You know you don’t always have to pass off pricing and cost of living discrepancies for employees to the consumer right? I’m sure a trillion dollar corporation can afford it.

Apple employees - we deserve better pay.

Apple - sounds good, we’ll just pass it off to the consumer and raise prices.

@tridley68 - everything has gone up so guess I should pay more and still earn the same in my current job.

Companies create artificial inflation and if people are willing to pay why lower it? It’s a vicious cycle but don’t you dare justify it.
eek, take an economics class, Karl.

I'm curious. What is the amount of the profit Apple is making on the batteries after all the expenses ?

I'm surprised that someone knows the amount since Apple is usually very secretive.
Batteries are cheap. Labour is not THAT expensive. I don't know if they were making 50, or 60, or 70, or 80 bucks profit (before tax), but it is plenty...

Holy smokes! You mean a larger battery with greater capacity costs more money?

Shiver me timbers!

Who woulda thunk that? Certainly not the people who believe Apple's sole mission in life is to screw over its loyal 1 billion active (and repeat) customers.

I'd bet the build price didn't go up more than 20 cents...

Creating a new component (in this case, a different sized battery for the iPhone that, according to the item, has been redesigned for better heat management, as compared to a set of battery cells alone) requires engineering and design, R&D, a new manufacturing line. It's not just a set of battery cells. My bet is a 20-cents increase is lowballing to a hilarious degree.

Funny. For exactly this reason I switched my USB-C to USB-C cable and USB-C Apple Watch charger for a USB-A to USB-C and USB-A Apple Watch charger on my desk yesterday. I am done with fast charging after having learned how badly it affects battery life. I will only use fast chargers for hikes when I want charging to be as fast as possible.

Also, Apple increased charging speeds of both the Apple Watch Series 10 and iPhone 16, so that's going to make battery aging even worse.

Apple is clearly pushing people to destroy their batteries faster so they need to replace them faster and because that wasn't enough they increased battery replacement prices.

I have only once changed an iPhone battery and that was my mom's 6S battery when there was that temporary battery replacement program from Apple that made it much cheaper (29€) after batterygate.

Build cost estimates for iPhone batteries vary online, from $2-10. Worst case for Apple, that's still providing a LOT of leeway for labour costs and overheads!

Sure, and you have all the insights into Apple’s actual cost, right?
users still have a choice: DIY, 3rd party or non official 3rd party , and how often will the battery be replaced?

You can buy official batteries yourself... that gives you a pretty good idea that they cost less than the sale price to produce. 😅 As for labour costs, you can Google that for a good idea too. This isn't rocket science, jz0309.

Edit: The only time I didn't replace a battery myself it was when I was in China, and for $20 I got an official battery installed. I know labour costs little there, but they wouldn't subsidise parts costs to appease the tall foreigner 😅

So all manufacturers have to make battery replacement easier, and Apple increases the price to do it!?

Huh!? This doesn't make any sense.

iPhone 16 Plus battery is larger than Pro Max.

But the cost to replace the battery on Pro is more. All of the iPhone 16 series have the metal design.

This is just a pure cash grab for Pro owners because Apple knows they can pay.

:D
