U are so narow minded, the effect that technology has on the world of course is positive, but what effect it has on your wallet is a different thing.
Be glad you weren't purchasing computers a few years ago.

Take my boss for example. He paid thousands for his 80386 system. But it was showing signs of age after a few months, so he decided to purchase the Intel 80386 OverDrive chip for $795! It gave him a huge 5% improvement in performance...if that.

Today computers are cheap. In almost every area costs have dramatically dropped in the past 10 years.

With Apple using Intel CPUs the changes will occur more quickly than before. The fact that Apple is keeping their consumer line updated is fantastic.

it reminds me when a friend of mine sold his used 4,100 dollar mac clone to us and mentioned it also had an aftermarket graphics accelerator card in it...all of 2 gigabytes for an additional 800 bucks...we got the 1996 era machine in 1999 for 500 bucks

computers just don't hold any value due to the very fast pace of improvement in the field

a dual processor laptop for $1099 is a great deal compared to just a few years ago, and even compared to just 12 months ago

Ordered mine the day of the announcement. black, 120 gb, 512 ram. (wish i knew about the hard drive accessibility)

Order Date
05/16/06
06:24 AM PST /8:24 central.

What time was the online store updated? I don't think I ordered too long after the announcement, 2 day shipping. It left china on may 18th at 10 pm. Arrived in Alaska at 1:13 pm (5/19) got to indianapolis at 11:57 PM (i'm not sure what time they're talking about for the different locations) from anchorage, ak. "initial shipment release" (from indy) 2 hours later. How long after the announcement did I order? I'm wondering if people who ordered after the announcement have already received theirs.

I do find it ironic that the new apple store is giving 1 macbook away each hour when people who've paid for one had to wait for them to come from china!

I'm also nervous about opening it. With all these negative posts, should I just send it back and wait out all the (alleged) issues?

Thanks for everybody's input!

EDIT: Realized, you can't return custom built orders, right? So open it and hope it doesn't have any issues?
