I remember the day when UPS had a problem due to weather conditions outside USA. In that event they delivered phones very next day (It was Saturday)
It has. Way back, original iPod Touch launch, I got notification from FedEx that the shipment was due to deliver almost a week late. Called Apple, rep was incredibly apologetic, and got a $200 credit to the online store. Not an hour later do we get an email from FedEx that the tracking update was in error and that the packages should be expected as promised with the original email. Got it on launch day.
Also happened before with a phone launch as well, but can't remember which one. Said it was coming late (with no changes made on my end) and it came fine. The UPS system automatically starts updating delivery times based off of normal scheduled operations. If it thinks it missed a flight or if it reroutes, it'll update tracking. That doesn't mean the UPS isn't doing something to fix it.

I mentioned earlier that my Amazon orders have been flipping around all over the place today, too. I think it's a serious problem. I'm pretty confident they will be here tomorrow barring any sorting issues in Louisville tonight.

Mine is now (finally) in California (512GB iPhone XS Max Space Gray).
It's going to a UPS hub, and weirdly enough, the delivery time on the desktop site says "by the end of the day," while on the mobile site it says by 10:30am. On the little MyChoice home deliveries dropdown menu, it says by 4pm, and on the table view for MyChoice, it says "NOT AVAILABLE." So safe to assume it's pretty confused.
For all of you worrying about delays (like if it says it's pushed back to September 24), I wouldn't worry much. UPS tracking is acting really funky these days, and I wouldn't put much stock into the delivery estimates it gives. It'll probably arrive tomorrow like the rest of us with launch day deliveries. UPS played the same kind of games with me a few years back with the iPhone 6s, where they randomly pushed the delivery day back on launch day only to find it delivered a few hours later.

This happened to me with the 7+ release. I vowed never again order from Apple. People that didn't get up early and ordering through AT&T and Best Buy were having more luck than me, and I woke up to place my order with Apple. I wasn't happy. I used AT&T last year with success, and I am using them again this year. Seems like the BB folks are doing well also.
There was someone who said the 2:10 flight is going faster than normal..
Customer Service Director to Pilot: “Hey uh.. our system is freaking everyone out. Gonna need you to speed it up.”
Pilot: “Uhhh.. idk if I can do tha-“
“JUST GET IT THERE DAMNIT” *hangs up*

Don't be surprised if it changes back to tomorrow. Sometimes these things are automated.
The planes inbound to Louisville are getting diverted a little bit to go around a storm, which probably caused the delay. They will still get there in time and be delivered tomorrow.
