Im very displeased to see the MacBook line out with CoreDuo, certainly not because that it has sutch a powerfull cpu and costs so little, but for another reason, why?
Ok... if the Macbook uses the same cpu as the Pro series where does that leave us? Well it leaves us to a major upgrade of the Pro series, and my best guess whould be Merom (or what ever is the new 64bit laptop cpu called, yes im talking about theone that Intel prepares in August). So in other words the Pro series just became now are certainly not worth their cost, even worse when to think about that they will be upgraded before the end of summer when Merom is out. Heckwho would even buy the Pro series since the difference between them and MacBooks are in some cases more than 1000-1500 and their hardware differences are now dimished more than ever!

This whole situation (of the new coming of the MacBook series that surely identifies the upgrade of the pro series soon) is not something we havent encountered from Apple before, does anyone remember the rapid change between the iMacG5 (2nd version) with the new intel iMac! Well thats gonna happen once more u guys, be prepared.

Good point, because the PowerBooks and iBooks never shared the same processor at different speeds, did they?

I'm sure the MBPs will be upgraded at some point. That doesn't mean the built-in graphics, bigger screens, and better battery don't already mean they're better business systems.

How is it a disappointment that Apple released powerful, reasonably priced consumer laptops with CoreDuo chips in them?
Yes, I suppose it's a shame for those folks who bought the MBP already. But those folks knew the iBook was getting replaced soon enough, didn't they? 'Back in the day' of the G4, the iBook and PowerBook were so close it was painful, but that was mostly because there was nowhere else to go with the G4. Now, Apple is in a position to make a significant improvement to the MBP line in August at WWDC, which will create decent separation between the two laptop lines. Something we haven't seen in ages.

eh you can't please everyone. I honestly can't think of anything else apple could have squezed into the macbooks to make them better at this price point. And of course, there are still some whiners out there, what did you want? Steve jobs to hand deliver you one?

I've only followed Apple as a company since November, nor am I knowledgable about the realities of building a computer, so my insight into this matter is quite limited. But based on the logic that what Apple has done here makes little sense, I wonder if they didn't have different original intentions. Is it possible Apple intended to coordinate the role out of the new computer lines w/ the new Chips, but the product was ready far ahead of Intel's ability to provide the new chips? Is that something that can even happen (and still produce a system) in computer development?

The only reason I even suggest this is b/c of the original forcasting of having all Macs be equipped w/ Intel chips by the END of '06. Anyway, the intentions behind this strategy aren't immediately clear to me, but then again...I'm pretty thick.

If Apple uses a slower processor, people would complain. So Apple uses a faster processor, and people still complain.

I like the MacBooks. The only thing is that Apple needs to do a *major* design change like they did with the iMac. The MacBook kind of looks like a stretched out iBook. But I still like the design. Especially the black one.:)

apple is running a tight buisness

They are in it for the money.
Up until now they were milking the macbook pro for what it was worth, heck even Steve said "they are so bitchin' everybody wants one" and during that period they had great trouble selling the ibooks because everybody knew the macbook was comming.

Now they are going to sell macbooks like crazy. All the students are going to want one, all the girls in the need for a 1000 dollar mirror included. Maybe they will lose some sales from their pro line, but that shiney screen and the integrated graphics is going to keep all the designers, film editors and photographers from buying one.

And then in about three months time, they will bump the macbook pro to a dualcore duo and everybody is going to want one again.

I say apple has a very strong buisness strategy, considering the fact that they actually are in a "difficult transition" phase.

apple is doing great

Wow ....

Integrated Graphics vs. Graphics GPU

Standard IO vs. Pro IO (on 17)

Consumer Software Bundle vs. Pro Software Bundle.

Small Screens vs. Large Screen

Plastic vs. Paper

etc.

Nope, I don't see any differences either.

So you would preffer that the new macbook was not so good so that the "pro" would be better incomparison?

No ofcourse not, i realise once more that technology moves fast, but this time it moved unnaturally fast and the MacBookPro series just became a complete joke. Apple you shouldnt have the Pro series at so high prices in the first place, and now u are becoming even more irretating when u show up sutch low prices for the MacBooks! Not that i dislike the MB prices or specs, i believe they are most worth it but u just diminished the Pro series, and that shouldnt happen so fast!
Apple lower the MBPros prices, or they will go nowhere untill August!
Its a shame!

Doenst anyone see what im saying? Im not against MBs guys, grow up. They are the only thing worth what they offer right now by 100%!

I just think apple is right on with this one.
One year ago not everybody was so sure about where apple would be today.

Look at the features on the MacBooks. They're in line with the PowerBook G4 12" therefore I expect it to follow a similar trend to that of the 12" vs 15/17" PowerBooks.

Your thread title made it sound like you had a problem with the new MacBooks. I think that's what got people confused. Take a little more care naming your thread and people will be less likely to misunderstand you.

Wow. I honestly think the core duo at the same speed as the MBP is acceptable in these machines. A) They aren't available with nearly as much ram, B) They're far smaller, C) the MBP is just an overall better machine. I think Apple made an extremely good move with the MB.

I am pretty happy with todays release, I cant wait to get my hands on this thing the only people that seem to not like this release are the owners of 1.83 MBP's

And the 2.0 MBP users as well. With the release of the Macbook, they changed the speed of the "$2,499 2.0 MBP" to 2.16ghz, at no additional price increase. A couple of days ago, this was a $300 option.

If I were one of those with the custom 2.16ghz MBP (they paid $2,799 while it is now $2,500!), I would demand a refund of $300. I would have been very upset if I still had my MBP (traded it in for a 17" due to issues) and knew that I paid $2,500 for a 2.0 when I could have received a 2.16ghz at the same price.

I have a 1.83... but i remember when that was going to be a 1.67. Can you imagine if those actually shipped? Bought in January, then by May there has been 2 major upgrades for no extra cost... I would be pissed. I am a little bit miffed, but whever, I will trade this in August when the update the processor.

As for the Macbooks themselves... I think they are great. Nice job Apple. I am fine with my superious graphics card, screen size and Ram.

hmmmm...

Hello.

I fail to see your dissapointment. Anyone and everyone knows about the Merom coming, and a lot of people are just waiting for it to be put in the MBP's (or maybe dual Meroms??? ), me included. I wouldn't complain about that.

What I would complain about is the integrated graphics and the replacement for powerbook 12". What is the difference then in graphics card speeds between the new MB and the old PB? Not a lot unfortunately.

Was I the only one looking forward to a 12" MBP for my backpack?

A quick question, what is the difference in graphics capability with the new glossy girlish mirror screen (no prejudice from me I gather) to the old non-glare one?

a better place
I'm delighted they are using a great CPU and I dont mind the screen. It has to be so much better than the previous 12" & 14" dull screens...

Everything is crammed into it and the only thing that is a bit dodgy is the onboard graphics.

But I was comparing ultraportable laptops by other vendors with similar specs and the Apple still came in significantly cheaper (most of them had GMA950 too)... That's great and I'm sure sales will boom; regardless of onboard chip...

I know if I had to do some gaming of serious 3d work in apps like Motion then the macbook isnt the right choice, but as a 2D work tool for all your office apps and stuff like photoshop it's a cracking purchase for any one...

So apple is using the fastest chips currently available?

How dare they!

Next you'll be telling us we shouldn't buy 2006 cars because next year they might just release 2007 models.
