Black Pro Model

New iMac design (even if thicker, if better ventilation or liquid cooling)

I doubt it'll be thicker and if it will, it's not much. Liquid cooling is for extreme computers which Apple doesn't manufacture.

Silent Running

It is already

Matte Screen Option

Needs redesign

Faster processor

That's more than likely

Better 24” LED monitor

Maybe.. I doubt we'll see LED unless  redesigns iMac

Backlit keyboard

+ New Mighty Mouse = I'm buying

Minimum 8 GB RAM

Unless Apple adds 2 more RAM slots (total of 4) it's not gonna happen.

Better Graphics card or cards

Of course

USB 3.0 ports (and more of them)

Not yet.. More than 5 would make it look like cheese with holes

Absolute quality build

For company size of Apple, it's impossible

I'd like to see:
- Anti-glare display as seen on the MBP
- Improved quality on iSight camera

speaking of alu black

It's definitely not a step back if Apple went for a similar design, I just hope it has got an alu back, then it's fine with me.

i see a small indication of an alu black mac... see attached... i was shopping for a hard drive at my local best buy and saw this and thought about ur post. lol you can see a alu black macbook pro right next to the WD My Book hard drive

I just want something much, much faster than what I have now (last generation of the white iMacs). The current iMac isn't different enough from mine to justify upgrading!

I guess we're about half way to a new iMac release, so what would you like changed or improved in iMac 2010?

Here's my list:

- LED Backlit LCD Panels,
- 30" Model,
- Quad Core Processors,
- Faster Onboard nVidia Graphics,
- >1TB HD Options,
- Updated Mighty Mouse,
- Black keyed / backlit Keyboard,
- Aluminium Build - File the sharp edges.

That's my wishes please Mr :apple:

LED, Glowing Apple, Better Graphics, 26"?, Changable Graphics Hard Drive and Memory, SD Card Slot (no matter what will be in it), Better speakers, Faster Processers, and a magnetic piece in the glass cover for the Apple Remote.

Agree with all of those, but if Apple was seeking to put a new LCD panel in the iMac, I wish it would be a 30" one. Sounds unreasonable now, but that is what most people said about 24" displays 5 years ago. The 30" model would allow for true desktop parts with better cooling, and more space for making swappable hard drives a possibility. At the very least, I think it would be nice to offer a 2650x1600 option on the 24", the 1920x1200 currently seems stretched out compared to the laptop resolutions.

i love the keyboard so just the change of mouse would be nice(especially the scrolling ball:()

imac itself..it's already beautiful enough, maybe some change of mechanics and price drop:):p

This is a bit off topic, but Apple should liquid cool their Mac Pros as they are extreme computers plus Xserve should be =)

Why? Mac Pros have regular clock speeds and full size case, no need for liquid cooling. Liquid cooling is for oveclockers and overclocking a Mac isn't possible really

Or for 2.7 GHz PowerPC G5 processors. :D But I agree, there is no need for liquid cooling in the current Macs if you ask me.

The Magnetic Key Holder

I have a late 06 iMac with a 2.0 Intel Core Duo and 3Gb of ram. But the thing I love the most about my iMac.

When I come home drunk and get busy on craigslist, I always know where my keys are at.

Actually I was talking about the backside of the iMac, I think it should be made out of Aluminum :D

Anyway the Black MacBook Pro looks cool, maybe Apple should consider offering it as an option. I would definitely consider buying it.

What i want to see

  • Desktop Processors, not soldered, i7 Lynnfield or Clarksdale
  • More powerful graphics, GT120 or equivilant as base, no more intergrated 9400m for the base
  • The Magnet for the Apple Remote
  • Support for more then 8GB - Move from 2 Dimms to 4 Dimms
  • Possibly a SD card reader? Not sure about this one, but I have to get an external one now
  • Possibly 2 FW800 ports?
  • Easier upgrade process - make it so that the back comes off, instead of the front, so we can easily upgrade/repair a bad HD/SuperDrive
thats all that I can even think of for it

So, I'm looking over the specs on the new i7 mobile processors and wondering if in fact the next iMac will be quad. I know that some stated here the problem with using one of these Clarksfield clips was cost and heat.

On the cost point, the extreme (i7-920XM) seems to run about $1K per in 1K lots. This is more than likely beyond anything we'll see in the iMac. However the next step down, the i7-820QM runs about $600 per in 1K lots.

With regards to heat the specs show the extreme (920) at 55w while the other 2 announced today (820 and 720) show 45W. The last 2 appear to be are well within the heat range of current iMac processors.

Thoughts and comments?

Heat isn'a an issue because iMac can handle 55W CPU and Clarksfield has intergraded Northbridge which is extra 10W and that means 45W Clarksfield runs as cool as 35W Penryn. Price is bigger problem. 600$ for CPU is quite a lot because current Penryns are less than 500$ maybe around 300$. Also the clock speeds may be an issue for Apple because 1.8GHz quad vs 3GHz dual will easily confuse consumers and left out quad without buyers.

Only time will show us...

I don't WISH for any features. I'm a paying customer, thus I can DEMAND features. If a company does not (want to) sell me what I want, I buy from someone else.

That being said, an iMac that could interest me wouldn't be very far from your configuration:

- 30" display (and NOT a glossy one)

- Fast nVidia 3D graphics accelerator (and yes, I want nVidia for various reasons - FreeBSD compatibility being one of them); the benchmark for "fast" is this: Can it play STALKER and CRYSIS at the full display resolution with all the detail settings maxed out at a decent framerate? :)

- the option to connect a second 30" display

- Sound chip should be able to produce surround sound (preferably THX-certified)

- A minimum of 8 GB RAM, better 16 or more

- A minimum of 2 TB internal hard disk, better two built-in drives

- A minimum of one Quad Core CPU, preferably with the option to have two

- Very low power consumption

- The machine has to be NOISELESS

- Full support for the 64-Bit version of Windows 7

- The Mighty Mouse sucks; I will use a Microsoft Mouse and Natural Keyboard

Yes, this machine could tempt me to trade in my Mac Pro. :)

Just out of curiosity how many of those do you think you will get ;)

Simple answer here is to build your own:D

From my experience and opinion, I can tell you a high 1.something GHz quad core processor and a 3 GHz dual core processor are virtually the same performance wise, especially when the applications aren't optimized for multiple cores.

Plus there's the cost; $600. Too much. Add Apple Tax and that's at least $1000 for a processor that's not even worth $600 to begin with.

Like many others, I firmly believe Apple will have Nehalem in all computers with the introduction of Arrandale early next year.

Did I mention I hate GLOSSY SCREENS. Why have we gone backwards through time. I could not believe how cool it was when i got my Samsung HD TV and PPC Imac and could look at both in sunlit rooms. I have not replaced either but now i have no choice and cannot for the life of me figure out why this is what is being offered, the same experience i had with a 20" CRT TV or original iMac??????????? Lets face it the glossy screen is just an optical illusion..... Hell, Id give up universal healthcare for a matte screen!!!!!

Does anyone have Steve Jobs personal e-mail??? :)

Rob

white iMac

I'm probably the only one here, but I'd like to see Apple produce a remake of the 24" white plastic iMac with the same screen but updated guts. Fine with me if they make it thinner etc.

I'm just selling my 24" 2.33GHz white iMac and am using a 24" alum 2.66, but I can say for sure that the white one is still preferred--it has the better matte screen is not cold to the touch, is handsomer (all that white without the stupid black border around the screen that the alum one has), and the edge don't bite.
