No cure sadly. I suffer from it. I've been using meditation techniques to deal with it. Some people just go crazy over the sound, now it's just background in my mind. Still not perfect. There are days when its so loud I just have to close my eyes and try to sleep for a bit.

It should be noted that while active noise cancellation is great for mitigating nuisance noise (airline cabin, traffic, etc.), active noise cancellation is not a proper substitute for actual hearing protection, as mentioned in the article. (Don't take my word for it, do your own research.) This is especially important for those suffering from tinnitus, as exposure to sudden loud noises can worsen the condition.

If you go to the doctor right away, there's a good chance it can be helped. Depending on what causes it, of course.

F the headphones, that’s why. But Apple cannot say that since it is a major source of their revenue.

And that’s coming from one who used to make music back in the days and have finally stopped doing it

I have had tinnitus in my left ear for about 20 years and have learned to live with it. Even in my job as a sound engineer it doesn't bother or affect me, or rather... TO THE DEVIL WITH IT :)

I have mild tinnitus, most times I just get on with things but it’s troublesome. I think it has a lot to do with dehydration of the inner ear. I find that coffee in excess brings it on too. I always leave the radio on to alleviate it.
If you feel coffee does it it is better to jump off to tea asap. Or any of those existing coffee alternatives if you are there for this specific “roasty” flavor. Had to stop drinking it but for the other type of reasons

Maybe they should also look at what EyeSafe is all about so they can fix their displays.
They won’t, see another news story here – these guys are planning to put OLED in MacBook Pro in 2026.

Right now there is a semi-solution of putting matte screen protector and using device at full brightness all the time and not using it during nighttime at all

The apple airpods pro 2 actually gave me worse Tinnitus, so I stopped using them and went over to Sony. No (edit - Less) issues now, so I hope this is sorted in the next Gen.

This has been my experience. Woke up with a modulating ring in my ear one morning. Took me weeks to figure out my AirPods were triggering it. I stopped using them for a couple months and it went away. Gradually, I started using the Airpods again and the ringing came right back. I love my airpods but i love my ears more

I have tinnitus and the best thing to do is not mask it or try to avoid it because that just makes it louder

If you turn the volume down around you, the tinnitus gets quieter. Then when you’re listening to music or in a louder environment you can’t hear it

Could you use them but at a lower volume? Or was it volume independent?

In my experience using noise to mask it makes it worse over time because it gets louder to match the volume around you

My solution is give myself some time where it’s very quiet around me, which makes the tinnitus quieter

Shame most of you in here haven't been protecting your hearing.

lol this makes no sense. if you had tinnitus it doesn't just suddenly vanish from switching earphones.

Also on MacRumours:

* People can taste their laptops through their fingers
* They get non-heat burns from watches
* They are allergic to wifi
* They cannot use Apple displays because of PWM

There may be some level of truth in some of those, I'm not knocking anyone. I'm just saying that there's certainly a level of hypochondria there too.

It is a pain... I have it. I seem to tune it out most of the time, but now that I've thought of it it's very irritating. It runs in my family, and I've had it since I was about 25. It's got worse, but whether I feel upset by it comes and goes. I still have great hearing, oddly, despite its ever presence.

So apple is constantly listening to your environment? New Nick name for Tim, big brother.
Paranoid much? A decibel meter is not quite the dystopian surveillance you fear.

But fear is a man's best friend. I'll tell you who is listening and watching everything you do: law enforcement, government, private companys' CCTV, surveillance cameras inside and out of banks, hospitals, schools, jewelry stores, your local café and many many more. Do you really think the NSA stopped monitoring Americans' phones when Eric Snowden blew the whistle? Of course you don't. Because you're not stupid.

Ironically, the loudest sounds my ears have ever been subjected to are Apple's own devices bugging out through my AirPods. (Either by randomly turning the volume all the way up or "popping".)

I should of said 'less' rather than 'no', but it still remains the (subjective) case that I had much worse Tinitus with the Airpods.

So apple is using their customers as guinea pigs without their consent?
No. People that want to provide data make the choice. I've been providing data to them for years in an effort to help long term research.

I've had tinnitus for more than 30 years, most likely due to a meningioma in my brain. About a minute before I have a seizure the tinnitus fades away. Good living without the endless buzz for a few moments, but not so good knowing a seizure is upcoming.
