So I have been calling the Apple Store for about a week now in search of the Apple iPad Case. They finally got some in stock today and I rushed to the store. Upon trying to checkout, the Apple Clerk tells me that I cannot pay for it in cash. Say what?
This is the most ridiculous, outrageous and stupid thing I have ever heard. If it was for the iPhone, it would be understable but for a case?
You know, Apple has been ticking me off lately, with their absurd requests and if they keep on they are gonna lose me as a customer.
Who are they to dictate how and when I wish to pay for something, it is cash people.

I payed with cash for my apple case. Guess the store where I got it doesn't care about that policy. Did you escalate to a manager?

LOL
you know we live in the digital age when a store refuses paper money over digital money!!

That's just a misguided extrapolation of the iPad policy to prevent "scalping". Sad, really.

I for one have my unopened case (no, not for sale) because I've been digging the Saddleback leather pouch. It is one sweet case. The leather is already scuffed up on the outside, and it gives it some "character". I found the Apple case a bit to "blah".

I really doubt that "this" is the most outrageous and stupid thing you ever heard. Frankly, if I were Apple, I would probably be tempted to do the same. Think about it. Why worry about handling cash, having to take it to a bank, etc., when it can all be done without anyone touching the banknotes? It certainly lowers their expenses and streamlines their processes. Now I understand why this may be inconvenient for you. But really, it is not too big of a deal to pay with a credit card.

That is bizarre. Did you talk to the manager? I would have said fine give me an Apple gift card for the price of the case, then I would used that.

There goes the fanboys again, you people are like a freaking cult. It is not right, cash is cash and will always be cash. I have never heard of a company not accepting cash.
It is outrageous and you know what, when I called to ask if they had it in stock I was never told it was credit card only.
The whole problem is I do have credit cards but I didn't feellike using one, period.
You people can defend apple all you want but you know this is wrong. Most of you are all Apple's butt boys lol.

It's only because they are in short supply, just like the iPad itself. Limit 2 per customer, they sell on eBay for double the retail price. Blame the scalping resellers, Apple is just trying to make sure legit customers can get one when they finally come into stock...

Still, next time appeal to a manager and assure them that you are buying one for yourself, they will make an exception.

Most airlines don't accept cash on in-flight food anymore.

I bet you didn't ask either. You assumed, and left yourself wide open for disappointment.

...further eroding any reason for someone to sympathize with you.

Sure it's inconvenient for them not to accept cash, my point is that it's their choice. Surely they are losing business by doing so, but they seem to deem it acceptable loss. Deal with it.

All of what you say is true..... But what ever happened to the 2,000 year old policy of exchanging CASH for goods at stores?
Yes, it is Apple's Store and they can do whatever the hell they like, but it's just a damn case!
Cash is the universally-accepted method of paying for items face-to-face, so as a customer I think that there is a reasonable level of expectation to have that option available for a mundane item.

While I think it's odd that they didn't take cash, it's fine with me. I wish more places would just start taking electronic payments. Period. I don't like cash and wish it would go away. It just slows everything down, especially if you are behind the person digging for "Exact" change!

They no longer accept cash fr 2 reasons, know your stuff before you speak.
1. The flight attendants were pocketing the money.
2. It is not sanitary to handle food and beverages and handle cash.

Which none applies to Apple.

Anecdotal evidence at best. If you care to back any of that up, I might give it a little more weight. Given that the food is stored in sealed containers, I'm willing to bet #2 is a bunch of hot air.

How is paying with a credit card versus cash going to stop someone from re-selling it on ebay for double  Am i missing something?

I manage an airline, so I know what I'm talking about. Anything else?

If the same card has been used to buy multiple iPad cases they can refuse sale. Can't really do that with cash.

LOL sure you do. I know everything in the world ever, anything else? :eyeroll:

That's really stupid. I totally support the idea for the ipad but for the case?

Yes I do manage an airline, if you believe it or not that's your choice.

You said you never heard of companies that don't accept cash. miles01110 gave you an example. Either you could admit you've never heard of this policy from airlines or admit you were wrong. The reasons for their policy is unimportant.

EDIT: Your previous claim seems even more outrageous given your later claim that you manage an airline.

Yes I do manage an airline, if you believe it or not that's your choice.

You're not even making an argument other than "I'm mad at a policy I don't agree with." If you have anything substantial to add to your otherwise poorly-thought out rant, please do so quickly. I'm not even disagreeing with you. The policy is inconvenient, but it exists for a reason.

I

I have had cash refused by FedEx at some locations.
