I wouldn't worry too much. Apple has a lot of incredibly smart people who are very experienced in gaming out what the company should be doing to keep it's 1+ Billion active and repeat customers happy and continuing to purchase Apple products.

Apple will do whatever is necessary to keep that going. They're not stupid. And is why Apple is one of the most successful tech companies in the world. They'll make the right decisions.

The sky isn't falling, though I know that disappoints a lot of people who don't like Cook and Apple.
Well I hope you’re right and they’re starting to show soon what they’ve been doing. They are on a standstill for too long.

Oh I get what you mean. Yeah, this isn't a left or right issue, and it stuff like this happens all the time behind the scenes, especially with corporations, and we never hear about it. And those same corporations help pay the salaries through advertising of the people whose job it is to report these things, so they never report on it. And the worst part is that it's all legal.

I can go on a very long rant about this topic lol.
I'm a 7 block walk from the back lawn of the White House, so yeah, I hear you.

It is unique - which President elect in recent history openly used tariffs and the federal government to threaten companies, corporate leaders, etc who didn't fall in line? The Post, the LA Times and all these companies are compelled to do this precisely because of Trump's authoritarian leanings. Trump's nominee to run the FBI literally has an enemy list. This not normal.
DJT's behavior may be "not normal" as you said, but that's a red herring in the context of this discussion. Inaugural donations are very standard practice, as are the myriad ways that political figures and organizations get donations, perks, favors, and so on. It's not unique to DJT.

The fully loaded, real cost of presidential inaugurations (donations to inaugural committees are only a fraction of the true cost) have been over $100M for decades now. Is DJT a pomp-and-circumstance kind of guy who likes bigger events? Sure, and that's why he blasted past Obama's record inaugural spending the first time around.

That doesn't, however, change the facts here though. It's just standard operating procedure.

These days, there are lots of things that are reasonable for us to get angry about. Inaugural donations themselves shouldn't be on that list.

It would have at least made some sense if Apple had donated the cash, corporate influence and favour and all that. But a personal donation? That really does bring into question Tim’s morality.
My guess is that if Apple as a company was doing so, more people will leave Apple. Someone has to lick the emperor to fall into his favor 😅

All of these business leaders are cowards with no real values. That’s the truth of it. Despite the phenomenal wealth the U.S. and its democracy has helped them build, they’ll kowtow to some ignorant egomaniac at the first hint that they might be threatened.
It's their job. It's what they're paid to do. It's what they are legally required to do. It's nearly impossible to make an argument to the contrary that isn't full of emotional reasoning.

This is nothing more than Bizzare... Trump hates anyone who is Gay or Transgender, for an openly gay man such as Tim Cook to donate to a criminal is BIZZARE what is wrong with america.. i mean really.
Or, and just hear me out here, maybe you’re wrong in your assessment of Trump!

I’m gay and I don’t believe for one second that Trump hates me. Nothing has indicated that he does. It just always seems to be excited people like you telling me he does.

Not really. It's actually a very, very smart play. It accomplishes the objective with less backlash.

^ this is the reasoning. This was a carefully calculated decision. Timmy didn't do this on a whim, and anyone who thinks this wasn't a big topic of conversation at Apple is mistaken.

If you are wondering why everyone in his circle seem like grifters, it is because they have learned that he is easy to manipulate and way too accessible for someone in his position of authority.

It's so funny because you're on here probably refreshing every 10 secs to react/reply to people & don't realize I'm referring to them too.

It's 2025, stop falling for the trap of Dem/Repub..they're both the same thing. Lol smh.

Having worked in the political sector before, it's just politicians full stop. Horrible lot all of them. Almost as bad as tech CEOs.

Can say the same for UK Conservative/Labour merry go round each election. All talk a load of crap and can never answer a question straight up with a yes or no answer.

2. Criticism and Controversies:

• Concerns were raised about the transparency and allocation of the funds.
• A significant portion of the money was reportedly spent on luxury goods, inflated payments to consultants, and extravagant events.
• Investigations later examined potential misuse of funds or illegal influence by donors seeking political favors.
This happens at pretty much every single inauguration, presidential or gubernatorial. It's just a question of degree and extent. The purpose of an inauguration is, first and foremost, hob-nobbing. Influence is, unfortunately, kind of the point.

To be clear, I'm not defending it whatsoever. I'm just saying it's not unique.

I tend to blank out with the convicted criminal lawfare allegations. The plaintiff didn't even have to prove he was in Bergdorf Goodman's, and Judge Juan Merchan's take on hush money is conveniently prejudicial.
A jury with way more information than you, who sat there and watched his behavior in court, who listened to all of the recordings, who saw all the evidence, decided unanimously he did it. Meanwhile he repeatedly threatened them and the court throughout the whole proceeding. He is guilty and the only reason he isn't in prison is because he is a former president. Even just his conduct during the proceeding would have placed any regular person in jail.

Trump really amazes me. You either hate him or love him.

Clearly more people loved him this time which is why he won.

But you all have to stop being so melodramatic. The USA survived last time, and honestly Biden was/is so clueless that having a U.S. president who doesn’t wander off randomly or get confused is a big improvement.

DF makes a few important points:

In times like this, realpolitik is the only politics. I wouldn’t have the stomach to make this donation, and those of you disgusted by this likely don’t either. Few people are cut out to be the CEO of a large multinational company like Apple. Sometimes you have to eat the **** sandwich.

... only Cook personally, not Apple as a company, is contributing. That’s Cook asking for any and all ire to be directed at him, personally, not Apple.

I hate that Trump is extorting money for political favors. Such a banana republic :(

A lot of people on here don't seem to understand politics very well and have been infected with this good vs evil agenda. If you're not on 'my side' then you're evil!

Look, the democrats have been on a vengeance to 'reign in' tech companies, apple being one of them. What's more surprising is that the Trump admin wants to de-regulate things.
> Sources that spoke to Axios said that Cook is donating to the inauguration "in the spirit of unity."

Haha. Pay the bribe to try and make antitrust go away and hopefully get a tariff carve out. I'd respect them more if they just called it what it is.
If you really think 1M is a bribe you have a lot to learn.
