The s8 looks like every other generic slab android phone; iphone x has some character. Looks and beauty are subjective and not objective.

If that's what you call character, you really need to stop. That iphone design is a unsymmetrical mess. Hey let's drop in a hideous notch for so called character. Character is samsung's infinity displays that gorgeously slopes around the body for a true floating almost waterfallish look.

Now that character and symmetry. You prefer a ugly notch blocking out your display and making the phone overall ugly but shiny. And to defend it ...you state it has character. Excuses galore......:D

If that’s what you call beautiful you really need to stop. See how that works. The s8 looks like every other android phone out there without any character at all. The battle will rage all day long as to which phone is subjectively better, simply because better is subjective.

What you're missing is tha the "notch" is only Blocking what your dear samsung is blocking via software with the status bar.

And in the end, the iphone X managed to have the same size screen as the S8, in a less tall device. Let's face it, the S8 is a old school 5.5 inch phone that's narrow, because it's just as tall.

Both are 5.8in but X has the missing notch cut out area. In portrait, X notch height is taller than the status bar in S8, so effective viewing area is still less. X status display has less area too due to missing cutout.

In full screen mode X loses much bigger viewing area.

Can't agree more. usually iOS users just use the device not cry out to impose over Android at all. Android users can't wait to get you to switch.

My feeling is, use whichever device you like. It’s anecdotal, but I find so frequently that somewhat tech-savvy friends of mine are always busting my chops about using an iPhone instead of something else.

Was at a wedding on the weekend, an acquaintance who knows that I have a technical background and has seen me use an iPhone asks about the X. “You guys going to get one?” I reply “Yeah I’m planning on it”. He went off on how crap it is, how Apple is useless, nothing is exciting, bla bla. Then tells me he’s going to get a Pixel 2. My reply “Awesome. I think Google is doing a good job with those phones. I’d probably get a pixel if I wanted to change from iPhone”.

Couldn’t leave it at that though. He went on and on busting my chops about iPhone X.

Yet it outperforms even the latest Samsung phones. That has much to say about Android/Samsung’s offering of phones than iPhones.

Rubish. When you mean "Much" bigger, you actually mean 1-2 milimiter bigger...

Show me proff of that "much bigger", be cause I can't see it...

Watching full screen video you actually don't loose nothing because both phones will be at 16:9 with black bezels on each side

Until now I'd been an android user for about 8 years. Last iPhone was the 3gs. I do have a MacBook Pro, iPad Pro and Mac Pro so I'm comfortable with the Mac OS etc. I just preferred Android.

My Xperia was about to die so I picked up a Samsung S8. Very nice phone. The curved screen initially was very nice but became a pita when it came to screen protectors and you lost the right to the edge feeling as soon as a case was put on it. You needed both as it picked up marks quite easily.

It was fast, fairly smooth but news apps etc seemed a little jittery when pulling content of the web. It was a capable phone. Battery was ok, could get through the day with about 10-15% left.

For some reason I popped into the Apple Store and decided to give the 8+ a go.... 14 days return so it gave me a chance to compare both side by side and hand the iPhone back if it didn't impress. I really wasn't expecting it to be significantly better than the S8 which seemed to be a great phone (and still is).

After approximately 2 days of using the iPhone 8+, the S8 was subject to a sale contract with Envirofone and on it's was after 4 days.

Differences? Speed, battery, quality screen and very smooth IOS with all apps and not just a few. It also meant I didn't need to bother with workarounds for moving files, webpages and work stuff from phone to Mac. The only thing I miss is the always on screen, which was a nice feature.

The "To the edge" screen was nice out of a case but while it felt good in hand, it also didn't feel robust. The glass front/back felt thin and using the edge of the screen with a case and screen protector didn't feel good. Seemed a little bit of style over substance. Initially I couldn't understand why the X didn't go right to the edge the same way. I can see why now.

For me (my experience, ymmv) after several years of being away from iPhone, it felt more unified, hardware and software working together perfectly. It was like a VW Audi car door thump rather that a Ford hollow sound. We have one of each and both cars work great, just the VW Audi feels more refined.... it's all in the fine detail. The Ford has great tech but you know it ain't going to last as long.

The s8 has a chin. Chins are dated bro. Therefore iPhone X is better.

iPhone X screen ratio is 19.5:9, where the s8 is 18.5:9

The added ratio accommodates for the notch, the ears are extra screen. The notch isn’t talking away anything.

Haha yea right. The very thin upper and lower bezels are not dated and are definitely needed for video gaming. Your left and right body bezels on the iphone X look more dated and are the same as the iphone 8. Throw in that large ugly vertical camera bump on the back of the iphone X and you are even more dated. Dated can also mean something having less resolution, less ppi, less brightness...... so the iphone X display is dated as well. Dated is not using 4*4 MIMO 2048 QAM and limiting ya antennas on purpose to synchronize with another vendors weaker antennas. Dated is still using 3 gb ram like last years iPhones. Dated is using ip67 waterproof when iP68 is the better one. Dated is using the slow speed wireless charging format. Bro your iphone X is dated.

Many, many years ago, in that far away galaxy, I purchased my first Apple product... the first 128k Mac.

Since then I have moved through the various generations of Macs and added some other Apple products. All have performed as expected, none has ever needed repair and I am completely satisfied with the Apple Operating Systems Universe.

Buy your lesser imitations if that makes you happy. I will not hurry to join you.

Out of curiosity why the hatred of all things iPhone? Isn’t choice a good thing? All phones have trade offs. X has the notch to accommodate faceid, S8 has edge display to appear more edge to edge than it is. You chose the latter apparently. Great choice! But why care that others choose the X??

Because he’s paid by Samsung to go on Apple related forums and talk smack.

Why would Apple fans need to defend themselves? Apple decides what hardware improvements they want to make not the fans..hence ask Apple if you want an arguement.
