All Apple Stores have at least one "real" register, used for cash and check transactions. In additional, some stores have cash drawers located throughout the store that can be accessed with the hand-held POS system. They type in how much cash you're paying with into the hand-held POS system, the drawer pops up, and they give you the change.

i realize i was incorrect and there were stairs headed downstairs, just not paying close enough attention

Never did I speak about the legality of the issue, I was saying that Apple is becoming riiculous with their policies. It is the way they want it and how they want it and instead we are the consumers who pay their salaries.
There is a valid reason behind this temporary policy, which directly affects you -- a consumer looking to buy an Apple product -- in a positive way. You act like they're just doing it to make your life miserable.

The only solution, as someone else said, would be for Apple to not launch any products until it's ready to do a simultaneous international launch.

No problem. Just giving you a heads up that if you pay with cash at some Apple stores, the guys holding the credit-card swipers can ring you out. You don't always have to go stand in front of a cash register.

BAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

As I see it, you've got two pretty simple choices:

1) you can pitch a fit about it on the internet and call people who don't share your opinion names

2) take your business (and your money) elsewhere

Which choice would seem to be more mature and also get you what you want (a case for your iPad)?

i know they used to send all cash customers to the 1 register in the store, years ago when i bought a powermac g5 and 20" cinema display and wanted to pay cash(long story) they sent me there, was kinda fun actually

Yeah, that's how it used to be at the store near me too. That line used to suck, especially if someone had a transaction like yours (big $$$) and Telecheck wants additional information before they'll honor the check.

Now that the handhelds are iPod-touch based, it's cool to see that Apple's making most of the functions that could only be performed at the register doable on the handhelds now (pay with cash, do a return w/o a receipt, pickup a repair, etc). :D

Maybe in SC it is a bitch fit, here where I live it is called consumer rights, if I feel that I was treated wrongly I will speak up.
I don't mind people not agreeing with me, what I mind is people who gets all offended and belittle me for not agreeing with their policies, because God forbit Apple does something wrong.

Wait are you serious, they wouldn't let you pay in cash? I just came from the UWS store (I live like 15 blocks away) and I bought the iPad apple case, and paid in cash. Something is weird, I think their employees need to be on the same page haha

Maybe the policy is to not allow thiagos to pay cash. :D

Did you really? You bought the Apple manufactured iPad case and paid cash? That is hut wrong I will be calling them.

Seems to me it isn't Apple he should be mad at but the greedy tossers ****ing it up by buying up all the stock to sell on eBay for profit.
If they didn't have the policy in the first place, my guess is this thread wouldn't exist because there would have been no cases in the first place......they'd be on eBay with a huge mark-up.
It sucks for the OP not using a credit card, life is cruel sometimes, but it carries on nonetheless.

Honestly, I don't see why people are getting bent out of shape about this.

If you want to pay cash, then just wait till the iPad is released internationally. Steve has stated that this policy will go away when the iPad's are released internationally.

Seems like a simple solution to me. This credit card only policy is not going to last forever.

Edit: As a fellow New Yorker, let me complain about the fact that the NYC buses don't accept dollar bills directly! That's insane and been going on for decades.

Yeah, I paid for the whole thing in cash. And yes at the UWS store, maybe you should call back and ask again? I'm not sure, but that's weird. I didn't see anyone else buying a case so I can't tell you if it was a single occurrence or what their policy is.

I just got a apple case for a friend of mine who gave me money to pick one up for him. Paid in cash at the Austin apple store .

quick, run home and post it on macforums

OOOOOOR you could report it to the BBB

Just called the store, spoke to a manager by the name of Jeremy.
they don't allow cash payments.

What the hell... then I honestly have no idea =/
I thought that would MAYBE be only applicable to the 5th ave. store since it gets so much traffic. Maybe I had a stupid employee?

Given the way the OP has handled himself here I would venture to guess there is more to this story and that the OP makes it a habit to act like a child when he doesn't get his way. While I do not agree with Apple's policy on their cases, I believe the OP has it coming.

If I were the OP then I would have attempted to use my credit card (or debit card) to buy the case after being told I could not use cash. Instead, the OP went back to his parent's basement to post a thread on MR where he has managed to insult a fair number of members because Apple hurt his feelings.

Two things could have been done here:
Use a credit card or use cash to buy a gift card then use that. It's clear to me the OP is not seeking resolution.

Chalk this up to cosmic karma.
