It is indeed a crisp morning in London.

I just walked past the Regent Street store just now (8:10am) and it looks pretty quiet. No black curtains, but also nothing I could see too different from the usual except:

- Where they normally have Macbooks on the front desks on the left when you walk in - there are empty spaces here with only an iMac on the end of each table - makes it look pretty bare

- It is the neatest tidiest Apple Store I have ever seen! Even all the mice are in the centre of each mouse pad - sweet! I guess with Papa Steve coming, everything must be in order...

Many papers here are reporting it will be released today. Hope they are not going to disappoint a lot of eager people. I am trying to work out a reason to duck out of the office around 4pm (perhaps)..

Perhaps making table space for iPhones?

People in London, grab a camera and head to Regent's Street! I don't get to London until Thursday, so I can't do it myself. :( But I will need a phone when I arrive! :)

once the apple store goes down we'll know its for sure. The store doesnt go down unless theyre gonna be adding new products!
Did the store close on the US launch even, MWSF, a whole 8 months ago!

So long as the announcements herald going there I will certainly post up some eye candy for the MR crowd ;)

There's a thread on the iPhone forum with this ;)

No, I don't think it's insulting at all, it's the same as having the Keynote speech that the iPhone won't be released until June, it builds up the momentum and pre-orders for when it eventually goes on sale.

Plus, not everyone is aware of the event today so it generates media attention in tomorrow's papers for the masses and makes them aware of the launch date, that way first day sales will be boosted.

There was no pre-order for the US iPhone, and that had 6 months pre-hype. The media are already covering this event like its the launch day, before its even happened. I cant see your logic behind this argument!

ok, so by about 11 this morning, we should know if it is out today, that gives me 30 mins to drive to the station, and after a 2.5hour train journey, i will arrive in london at 2pm, get some lunch, wander down the regent street, by which time the clock will strike 3.30, i then wait in line for 30 mins, get my iphone, hop back on the train, and are home for supper: happy, and poor.

apple wont be extra generous to the first few customers will they?
(like when regent street was opened, or the PS3 uk launch?)

Mum is no longer the word?

Could Aunty be the new word (aunty being the british pet name for the bbc) As it is meant to be about now that a mac version of iplayer is announced, this could be the big story, now the itms has been tested with the limited american content.

I doubt this would need the store to be shrouded and for mr jobs to make that announcement. That would be something Mr BBC (or Mrs BBC) would make!

I suspect you may be heading home for supper a little later than 4.00 :). Nothing against you, but I kinda hope you are--the long line will be good for all of us iPhone users :)

"The Government set up the BBC Trust to represent the interests of licence fee payers, and to ensure good governance of the BBC.

The BBC Trust has responsibility for ensuring that the correct degree of scrutiny is given to all proposals from the BBC Executive for new services (such as the iPlayer) and any significant changes to existing services. To fulfill this duty, the Trust conducted a Public Value Test on the BBC Executive's proposals to launch new on-demand services, including BBC iPlayer. This included a public consultation and a market impact assessment by Ofcom.

In the case of the iPlayer, following the consultation, the Trust noted the strong public demand for the service to be available on a variety of operating systems. The BBC Trust made it a condition of approval for the BBC's on-demand services that the iPlayer is available to users of a range of operating systems, and has given a commitment that it will ensure that the BBC meets this demand as soon as possible. They will measure the BBC's progress on this every six months and publish the findings."

I'm fairly sure that's delayed. Probably contingent on Microsoft's Avalon technology.

last store update

I just walk by the apple store in regent street (9.10 am) on my way to work and i snapped a couple of pictures from the outside. the window display is still the same as the past days, but the inside has been emptied out. on each table there are only two imacs on each end of the table and that's it. all the ipod nano and classic have been removed and posted on the side tables close to the wall. a lot of people already waiting outside for the press conference.

more news to come at lunch time.:D
