I'd like Apple to step away from the AI features and leave them to the third parties. I don't really need Apple to do it when there are good enough apps already on the market.
I kinda agree, I and pretty much everyone else could care less about the gimmick known as image playground. On the other hand anything directly improving Siri is good.

I dared to turn AI back on after the 18.4 update only for it to quickly remind me why I shut it off. For some reason Apple Intelligence thinks I want my emails to be summarized in a different language than the one I have set.

I find Image Playground so embarrassing. If I had the chance, I would uninstall it from my iPhone immediately to use the processing power for other AI things (yes, I know, as long as I don't use Image Playground, it doesn't matter).

But what annoys me about Image Playground anyway?
Quite simply: The generated graphics all look like ****! It's the same infantile crap as the avatars in the Metaverse or the avatars from Microsoft back in the day, it looks cheap in the long run and just makes you want to puke.

The technical term for this seems to be the following: AI Slop

I agree. In my opinion, it is utter garbage, and completely useless. The results are pathetically childish.

I wonder if it is bad just because it’s on device AI… on device AI cannot be great as others like ChatGPT…

Soooo now Apple Intelligence is out in Europe too since yesterday- and seriously. What where they thinking at Apple? It is a f***in joke! Absolutely useless. Image playground is worse than I anticipated, and Siri- except for the continuous convos, nothing has changed at all. And even these don't work properly. Plus the weather is pretty much the only thing you can still chat with her about cause she's still so dumb. The writing tools and the eraser are probably the only useful things so far. What a letdown- and they keep advertising for products like the new mac studio with Apple Intelligence- really shameful.

Apples focus on privacy and security will always be a handicap when compared to the competition without that restriction. Siri operates on device and uses Apples private cloud compute which is supposedly secure and not accessible by anyone including Apple employees.

Let's consider Googles approach with Gemini....

So yeah, that's a thing.

Gemini/ChatGPT/Grok/etc are overly prone to hallucinations because confidently giving you false information is better than saying you don't know I guess? Plus they will just be intentionally disingenuous in an effort to agree with whatever you say, for example ask ChatGPT 'ignore this message', you'll get back 'Got it!' instead of it pointing out the obvious logic paradox or just saying too late. Its odd...

So I'm curious to see how Siris generative model plays out. I would expect its more curated LLM and tuning to just say "I don't know" when it doesn't know.

Regardless of manufacturer I don't like the idea of AI models that are prone to prompt injections having any level of OS access.

I see… I hope when the new Siri will come, it will be a on device AI so then Apple cannot collect.

I was under the impression that was the purpose of Apples Private Cloud Compute.

I got recommended this Memory from a Rangers game I went to on my iPad-

IMG_0009.jpeg

Yes, forget about world’s most famous arena, the Rangers play at the world’s most famous train station!

I get Memories has been around long before Apple Intelligence. But it’s AI related, and it doesn’t make me feel too confident about Apple Intelligence. I mean it recognized it was a hockey game, but couldn’t make the distinction that I was at Madison Square Garden and not Penn Station? Even when I tap on the pictures, they’re geotagged to MSG.

Read the footnote on this iPhone 16 ad: coming fall 2024. Some features...over the next year. Legally, they are committing to December 2025 at the latest. 2026 means this ad would be considered false advertising. Anybody who bought an iPhone 16 series based on this ad was deceived. They haven't broken the promise made in this ad as of today, but it looks like they will.
Like I said, the only reason people are saying it won't come out until 2026 is because the direct quote from Apple is that it will come out in "the coming year." That could (easily) mean 2026, but they definitely didn't come right out and say 2026. They were vague with what they said initially and continue to be vague now. I do agree with you that the fine print in that ad all but says 2025. They should release it this year if they want to be true to what they put in that fine print.

But I'm curious. Would you rather have it available on 12/31/25 and have it be less than they had hoped, or would you rather it come out in the first half of 2026 and meet Apple's standards?

I haven’t bought iPhone 16 but I actually bought iPad Air m2 and MacBook Pro m4 after wwdc24… you think I might win this case?
You have to be joking first of all you don’t really have a case. Secondly the only people who win in this sort of case are greedy lawyers. If you’re so upset, go and buy Windows and android.

They sure are (Google).
I’m not sure Apple under-delivered. The basic features are there and I find quite useful. It’s the first layer and it will improve. The advanced features (Siri) I believe were not promised at launch but spoken about “coming”. I and everyone else knows Siri has a long way to go and has not been improved since inception. I hope they make it a priority but not at the expense of security. I don’t want a Google-like AI.
I agree, the summaries of messages and emails are pretty damn good and useful. I cancelled my subscription to Grammarly as writing tools is just as good and he’s available everywhere with no hassle. The problem here is ludicrous over-expectation from people without the knowledge to judge what can actually be delivered.

No I apple still better than android and windows…

I think the "animation" style is pretty childish, but the "illustration" and new "sketch" style look more realistic.

I don't think it's perfect, but I used an "animation" style image for a flyer that I made and it looks great. The style was fitting for what I was using it for though.

Congratulations to your kids, it’s still utter **** in my opinion whether you like it or not.
I agree, Apple Intelligence isn’t a big deal now… I hope it’s going to be better with iOS 19 but I don’t think so.

They’re putting a lot of effort into so my guess is the final product will be excellent. It might not be what the masses want but it will be secure and functional.
