After the login trick worked for me, I used the chat feature to let someone at Apple know what was going on. The specialist told me they were aware of the problem and working on a fix. The only other detail he would give me is that it's cookie related issue.

Maybe Apple decided that selling refurbished (not new) products might get them into trouble with Australian government agencies. Not worth the risk, really.

How so? They list as refurbished. They're not selling the same thing twice as new stock. How would this risk trouble with the Australian government?

This might be a wee bit off topic... But how long do ya think it'll be before we start seeing some retina MBP's in that section?

It could be anytime or it could be months away. It depends on what MBPRs are returned to Apple and have gone through the refurbishing process.

Same for me... and I'm in the US.

EDIT - this is he one that I have been eyeing and am now ready to pull the trigger:

http://store.apple.com/us/product/FD318LL/A?afid=p201|2223013&cid=AOS-US-AFF-FEED

It goes to the item but shows Out of Stock for me. Anyone else showing available for this one??
Yep, it shows fine:

When you think about it this doesn't matter either. Refurb stores are segregated by geography, and all use the same method of posting refurbs when they're available and removing them when they're not.

Do you think that a company has one server that they use for web pages?

no refurbs?

ok, time for an apology -- I thought you guys were all exaggerating/a little crazy when you said that there were NO refurbs in the entire Refurb section of the Apple store. Every time I saw this in the forum threads, I'd check and there
wouldn't be an issue -- I'd see one or two items greyed out (Ipod Classic must be a keeper), but other items were available.

Until today -- not a single item is available in the refurb store as of lunch time.

very mysterious -- all that grey. . . .

it's 2012 again ... same issue - aussie refurb store has been down since a week before the WWDC
