No lag for me on my 7 Plus so definitely not something introduced deliberatly, sorry to burst the conspiracy bubble on this one!

Can we close this thread already?

iPhone 8 has same delay as the 7. Obviously it does, as the delay is there due to a lack of iOS 11 optimization. Will be fixed soon, but I’m sure that won’t stop you from fabricating some other “theory.”

Wow. So it appears the 8 has the same delay as the 7 with the home button. So us iPhone 7 users on 10.3.3 have a faster performing home button than the 8.

Weird design change to the iOS. I wonder if they will change it back. I guess OP might be on to something. I suppose the X will have no delay because it can't delay your swipe up!

Maybe they did make it a bit slower to make it easier to enter multi tasking for the whiny people who don't double tap the button twice fast enough and complained about the animation jumping. I use reduce motion so I never see the animation jumping. Just nice smooth instant fades.

I'm still torn. I want some of the iOS 11 features but I don't want to change the feel of my device or slow it down more. Think I'll be staying on 10.3.3 unless they change back the home button but I'm betting they probably won't.

I don't think it's optimization at this point. Seems to be a timing choice since the 8 has this delay as well. They wouldn't let their newest and fastest flagship have a weird bug like this at launch.

No. Since iPhone 8 and iPhone 7 are running the exact same software, that is what’s causing the delay.

This is not a design choice. If you’ve used iOS for some time, you’ll know that major OS released always have some optimization issues when launched. iOS 11 just seems to have more than usual.

Did you ever use iOS 10.0.1? It had an even more significant delay when pressing the home button on the 7 and 7 plus which wasn’t fixed until 10.2 or 10.3.

but conspiracy theories are more fun than facts! and who wants to live in the real world (considering the state it's in)...

They don't even present as theories but as facts the blind apple defender isheep can't see. Anyone who abused someone like that in this thread should a) be ashamed and b) be suspended.

Set your clocks though because it won't be long before the goalposts get moved.

I decided to upgrade my iPhone 7 128GB today since there seems not to be any major catastrophe looming based on first reaction on the forum. :)
I backed up to iTunes before and did the upgrade via iTunes.
First impressions: very smooth upgrade. Actually the home button and native apps seem snappier to me than under 10.3.3. Very quick transitions from home screen to apps and back. I don't like the calculator app layout (looks like a toy), but besides that all fine here.

I am holding back for now on watchOS 4 as I have a Series 0 and I am not sure how this will affect its operation.

Had my iPhone 7 since launch. Yes there was a weird hesitation in the animation if you had them on in the early days of iOS 10 but the button always responded instantly. I've always used reduce motion so I only saw that when I turned off reduce motion.

So the iPhone 7 and 8 are running the exact same software? I find that hard to believe if they have different cpu's. I'd think they would need to change up some stuff to optimize all of those extra cores.

Anyways I don't want to argue. I just hope it does get "fixed" or changed back!

Oh, sorry to come across as argumentative, just making statements. And yes, I see what you are saying with the different software, but Apple has the same firmware code for many devices, which is why the HomePod firmware leak disclosed all of that info about the iPhones, Apple TV and Apple Watch.

This whole thread is nothing more than a discussion of first world problems. It was entertaining, now it's just boring. Have fun folks.

Where are all the people screaming "forced obsolescence and the 8 will prove it" now?
Nope. Read my original post again. I have said that Apple wants to deem Home button as obsolete technology. This has been done just to show iPhone X is faster. In my original post, I did not even mention iPhone 8. My first post is unedited btw.

iPhone 8 is Apple's bas**** child born to appease the masses because they can't produce iPhone X soon enough in adequate quantities.

Than why make iPhone 8 with a home button? If what you say is true, then 8 would not have a home button in the first place.

Now they are going to say the delay on the 8 is there to get people to buy the X.

Apple had no time because they were busy over-engineering their saucer shaped campus.
iPhone 8 is just a stop gap product and next year they go full FaceID for all the phones.
