Good to see you guys on the other side of the pond are being treated to your own event in your own time zone.

cheers!

Now the US has to wake up in the middle of the night to see it for a change :)

No one thinking maybe something more than just the iphone is being announced? upgraded version of iphone? mac tablet? new mighty mouse? mac pros? who knows. i dont think theyve ever held an event like this before. i guess its posible they are trying to create a bit of a media frenzy in the uk like the did in the states. meh. im 18 on october ninth so aslong as i have something to spend my birthday money on then im happy :D

I've never thought this was just an iPhone announcement do. Or at least just launch details. I'm betting it'll be Rev B iPhone time or some major software update too.

Pray to God this device is being upgraded for 3. It's pretty much needed if it wants to be competative in Europe.

wow. i hate all this hype. i'll be severely disappointed if all this is is announcing iphone availability in the UK. i really hope we see a software update fixing many of the issues and adding needed features.

I'm definitely going be going down there tomorrow afternoon. If they do release the iPhone on the spot which looks likely (why else would they put all the covers up) I will probably break down and indulge into a contract and get one

It would be quite disappointing if this is all just for the iPhone. Not that the iPhone won't be released/announced tomorrow, just they could have done that with some adverts and some info on their website, no need for a special event. I'm still hoping they'll reveal a lovely new 3G version although I sincerely doubt it. I wouldn't expect anything else hardware wise either - that'd probably be saved for the Paris expo.

So USA gets the whole of macworld devoted to its release date. It wasnt even released that day! We deserve a bit of excitement once in a while. And its good to have an event in the UK the rest of the (mac)world seem equally excited about.

We never have to wake up at the middle of the night. I dont actually know the time difference, but 10AM Cupertino, is 6PM UK. Perfect time for when i get home from work, and make a nice cup of tea, and sit down to read the event as it happens!

Huh? We need some excitement 'round these parts too you know.

If there's any update to the iPhone (hardware, 3G, 16GB) then I'd say the actual release date is in November. If they're released tomorrow, as some have speculated, then I'd hazard a guess at a release on the day as well as the announcement.

The iPhone hype can go for too long if you ask me. People here have seen it all over the news for the US release.

And to fuel 3G rumours that won't annoy the compensation hungry americans:

What I am finding weird is how much effort they are putting in to cover up the shop. I was guessing they would just leave the shop closed let in the Media/Press and someone (UK head apple guy??) would give the announcement at the stage area at the back. Then for the remaining hours they would brief staff and possibly change the outer displays in the shop.

The fact that they are doing the whole cover up means something big is coming!!! I am hoping for unlocked 3g rev b iPhones (Slimmer and lose the chrome border 8/16gb) starting at £300.

I agree. We've been through all the hype and the excitement for the US launch. If they've sorted a UK network and it's the same EDGE model, then just get on and start selling them - further hype and build up is unnecessary.

Yea, imagine how much they've lost by shutting the store for a day (or however long its been). It will at the very least be launched tomorrow.

Although didn't they say something about the iPod Touch being the first touchscreen device we're getting?

Launch of both devices :p

i doubt an upgrade

think about it, all the americans made a huge fuss when 2 months after release there as a 200$ price cut, think how anoyed they will be if the iphone is now upgraded to 3G.

steve would have a lot of apologising to do!

EDIT: sorry didnt refresh befor posting, Redgaz26 said the exact same thing (worded better)

3G Don't be greedy

3G iPhones, anyone?

Lucky Brits... :p

Unless Apple has a new supplier for 3G chip sets you can be assured of 2-3 hours of runtime with 3G active. The current 3G chips drain my powerbook in less than two hours while I'm running my 3G wireless card. I'm more than happy with the 2.5G we run here in the US and if I need more consistent high speed transfers I find a WiFi hotspot. I personally would rather have 8 hours of usable time with my iPhone at the sacrifice of a few high speed (?) data connect moments.
