and ask but when do they ask what your house number is. They may have asked on the paperwork but I don't remember. Just curious so they have my home telephone number.

Hey how does apple check your home office setup and internet speed?? , will they like call me on facetime and have me walk around the office and also do a internet speedtest while we facetime? or do we just take a picture/snapshot or whatever and email it to them?, I just want to know exactly how will the be checking all of these things.

I saw someone say they have you take a screen shot from speedtest.net for the internet speed. But I'm curious about the office too. .

As with just about everything else related to this job, the answer is... it depends.

How did they check my internet speed? They didn't - ever. And I get about 65-70 Mbps down and 20-25 Mbps up, for whatever that's worth, so I was prepared. For other people, a visit to speedtest.net and a screen shot were required.

The ergonomics people do require photos to demonstrate that the office setup meets the requirements. Again though, how this translates for an individual is anyone's guess. I sent my pics in and fully expected them to make me buy a new chair. I have an old beat-up piece of crap that my ex-wife's parents gave me for Christmas about a hundred years ago. My setup was approved as-is. Others, who may very well have better arrangements than mine, have been required to buy new chairs/desks/etc.

I think the basic point is that they're not trying to be dicks for the sake of being dicks. If your internet speed seems sufficient to handle the training, then it's probably sufficient to do the job. If your home office is somewhere in the ballpark of the ergonomic requirements, then they'll give it a thumbs-up and send you on your way.

Based on what I've seen, I think they should actually be a lot more strict about the internet speed. Numerous people encounter problems, day after day after day, and blame these problems on the Apple network. The Apple network does in fact suck balls, and the tools that we use are buggy and obnoxious, but those of us with fast and reliable internet connections don't encounter nearly as much difficulty as some of our colleagues. But for now you can get by with 2 Mbps of download speed.

LOL, I wish I were a youngster... All we have been doing is saving money because I haven't worked in 3 months, don't you worry about me. :)

I won't worry:). The only reason I made the comment is that most people I come across (especially those under 50) look at a paycheck and think about the things they're going to buy with it. I look at a paycheck and think about how much of it I can put in the bank. I also happen to be the product of parents that grew up during the depression era and have been somewhat immune to the consumerism bug that afflicts many Americans.

I look at my paycheck and realize, without Social Security (which I doubt my generation will get) I better stick it under my mattress so I can eat when I'm 80. :p

If it wasn't for my Credit Union I'd be using a mattress as well. As far as Social Security... I'm a tad over 50 and am already stockpiling dehydrated food.
