If I was on a tighter budget, and I didn't want a 7+ or 8+ then yeah, I'd be holding out for the Xr. You get most of the features (improved camera software, A12, face ID) of the Xs and Xs Max, for $749 with 64GB which is very useable if you have everything on the cloud (photos, iMessage, music streaming) except for a few apps.

No idea when they next move will be, I'm just along for the ride.
Also, I almost got gold, but I recalled that some space grey iPhone X had issues with flaking color on the aides and that scratches could not be polished out of the SG vs Silver. So, I worried gold my wear down and can't be polished. Plus the silver with a light color reflective caseback would run cooler in the summer sunshine, so I stuck with silver/white again this year.
I never got silver in previous years (before X) because I didn't like those big white bezels surrounding the black screen, while a black bezel on the SG and black phones made the screen look bigger when watching a movie.
