Lots of interesting points and it is mainly true about apple. I sold my Black Stainless Apple Watch, my 6s, my unopened apple TV in favor of a Note 8. It has been a huge adjustment and there definetly some pros and cons. I was not really involved in Apples Eco system (no cloud, no imessage, face time ocassionally). I do miss the simplicity of Apple for sure and some of their integrated features. The Samsung is more freelance and less cost intensive.
I mean why couldn't Apple not put a quick charger in the box like Samsung did?
The Samsung flagship was $960 and the Apple was $999 & $1149.

Funny thing is I even contemplated doing the Apple all over again I picked up an X and thought of buying the watch and airpods... ‍♂️‍♂️

Apple knows people will pay up for the dongles, extra cables, etc. I only purchased an 18W charger + USB Type C to Lightning Cable because I got the charger for $9 and the cable for $1 thanks to some Apple Rewards point saved up.

If I hadn't sold my original Note 8 for the iPhone X, I wouldn't even own the S9+ nor own the iPhone 8+. Apple can get away with exorbitant price points because people will happily pay $1000 for a phone.

If I had to use an iPhone, I would wait for the X to go on clearance and watch some companies dump them for like $600-$700.

Not spending 1k on just that. I’d just prefer to have one on the front. I had the s8 and didn’t really like it on the back.

What if Samsung just makes a bigger S9+ with a S-Pen and larger battery? No FP sensor underneath the screen? Will you still be going Note 9 or would you go back to Apple again?

Probably keep my X til they come out with a phone I like. Honestly they’re all overpriced junk. Every single one of them. None of these phones are worth $ 1000+

I have read many of your complaints on here and for the most part, you never seem to justify why you have these complaints about the iPhone X. If it’s that disappointing to you, why don’t you sell it and find a phone that’s either cheaper or another alternative if it brings you this much dissatisfaction.

If I was unhappy with a phone for various reasons, I wouldn’t complain about it on the Internet, I would find a phone that would meet my expectations and move on.

Apple hasn’t lost their touch. Keep in mind there’s only so much a iPhone can do. Most of the changes to the hardware are cosmetic and Apple is constantly updating its software and cameras
I don’t see Samsung or LG with any knockout differences in their phones lately
Even if Apple came out with a foldable iPhone, would that really be innovative
Point is it’s not easy to innovate

Why not go trade your X for a Pixel 2XL or iPhone 8+?

I have addressed my complaints several times. I even post a video of my pos X froze up. Wouldn’t do anything. I explained why I hated Face ID. Also do you know where I can sell this phone for $900? Cause that’s what I owe on it. I’m not selling it for $500 so I have to pull $400 out of my pocket just to get rid of it.

Once again I owe money on my X no one is gonna give $900 for it.

Yet, you keep buying this "overpriced junk".
I don’t keep buying nothen. I’ve only had 2 iPhones. The 7 which I loved. And now this X

Plenty of flip phones available, or pagers....both much cheaper than the 'overpriced junk' you refer to.
Yeah probably wouldn’t freeze up. Or wouldn’t have to make sure the screen is lined right up with your face to unlock.

Just no. We’re paying through the noses for these things, it is reasonable for us to expect as consumers that Apple get these things right. The X was in development for three years - so whether it’s an S year or not makes no difference.

Besides, 2017 was actually the first non-S year since 2014.

I understand. We are paying for a premium/luxury product and we should demand quality. I also understand that complicated products like smartphones will come with issues. That's why up until now I've only bought "S" year phones.

Also don't let them fool you. 2017 was an S year. The iphone 8 is technically riding a 4 year old design. Since the iPhone 6 came out, the 6S, the 7 and the 8 were all "S"s.

Yeah probably wouldn’t freeze up. Or wouldn’t have to make sure the screen is lined right up with your face to unlock.

Also, you did have a return period to use to dump the iPhone X. Typically, return periods are 14 days. That's sufficient enough time for a person to determine if they like a phone, in general. Apple had extended return periods because of the holiday period as well.

Phones are allowed to freeze up and hiccup. No phone is 100% stable 24/7 from the time it is turned on until its last legs. iOS 11 is a crappy OS update anyways. You beta tested a new form factor Apple will use going forward. Just like those who had their phones bend, early adopters will get short end of the stick. The Xbox 360 owners endured red ring of death early on. Ok, products are supposed to work and shouldn't need warranty service, but not everything shows up during QC testing.

To be fair, nobody forced you to finance a $1000 phone. I tried out the phone and didn't like the price for what it did, thus I exercised my return period rights. I ended up with the 8+, something pretty much internally similar to the X. Form factor isn't the same, but I get better battery life and more screen real estate.

The market rate is not $500 for the iPhone X. If you have a 256gb model, you might be able to get like $1000 for it and walk away with breaking even on a Swappa or eBay.

Look, either you use the iPhone X or get rid of it. It's your call there. If I could, I would trade my iPhone 8+ for your iPhone X right now.

Probably why the 8 is such a good phone.

For the price, it should be a great phone. Not just "good" or "decent." The iPhone 8 is not a good phone, at least imo. It's a decent phone.

You get a great processor, but a lot of underwhelming specs: 750p display? Pass. 2gb RAM? Pass again. Huge battery life disparity between that and the 8+? Pass.

Apple knows it can sell millions of mediocre/decent phones (7,8) because there is a huge market for smaller screen devices and some people do not want to pay the highest end price ($1000) for the X. They can use psychological pricing and put things side by side to convince people they're saving $ by going with the 8 vs the X. "Oh, I am getting fast charging and wireless charing with the same processor?" "No need to pay for the X." It works the other way too because people will see "oh, the X is so much more nicer in the hands, looks sleeker, and has a better display."

But for $600 +, I want the iPhone to include an OLED display, FaceID, no home button, the X form factor, etc. But wants and realistic expectations aren't the same.

It’s a lower price than the X so would likely be my upgrade this year and fingers crossed the price comes down further. I’m not bothered about OLED, faceID and quite like the older look so it works for me. I may even keep my 6S and extra year if it’s still as good as it is now.

You replaced the battery? If you want TouchID, you have no choice but to stick with an older model even if you buy the 8. In Europe or Canada, I wouldn't even dream about buying one of the expensive 2018 or 2017 devices. I would go with the OnePlus 5T because those are reasonably priced and give you performance. The X is like $1300 CAD, which is absurd.

I am even a little bit sick about paying $677 for my Galaxy S9+. I am having screen issues with mine. If my 2nd replacement has the same issues, back to my 8+ for me until I find the right android device to go to.

If Apple overhauled its UI, changed the notification system, added split-screen multi-tasking, added PIP mode? I would stay with iOS because it simply works better than Android.

I cannot wait for WWDC to see how iOS 12 progresses because that might be a time to explore buying an iPhone X on clearance or refurbished off eBay in the fall. People would love to ditch 1 year old phones just like that. It works great for those looking to purchase a 1 year old model because Apple has a ton of those folks.

When I picked up my old X for the first time, I saw many people happily purchasing 8s and 8+s because they want a high quality device without paying $1000.

Is the iPhone X premium? Yes. Is it a luxury Product? No, it’s a smart phone that has The primary functionality as other smart phones do.

Technically, if you use the iPhone 6/6S/7/8 as a metric, they are all incremental builds over the years, Apple is usually very conservative and they ration their features slowly over the years with the iPhone.

I wish Apple didn't play the game because their products become diluted. I understand Samsung needed a radically different product between the S5 to S7 to get it right, but they were more aggressive than Apple is. It shouldn't take till the iPhone 7/7+ to offer water resistance. It shouldn't take till the iPhone X for a screen resolution bump (minimal) over the 8+. It shouldn't take till the iPhone 2018 models to see 4gb RAM.

That’s Apple’s method of operation as a whole. Look throughout the entire product line up, not just the iPhone. They are very similar with rationing their features even for the Apple Watch for example using the same casing for three years, and incrementally building smaller features into the Apple Watch. Apple is notorious for rationing features both software and hardware.

No my battery is pretty good 18 months on. The iPhone prices have got silly here so I have lost interest chasing the latest and greatest. I really don’t know what i’ll do when my contract is up in September? I’m starting to ask if I need another iPhone that does exactly the same thing as the iPhone I own now? It’s starting to make less sense upgrading every couple of years and over the past week I’m beginning to think i’ll just upgrade my sim contract only.

THIS!!!
Don't return the phone that you have total contempt for.
Cry about it on an online forum.

When you buy them from at&t and have an issue with them you have to go through Apple to replace them. AT&T will not take them back. My first X came in and had issues noticed within 10 mins of having it. I called at&t they said they had sign a deal with Apple saying customers had to go through Apple for anything. So I got a new X the next day from Apple. The Imei didn’t match the box so no I didn’t have 14 days.

That story doesn't add up. AT&T would have to give you a refund if you were sold a defective product and needed a return. Your "problem" doesn't start and stop at AT&T. You have the BBB, Apple Corporate, state consumer protection agencies, etc.

You may have not done your due diligence, so you're here posting your frustrations.

Dude I called at&t even corporate and Apple. Even had a 3 way call with at&t and Apple. There was no getting around it, AT&T said they could only do a return within the 14 days if there was nothen wrong with the iPhone or iPhones. Since I had issues with more then one. Call AT&T and ask them. They will tell you the same thing. Trust me I would’ve rather went to the store and picked up a brand new iPhone vs waiting for one and wasting gas driving to fedex to drop the old one off. I actually did go to AT&T store. Said nothen they could do.

So you didn't even try contacting your financial institution to get their assistance? You didn't contact the company that issued the payment plan if it wasn't AT&T?
