Now where are the funny guys from the iPad Pro discussion who claimed that the iPad is too thin to run macOS when you really need them?
Yes, I like as thin as usefully possible. Much nicer for travelling. But I would go with a macOS version of the IPP as well

It absolutely does support it, you're just focusing on the last Intel generation which was indeed seriously flawed because of super hot Intel chips.

We can focus on any generation you like. PowerPC, Intel, Apple Silicon.

The example you provided is not a Mac. It is easy to make an iPad thin, because there’s no keyboard or active cooling and there’s only one port on the whole thing.

Can they make the camera system significantly thinner? Otherwise, it's just gonna be a very thick protruding system

It's just to make more money, require less material (aluminum, titanium) for the device and give it a higher price tag. Brilliant strategy, especially given the volumes Apple ships.

I’m glad about this. Really not happy with how thick and heavy things had been last few years. Thankfully they seem to be correcting their ways with lighter titanium, lighter iPad Pro etc. I don’t understand why people want their gadgets to be heavy.

Having an HDMI port does not mean taking away a Thunderbolt port. You realize there’s enough room on the machine for many many more ports, right?
I guess I do realise that any port must be connected to the motherboard, and this motherboard must have the bandwidth available for them, yes.

So it's not up to get physical space to put a port on the chassis. The data from this port must be accessible by the motherboard.

The HDMI port did remove a thunderbolt port, and this is a huge setback for power users.

I'll never use this HDMI port, I don't want to impose a SDI port either. Just give my access to the PCI and I'll use the tools I need.

Lol, not really. 14" and 16" are heavy, no way around it.
Making laptops thinner doesn't necessarily mean they'll be lighter.

They may have to reinforce the internals to stop them bending, which could end up making them heavier, balancing out the weight loss due to less casing.

The problem is not thickness but weight (the last 15'' Intel MBP was 1.6kg, which was increased to 2.1kg in 2021). Also, the notch is a problem... please remove the notch, no matter what.
The 2019 intel 15 was actually 1,85 kg, the succesor late 2019 intel 16 was 2.0 kg.

Gurman again, I'll believe it when I see it then. I really want that new iPad Pro though lol. But need a new Mac first.
I dunno… I’ve never used a case on any of my iPhones dating back to the 3GS. And I’ve never broken a screen or suffered any major damage. But that’s just me. I get that if you drop a thing made of glass and soft aluminum it may not fare well but I’ve never had that problem I guess.

What I DO dislike is how big and heavy iPhones have gotten. It’s like carrying a brick around especially with loose fitting clothes… so I would very enthusiastically welcome a thinner (thus lighter) iPhone.

I don't care much for the trend of making things so slim there are trade-offs, like poorer speakers, crappier webcams on Macs, crappier keyboards, smaller batteries, no space for ports on an iMac, etc.

I know people will defend it with the standard "I need a lighter iPad because I'm so incredibly weak that it makes my backpack too heavy to carry". 🤦‍♂️

Having said all that, the MacBook Pro is one device that *could* be made a smidge slimmer with few compromises. As it is, it's a beast of a computer that could easily have user removable storage... if Apple didn't want to lock us down and make things more expensive and have shorter usable lifespans, and people didn't defend such anti-consumer practices.

let's hope they drop the HDMI port on MacBook Pro. HDMI is anything but pro.

if you're ready to concede a thunderbolt 4 port for an useless HDMI one, this shouldn't be a product made for you.

"Pro" means able to get work done using what is available, not endlessly needing help from adaptors or the other guy needs to do it different. Not everyone can have a purse full of adaptors that they will use twice a year, and are full of dust when you need them.

what a moot point. if anyone need a RJ45 port, this device is not pro then.

100% agree. I can't see why people are upset by HDMI ports or SD card ports. People use those ports and don't want dongle hell.
