No such thing as good. No one has been able to prove otherwise. People can make all kinds of empty platitudes about something can't come from nothing and this and that but that still doesn't even come close to being proof there is such a thing as a good. I'm sure in another 1000 years those people will think the religions we have today are nuts....I don't know why people haven't realized that this cycle goes on and on and on.

A Universe can come from nothing as exposed by Lawrence Krauss latest book. It has proof that it doesn't violate the law of quantum physics as we know it today. Of course, the book is so complex, that most people, can't even understand any of it. I did read the book but to be honest. I am nowhere near qualify to explain all of it.

Sorry, but I'm done buying Apple products as long as Tim Cook is CEO. Using his public position to push the agenda of hate and intolerancs aka. the gay agenda, is disgusting. Keep your bizarre sexual behavior to yourself, Tim, nobody wants to hear about it.

Those Android tablets are looking better and better.
Something good did come out of Tim Cook announcing his sexual orientation. However, Android was openly supportive of gays like 4 years ago.

But you are against the idea of all people being treated equality..? Yes or no?
i'm saying people will never be treated equal. What I beleive is irrevalant

To those who state "'Why should I care?":

You obviously take your heterosexuality and its social conveniences for granted. Living day to day, you don't have to worry about being beaten, ostracized, dismissed by your family, have the highest suicide rates and depression, earn less, have less access to better career opportunities - unless you marry someone from the opposite sex and play along with everyone else, denied a chance at happiness. This is important because YOU take it for granted.

What if the roles were reversed? What if heterosexuality was frowned upon? What if you had to marry a member of the same sex, have intercourse with them, raise children, pretend to be happy, just to keep your job, feel safe, not be threatened? Could YOU do it?

It is a big deal. Grow up, move on, deal with it. Many have to put up with heterosexuality thrown in their faces daily, in movies, books, commercials, on the street - suck it up, buttercup, and move on.

Easy, the same reason anyone is irrationally racist or bigoted - their own lives are pathetic and it gives them comfort to find a scapegoat for the reasons they failed. Or, sometimes, they just like to feel superior to others. That also gives them comfort.

Whoa now, that was an unnecessarily close-minded blanket statement. Sure, there are people that applies to. I think it’s more likely that people who exibit these descriminatory impulses were simply raised in such a way that those impulses have become part of their societal contextual filters. It takes hard, personal effort to change those filters, and some people simply haven’t put the effort in.

So call it what it is. An inherited predjudice that’s still around because humans are inherantly lazy. That doesn’t mean they’ve failed as individuals. It just means they need some encouragement to seek ways to grow.

Some things I don't understand about the USA (I've not being there):

-Why do people dislike gays and black people so much

-Why do people prefer to spend their taxes on giving democracy to someone on the other side of the world but don't want to spend their taxes on improving the health of another american

I'm talking seriously, it's A-M-A-Z-I-N-G

You're so advanced in many senses and so absurd in others

First and most importantly, don't judge a nation based on the very small, but very vocal, group of bigots and hate mongers. Remember too that the media has an interest in making things look dramatic and sweeping, while in fact most Americans (like most other people in the world) belong to the silent, moderate majority.

Second, America, unlike MOST other places in the world, has dramatically diverse people, culture, religions, ideals, ethics and so on. Whenever this happens it causes social division and issues, even though that may not speak well of us it is no different than the racism/difficulties Muslims and the like see in England, France, Netherlands etc (or Hindus in Pakistan, Muslims in India, Christians in Iran/Egypt, whatever). It's really easy to give everyone the same status and opportunities when you are all 99% alike.

Of course, maybe America is at fault for not doing a very good job at trying, but I think overall our record and desirability as a home address is still pretty good.

I love how this is limited to only people with more than 100 posts on the forums, yet it’s still onto 27 pages.

Also, that seems like an arbitrary way to limit commenters. Just because we’ve got more than 100 posts we’re automatically not crazy or immature?

Right.

The reasons for the 100 post minimum is explained in the PRSI forum rules sticky thread

The Politics, Religion, Social Issues forum is provided for forum members who have interests in Apple and also in social issues. The 100-post minimum (as shown in your user profile) helps keep out users who have no other business being at MacRumors and simply want to stir up other users. It also keeps out well-meaning members who are simply new to MacRumors; we accept this tradeoff and welcome these members once they qualify.

Exactly, religion exists to fill the gaps of human knowledge at any given time. The term god is a simple way for people to explain what is currently unexplainable. Unfortunately, when we can finally explain something scientifically, a good portion of the current generation will fight it. Fortunately, the next generation is more accepting of this new truth and every generation after that until eventually everyone accepts it as the fact it is. It's called progress.

Unfortunately, there will always be something we are unable to explain and therefore there will always be religion :(

Please provide a list of these scientists that believe evolution has been guided by an intelligent being.

Tim Cook isn't the only one who came out. So did Pope Francis, who has publicly declared that god created the universe _with evolution built into it_. Not a word about evolution being guided by anyone or anything. So if you made a list of "scientists and popes" then Pope Francis is _not_ on that list.

So then please tell me what being gay has to do with technology and computing?
Why is the CEO of apple obliged to talk about sexuality?

If you cannot see there is an agenda then you are just plain ignorant. You don't have to be 'homophobic' to identify this clear agenda.

Apple is just one of a growing number of companies to publicly acknowledge that they support equality.

I wouldn't call it Apple or Tim's "agenda" (def. the underlying intentions or motives of a particular person or group.) to "promote the gay agenda" whatever that even means.

Tim Cook is the CEO of one of the worlds most valuable companies, they make computers and mobile devices and are expanding into others areas as well.

They seem to value social and cultural differences. They work towards making products more environmentally responsible, they use solar power for their data centers, etc, etc...

These are responsible acts that better our world, not an underlying motive.

So officially acknowledging he is gay, is not promoting an agenda, it is simply letting people know that regardless of your sexual orientation you can accomplish big things in life if you strive to do so.

The Point:

He is human, regardless of his job/title he has the right to express his opinions. It does't have to be only about Apple products.

Rant:

I see this the same as people who don't agree with actors expressing their opinions on things and say things like "shut up and stick to acting".

They are human too and have the right to express their opinion, you don't have to agree with it.
