Well in this case it causes greater inconvenience because it adds delays to changing the password if you are away from a significant/trusted location and even those locations may be effected depending on your settings.

Unless the process is Apple instigated in which case they may be able to bypass them. Thats the theory I am running with until there is any other evidence ie it is related to backend changes in preparation for the switch to Apple Account

Initially thought it was a scam or privacy invasion. Here in the US about 10pm happened to me on all my devices but not other family members. Had to go thru th steps of creating new passwords for each device and 2-factor id. Hopefully it's good for awhile.

I got disconnected, and when I had to reset everything, it seems that Apple deactivated my Advanced Data Protection. I had Advanced Data Protection on since day one and had never touched it. The strange thing is that when I click on it to activate it, the next dialogue shows it as activated.

Happened to me (UK), it was strange and worried a scam but it would have been quite sophisticated as it linked up to settings.

My Apple ID is one of the old MobileMe ("@me.com") addresses. Wondering if it is something to do with this as my partner and other family members had no issue, but had iCloud accounts created much later on.

Can anyone else confirm if their affected Apple ID is a @me.com address?
Happened to my me.com account

I dont think there is anything sinister there. I see this type of stuff with other security features where the status takes a while to update.

Mine is not a Mac.com just a regular third party email account with a .iCloud backup. Got a notification that my password was ready to reset and I had not requested it. Thought it was a scam but it came from the same short code my verification codes come from

Yep, both my hubbie and I were hit starting around 8 last night. So sad, I loved that password.

I don't know because I'm not an expert, but it's been like that for hours and there's nothing I can do about it. It's like that in all of my devices and I can't activate it. This happened right after I got disconnected from my Apple ID

Earlier I had a dubious encounter with the ADP interface in macOS. I wanted to check my Recovery Key status and was asked for my Apple ID password. Fair enough, except the dialogue crashed before I could oblige and, upon reopening, I was in. Without ever completing the sign-in. Something is rotten at Apple.

I got logged out and had to reset my password around 9:00 e.s.t.. I was logged out again (no password reset) around 10:30 last night and again this morning around 9:00. The first message I received this morning said a new device (my iPad) was detected, then I had to log back in on my phone. No one else on my Family Share account has had this problem. I have a ‘me.com’ email.

Yes, it did happen to me and I thought it was my fault. I've been forced to reset my Apple ID since it is the same as Amazon, and the password confusion (different ones), has caused me trouble in the past, but now I know at least this time, it wasn't my fault. 😀

Apple is working on iOS18...prepare to have some kind of issues from now on till late June

Where is the logic in this point? Apple has worked on iOS 2 through 17 before and I don’t recall anything like this happening before, nor do I recall experiencing future iOS development bugs impacting existing OSes.

That sounds like something someone at fault would say …

… kidding.
