It's a device which people use to make money (aka work). Do the math, you make $1k per month with this device, it's two months until it pays off an creates a profit. $500... 4 months and so on.

Problem is people want the best, even if they don't need it and then complain.

Same for the Vesa mount which isn't priced that badly. Sure you can find one for under $100, but then the screen wobbles around whenever you touch it (or the desk for that matter). Looking at high quality mounts that are actually stable, you're at $500+ from other manufacturers. You can find cheap microphone mounts for $50 and really stable ones for $300. You can buy a telescope mount for $1k to $1.5k and have issues in windy conditions or you can put down $10k+ and not have an issue. Same for the Apple XDR display for $5k/$6k and people complain about the price. Why not just buy that $35k Sony display instead that has worse specs?

Apple is targeting the pro market with this, for professionals making money with it. If that makes sense or not is another story, but that's what it is. Don't like it? Plenty of alternatives out there from Apple or other manufacturers.

Again, sticking to Apples terminology, fact is some people are not as pro as they think they are and therefore don't need their pro gear, even if they want it. Just don't buy it, problem solved. :)
Agree, I’m. I’m buying because I don’t need it to make money even though I use it a lot.

For 11” iPad Pro 1tb (to get 16gb ram)
WiFi+cellular
Applecare

Just because you have lost your mind doesn’t mean I have...seriously who would pay that price?

US dollars? Apple UK shows me £1678 inc tax for that spec. I wouldn't want a giant (in my eyes) iPad at half that price but I don't find it shocking for an Apple product.

If most people don’t consider android as a viable alternative, then it isn’t IMO
It is entirely possible for most people to be poorly informed. Now, that brings an interesting discussion, if something is considered by most, even incorrectly, as being inferior, then is it? I suppose it is, as it simply comes down to almost everything is subjective. I think back to the failure of the Commodore Amiga... obviously the superior hardware, but not considered a viable alternative to PC compatibles or even early Macintosh computers, so it failed. Not because it was worse, but because people thought it was.

That’s my thinking.

I get what the OP is saying...these tablets are now being priced like full laptops.

More like they're priced like MacBooks now (well since 2018).

For me, I've usually bought Windows laptops for $600-800 so the iPads (64GB wifi $699/cellular $829) have always been laptop-priced to me. Back then, they had much slower performance and tiny storage compared to Intel-based laptops at that time.

Then I am happy for you... I had the 10.5 Pro years ago and loved it dearly, I still remember buying the Pencil for it and loading up Procreate the first time on the 10.5, just a whole new world. I sold it years ago but I know for a fact it holds up, for 90% of users it's still more than enough.
So after seeing this ridiculous price I went back to see if last years model was available and saw that it wasn’t, knowing they always do that though, guess I’ll wait till they become available on the refurbished page...it’s all good

It'll make more sense once (or if) the iPad OS and Mac OS finally merge, drastically increasing iPad's capabilities.

Right now, iPad Pro is a high-end tablet with powerful laptop hardware and crippled OS. iPad Pro's hardware is certainly worth the money though, but its software is not.

Apple needs to make it more than an oversized iPhone and I really hope it finally happens within a year or so.

I agree with what you say, this was for me and how I think..I do have to have the cellular model so that’s adds as well...but as Susie Orman always says there’s a big difference between needing something and wanting something...to many wants over needs make you poor...I added that part lol...I’m going to 3 years at least and probably will keep getting refurbished like this one I have and had zero problems with but saved lots.

Sure but that's why I drive a 12-year old vehicle and use an iPhone SE2. I upgraded PCs recently due to Windows 7 EOL but before that, I was using 5+ year old PCs at home on the rare occasions I needed a desktop OS.

iPads are what I choose to indulge on. Granted, I'm expecting at least 3 years useful life else I wouldn't be comfortable spending $2K on it. No traveling due to COVID also helped bolster the tech fund.

:D

Thats actually a really good point... Tablets are iPads like tissues are Kleenex.

I will argue people are missing out though, for instance, if you're a graphic artist you can run a full copy of Krita on Android for free and when paired with the S7 and it's high refresh/low latency screen, it's a very very enjoyable experience.

But you can't argue results, the iPad is the alpha.

Wait till the new 3500.00 MacBooks arrive! You will gladly pay 2000.00 for an iPad

Apple sold over 50 million iPads in 2020. I will bet anyone they sell more in 2021 (subject to chip shortage lol). Who wouldn't raise the price?

Not according to them...also most were under $1000 so top end ones piggy back profit like no tomorrow for them as less than 5% even need them

Yes, and why is this a surprise?

There are many, many things that tablets can do that laptops cannot. There are many, many things that laptops can do that tablets cannot. It's a question of software and logistics.

Moreover, it's a question of choice, not sanity.

It depends on what use the iPad for. If the work value is few hundreds grands then it’s easy peasy choice.
I think Apple is just trying to fulfill the special needs for very limited people here.

Since getting my 2018 12.9 IPP I have not touched my laptop.

Seeing as though I had not been happy with with any PC/Mac laptop offerings since 2015, I wan continually upgrading those and finding new issues with each unit.

In reality, I have saved more with this device by holding and being happy. Yes, it’s a steep price to pay, but this is my MAIN device.

Take a look at the new Vaio Z laptop. That darn thing is pushing over 4k!

My last laptop was the Lenovo Carbon. Paid over 2k for that as well…

A 13” MacBook Air with 16GB and 1TB and AppleCare is $1898.
it has no cellular
no touchscreen
wont work with an Apple Pencil even if you had one.

Buy the one that works best for you!

The point to take home is that the difference between these machines is form factor, OS, and software, and that you should get the one that meets your needs, since they both kick the butt out of wintel on specs.
