Everybody has a bias, it's just that some have a bias you agree with and some have a bias you don't agree with. However, I tend to believe what I've read as nobody would really exaggerate statements like that.
TouchID unlocks in my pocket. FaceID, I need to stare at my phone swipe it and then wait a quarter second before it unlocks. It also has problems if you keep it on the table and need to unlock the phone. When in a meeting, it's not as conspicuous as TouchID. I need to take it out and stare at it.

I will try out my unit and see how it is. If it's annoying, I am returning it. Gen 2 FaceID will be awesome and I am not paying 1.2k for a beta test of FaceID.

Have you not gathered enough information from previews, reviews and forum posts to determine this?
Some reviewers are saying it's a huge difference. Some are saying it's not.

A touch screen phone that unlocks in your pocket is very, very useful. The Note does that. You should buy it.
Yes indeed because when I look at my phone it's already unlocked. How cool is that!

Some reviewers are saying it's a huge difference. Some are saying it's not.

The ones that are saying it’s huge are clearly correct.

Also, I saw an ad tonight where Google maintain that you will run out of space on an iPhone and that the Pixel takes the very best photos. Maybe you should buy that.

The bolder also applies to Touch ID if it doesn’t register your fingerprint. But reviews are stating using a phone with faceid is faster than Touch ID..,think Apple Pay.

Which is why it would have been better if both of them were there. I think both complement each other. When your fingers are wet and greasy, FaceID is better. If you just want a quick painless had inconspicuous unlock TouchID is better. If your phone is lying flat on a surface TouchID is better. When you have your hands full FaceID is better. Not one of them is definitively better in all aspects than the other.

Which reviews say it's faster than TouchID? Post the links here. The consensus seemed to be it's faster than TouchID Gen 1 but not as good as Gen 2.

Hi guy! Any news? Will it be fixed? And does iPhone 8 have delay? Or it only for iPhone 7?
Should I post a video with lag? I have 2 iPhone 7 with ios 11 and 10.

As to whether it will be fixed I am split on this. Business logic suggests it won’t be fixed to push users to the X. Feedback entry not being closed suggests Apple is considering a fix. On iOS 10 the home button issue was sorted on iOS 10.3 so it’s possible 11.3 may sort it out.

The iPhone 8 also has the delay. The lag exists and has been proven. No point posting videos for those with their head stuck in the sand as far as Apple goes.

Touch ID is gone and not coming back. From a technology perspective I don’t care as long as it works better in the aggregate. Makes the note look comical.

You can read the MR news. But think Apple Pay buying a drink after a full sweaty workout, fast. In reality it doesn’t matter what anyone says, you have your own opinion regardless. Whether or not the iPhone X (and some of us got the right name prerelease commentary and sniping) is a runaway success or runaway success + 1 is irrelevant to Apple.

December 15. The only issues which I have a problem with is the display size and FaceID which some have reported to be as annoying as Samsung iris scanner . I may even have to return it for that. I played with my ancient iPhone 6 keyboard and I keep hitting the wrong buttons. It feels like a toy and it's causing eye strain on the apps. It's like I am free of a headache when I turn to the Plus display after using the 4.7 iPhone. The X has a taller screen and slightly more width so I don't know the effect it will have on my eyes. If FaceID has problems reading through my high power glasses like Samsung iris scanner it's going back as well. Even without glasses you have to swipe it, wait for a quarter of a second to see the home screen. I can unlock any phone with a fps 3 times from the time I take it out of my pocket and look at the screen. TouchID obliterates FaceID in speed.
When does your X arrive? I give you an hour at most after that, before you start complaining about the most irrelevant minutiae.
He didn't even need an hour.

Except if you tilt it a few degrees and it takes on the usual OLED blue caste

Same as the eight really, save for OIS and a better f stop on the secondary rear camera. Nice, but nothing to shout about.

Also, I read that it charges slowly

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/iphone-x-charging-slow.2084053/

And that it may have hair or dust in that camera

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/freakin-hair-on-camera-lens-iphone-x.2083977/
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/dust-speck-inside-the-iphone-x-camera-lens.2084349/

People posted about it on the internet, so it must be true for every single owner of that phone.

Hopefully you can still enjoy it though, with it’s necessary delay to get to multitasking and it’s slower “hold and press x” way of removing apps from multitasking (as opposed to just swiping away).

Or maybe you should just get a Note.
Okay feenician you win. I actually went to take a look at the phone today. Phone's screen wasn't really all that better than the 7 Plus I have right now. Seemed kinda underwhelming. The blue tint is indeed there at the slightest shift and overall I came away unimpressed.

Really my 6s exhibits no color shifting at all when viewed from the sides.
Look at it with the screen flat in front of your eyes. Anyway this debate is meaningless as in the case of the X the slightest shift tints it up. The below pic is taken by me with a slight shift. In real life the entire bottom half tints blue if I turn it sideways or tilt it some more. It's just better than the Pixel but not by much.

Not even with the screen flat. However my take in all of this if one seeks imperfection in life they will find it.

I will find out about the FaceID thing when I get my phone. Many reviews say the iris scanner on the Note 8 works perfectly yet I know thats not true. I think FaceID will be between Gen 1 and Gen 2 TouchID in speed but just wont be as responsive as the fps . I have seen hands on videos and there is a quarter second lag which is not there with TouchID which is expected as its a mature upgrade.
I dont really find FaceID as an upgrade though after seeing it on videos.. More of a means to get to a bezelless display with ease rather than invest a ton of money to integrate a fps into the display which would eliminate the need for a notch and make everything full screen. Its a sidegrade and I may be willing to bear with it till we get a proper solution but its definitely regressing in certain areas like inconspicousness and when lying flat on the table, when in extremely bright sunlight at the beach etc.

I actually disregarded the Note 8 and its oustanding hardware just because of biometrics. I just cant be bothered dealing with annoyances when unlocking the phone which I do 100 times a day and it needs to be seamless with no lag.

Seems that one more year for iPhone 6s Plus and my precious headphone jack, removed by “courage” and the lack of preservation.

Face ID is cool but first gen, iPhone 5s. Hehe.

OLED panel looks great on paper.

Bezeless design. Just hate it. Error magnet and make the phone hard to hold without touching stuff. Hard to press bottom bar icons for sure.

Way too expensive. $1830 in AUD for 256GB.

It will be $1100(excluding cases, screen protectors and wireless charging) for the 6.4 model next year! And that’s just the 64GB model! Don’t forget about that inevitable iPhone Pro compatible with Apple Pencil in the future to compete with the Note. $1300 base excluding the Pencil

Lol I could build a gaming desktop running a 1070Ti in that price. what the hell has happened to the smartphone market.

No one knows. Apple is so desperately trying to squeeze every single bit they can to being even more bloated. Bad Apple.

Australian customers will pay 20% more thab American customers, which is even crazier. My computer is 45% cheaper than this X and do way more than X can do. This is insane.

And gesture based thing will be much slower than button to switch between apps, and prone to error.

When I played with it I immediately learnt the gestures. In fact they seemed to come to me naturally even more than the home button. The display is too small though, didn't like that. Effectively I think its a 5.1 inch screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio

I think I will play with the phone and return it within my return window. Want to see how FaceID works and how the display looks outside in sunlight. Bright sunlight at the beach and its near impossible to see anything on my LCD iPhone. I definitely didnt get the feeling it was worth $1200 though. Its nice but not $300 nice. I found the Note 8 display on Basic screen mode wowed me more than the iPhone X did. That display just had more punch to it and looked awesome. First glance on the iPhone X and my first thought was ,this looks exactly like my current iPhone.

It‘s 0.5 sec and it waits in case you double-press it for a smoother Multitasking animation...so that‘s not a bug if you ask me.

Surely, one user experience is not representative at all. However, Apple is surely doubling down the price in an attempt to earn way more than they even deserve.

Thats true. The store I visited, there were like 2-4 people at the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus counter. There was a crowd around the X. Sadly I think the X is going to end up a runaway success and $1200 for the Plus next year is a given. I really dont understand why the 8 exists. We have to choose between a bezelled monstrosity and an overpriced smaller phone.

iOS hasn’t been smooth since 6.1.2. iOS 7 and beyond destroyed efficiency and Apple tried to compensate with horsepower instead of optimization. That’s exactly the path Android chose. Now micro-stutters and lag are very common. My 6/7/iPad Air/Air 2/Pro 9.7/Pro 10.5 all have these micro stutters that simply never existed on iOS 6.1.2 on an iPhone 5. Which was jailbroken and had sensible functionality improvements still unmatched. Sad.

iPad Pro 12.9 2017 didn’t have any stuttering on iOS 10. iOS 11 does remind me of Android Lollipop though.
