Despite this I have yet to see anyone who has pointed out any inaccuracies with his review.

1) Wasted time with weird jokes, like showing a goofy, clumsy person as a "typical" Apple customer.
2) The RAM changing procedure was completely unnecessary- If anyone wanted that, they could have easily used iFixit.
3) Upgraded the RAM to DDR4-2400, whereas Apple uses DDR4-2666. Therefore, performance results are not accurate.
4) Said he didn't like MacOS without actually providing reasons why.
5) Didn't talk about the fan noise nuc8i7hvk suffers from, the only proper competitor to the Mac Mini in this review.
6) Ended the review by calling the Mac Mini a "neat little machine", but titled the video "Apple killed the Mac Mini"- very misleading.

They did kill the mac mini tho...
The Mac Mini in 2018 is not what a Mac Mini should look like in 2018, or the type of components it would have.

It's a Mac Midi or something.

Well, they improved it, that is not killing it. You can compare what it looks like today with your view on what it should look like but you have known Apple long enough to appreciate what it looks like to them.

No, I didn't mean it like that.
When unibody Mini was released, it was one of the smaller SFFs, so lets say this is it's establish market sector, and it was built predominantly around mobile components.

8 years later, other SFF systems such as NUC are 25-50% of the size of the Mini, and they have smaller PSUs.

They killed it in the sense of, they killed the Mini for the established market sector, and released a computer under the same name that has a different market sector and different target audience than it used to have.
That didn't happen for the MacBook Pros, or iMacs.
(Well it happened for the iMac, but they renamed it to iMac Pro)

None of these are inaccuracies in the review. Just things you didn't like. #3 is the only thing you could say *might* be an inaccuracy and even that is such a trivial thing, it does not really change anything. #4 he did answer, he said most of his dislike (he said it's not his favorite) was due to not using it. And #6, he is saying the mini is not the machine it used to be, which it isn't. It is a sensationalist headline for sure, but not inaccurate.

It is a very accurate, honest, and rather positive review of the mini. I am really not sure why anyone is upset by this review.

Linus runs an extremely successful YouTube channel* and web site and he’s quite knowledgeable.

He’s a Windows guy (not surprising, if only because things like computer builds are his bread and butter), and this is as close as he’s going to come to a positive review of an Apple computer.

Note that he installed extra RAM but, while mentioning the possibility, did not use an external GPU for his graphics tests. That was not an accident.

The title of the review is pure clickbait and Linus sounds like he’s being forced to be more positive than he’d prefer. He's just playing to his audience.

* His review has been up less than 24 hours and he’s already closing in on a million views.
I quit watching his videos a few years ago. Constant click baiting titles, bs promotion of products etc. I remember supporting one mouse in a review or something and basically saying this is the best mouse ever, yet when videos of his own computer were shown surprise surprise he is using a different one.
And that's just one thing.
Having knowledge...sure, but that's not enough.
Having millions subs means nothing about his quality. Look at all the millions who listen Justin Bieber or Kim Kardashian.

When I first got our 2010 mac mini it did not support a decent monitor like my 1600x1200 dell. Now it supports 4k. I think it is BETTER than the machine it used to be. Yeah I can’t replace the ssd but that is why I upsized to 1tb. That means the mini is more expensive, but not worse than it used to be.

The Mac Mini is supposed to be an entry level machine that can do the basics for people who need very little. Upgradeable parts is not what it's about anymore than upgrading your refrigerator or dishwasher.

It's like complaining that it's so hard to put a new engine in the car that you bought. Of course it's hard,t hey want you to purchase the car with the upgraded engine from the factory.

But did you watch this video though?

How exactly is the top of the line 6-core CPU with 4 thunderbolt3 ports via 2 controllers and 10Gb ethernet "entry level"?

It has more full-speed thunderbolt ports than a full-sized iMac 5K.

The only thing they could do more for the form factor is stick a 8068K chip in it, but it would probably catch fire.

I agree with upgrade-abilty tho.

I did not say it was worse. I was pointing out that this mini does not have the same mission as previous minis. As Linus said, Mac would be a better naming choice than Mac mini, since it isn't mini and now includes desktop chips and is a much more capable machine than the mini ever has been.

In fact, that is the whole point of this thread. People (not you) are reading the title of the review and think it is a negative review. When you watch the review, you see that Linus is saying the Mac mini of old is dead and in its place is a new Mac mini that is far more capable and probably more accurately not called "mini" which implies small and less capable.

It's an option. Apple will let you put higher level parts into the machine if you want to pay for it.

Nobody said its worse or better than it used to be, just that it's not the machine that it used to be, which is true

4x Thunderbolt 3 is not an option, and Space Grey is associated with Pro machines.

You can upgrade all Macs to oblivion if you want. The only using workstation class parts is iMac Pro.

In the same manner, a "macbook pro" can be an entry level machines. You can still upgrade it to 8000$ if you want to

That's the video this whole thread is about. If you did not watch it how can you have an opinion about it in this thread?
I gave my opinion on Linus. If you can't see the connection, that's your problem.
You are not going to tell me what and where I can say anything I want.

I never told you what you can or can not say. You can say anything you want. Since this thread is about a specific video made by Linus, I was just wondering why you did not see that video, since you are reacting in this thread. But hey, say what you want! If you want to go off topic, go off topic, but don't be surprised or offended if people ask you why you go off topic.

Soldered in nvme m.2 is not an improvement. in fact the most expensive option of 2tb is not the gold standard for size as the new intel comes in a 4tb size. I won't bother saying that the toshiba is noisy and whines like a little bug. But max option of 2tb is restrictive and already out of date since intel has a 4tb available. I could say it is a downgrade from the 2014 since a 2014 allows for a 4tb sata ssd and a flash option. So it was not improved for internal storage. it was not improved if you wanted a 1 piece unit without extra parts. I like the look of it without a lot of stuff attached to it. So apple fails again. Every time I look at my dell 7060 micro and then look at my 2014 mini purchased 2 weeks ago I feel less attached to apple gear.
And I have
1 dead 2011 mac mini
3 good 2012 minis mid i5's
1 good 2014 mac mini base
1 good 2014 mac mini mid i5

And won't be buying the 2018
So will the 2019 mac mini bring replaceable ssd/nvme m.2 back?

whines like a little bug.

Indeed.

Whichever way you choose to look at it the 2018 Mini is an improvement.

Upgradeable Ram
Desktop CPU
10G Option
4 USB-C
and so on.

They are improvements, the only anchor point to view whether these are improvements is by comparing it to the previous one, not anything else. No provider can meet every individual's needs.
