I have almost every Apple product out there and kind of getting tired of the Apple products being way to heavy because of the materials used: apple vision pro, airpods pro max, and macbook pro 14. Don't need a thinner MBP just need something lighter. I wish they would make something as light and compact as the 2 pound Macbook 12" with M1. That was the ideal form factor for me. The extra 1.5 pounds on MBP makes it hard to carry around with other equipment.

Awesome news. The Watch and the MacBook Pro are way too chunky. The lighter the better. Who wants them thinner and more powerful? Everyone who actually buys them.
Leave the fat and chunky tech market with quickly obsolete hardware to Dell and Android. They have that market locked down.

next macbook design is guaranteed to be thinner than current design with OLED change. just look at the new iPad teardowns to see how ridiculously thin the panel is.

iphone and watch? don't think so, unless they figure out how to make them less power hungry. all that space is battery.

“Gurman's sources tell him Apple is now focused on developing a significantly skinnier iPhone in time for the iPhone 17 line in 2025, corroborating a May report by The Information. According to the latter report, Apple is planning to launch an all-new thinner iPhone 17 model next year that will allegedly feature a "major redesign" akin to the iPhone X.”

I like the idea, but the first thought that jumps to mind is the iPhone 6 Plus bend-gate story. Apple can make iPhones thinner with new stacked battery design, rumoured already for iPhone 16. However, with iPhone screens going bigger at the same time, Apple will really need to come up with a sturdy light frame to support it, as people will still be sticking their phones in the back pockets of their tight trousers.

I got a smile reading that some people think current Macs are getting too heavy…

I keep a 2011 MBP 17” around to run old software on. (I swear it grows a little larger every week!) I remember when I got it, people couldn’t believe how thin and light it was!

My 2 cents on the iPhone: get rid of the camera bump by filling it with battery. How big of a bump will the new slim iPhones have?

Welp, get your MacBook Pro now!

(Wish Apple would focus their thin obsession on the Air line…and leave the Pro stuff, well Pro)
You can have it both, be super light, and still be Pro. The new iPad Pro M4 proved it CAN be done, and done properly.
Some in the comments want heavy and thick MBP because they equate it with good cooling and power, as if technological development were to stop in 2024.

I wonder how a webcam will fit there. back to 480p?

let's hope they drop the HDMI port on MacBook Pro. HDMI is anything but pro.

if you're ready to concede a thunderbolt 4 port for an useless HDMI one, this shouldn't be a product made for you.

Having an HDMI port does not mean taking away a Thunderbolt port. You realize there’s enough room on the machine for many many more ports, right?

I bought my first iPhone (15 Pro) since 6….and I must say, the heft is hefting. I know it’s lighter than the 14, but coming from a lighter smaller device (though not iPhone Mini small) it’s quite noticeable. It doesn’t really fit in any of my pockets, it’s always a little heavy in the hand. I’m not complaining as much as I’m saying how I’m experiencing the change. I’ll get used to it.

Ps My Android phone was a 4 year old Sony. I’ve charged the HECK out of that battery and…it’s…I haven’t noticed a change. Perhaps lower all over power capacity, but. None of that ABC (Apple Battery Complaining) I’m hearing from eh everyone who has an iPhone.

Apple is now focused on delivering the thinnest possible devices across its lineups without compromising on battery life or major new features.
...or on the camera bump.

The article state that viDeO eDitoRs will still get their chunky-boys-briefcase-looking MBP, but, for the rest of us these won't make sense, especially with the new M4 around the corner.

A slim 15 MBA with an M4 cpu, a cooler, pro speakers and screen will be a perfect allrounder for all the pros that are not doing viDeO eDitiNg, and it's very likely to outperform even a basic 16" M1/2 MBP config.

HDMI is anything but pro.
Apple’s logic is probably like: lets remove it from most devices so users will think it is a pro feature worth extra $$$. Hope they won’t remove it from next gen Apple TV, I am inclined to buy another one

Sure - you can have both. But Apple’s track record with Macs doesn’t support that reality.

How much can then shave from the lower part of the MBP if the HDMI port is still there?

I guess they could make the rounding sharper?

My guess is that the HDMI port will go, and they'll sell wifi 6e dongles for external monitors (like a fireTV). All the other devices currently connecting over wifi will use threads (all new devices have thread-specific antennas built in, but not used). It will effectively be a mini 'Apple TV' for all your external monitors, and they'll automatically connect like the iPad currently does. People who want a wired connection will be able to use a USB-C/Thunderbolt connection since almost all new monitors and TVs support them.
