Realistic mode on:

iPhone announced - 8GB, not 3G, O2, offensively high tariff, available October
iPod NegativeBlacks made available in the UK

That's it.

Dream mode on:

As above but the iPhone is 16GB and available there and then (even I'm not going to hope for a 3G iPhone at this stage, not that it matters a jot to me)

anyne considered that it might the release of leopard (os 10.5)

Well considering the slogan for this event is "Mum is no longer the word" and the phrase "Mum's the word" means keep silent or say nothing. "Mum is no longer the word" can be interpreted to mean talk free, keep talking (or something along those lines) hence an iPhone announcement.

I think you're very probably overestimating the technical knowledge of "the majority of buyers" ;)

On the contrary, I think UK mobile phone users are some of the most technology savvy consumers out there! People seem to be in a never-ending race to have the latest and greatest phones in the UK. I think most people would be able to tell you whether their phone has got video capabilities (which 3G phones typically have and the 1st Gen iPhone doesn't have), whether they can send and receive MMS messages and how many megapixels their built-in cameras have.

Apple have reported that Regent Street is one of, if not the most profitable stores they have.
I'm sure that's true. Although you wouldn't believe it - most of the people I see in there are only there for one reason - to rape the free WiFi access. I stood at the back of the auditorium once, watching a demo. And then it dawned on me that 1 of the 80 people sitting there was actually watching the presenter. The rest had their earphones on and were surfing the web, mostly with PCs!

Its great - last week I didn't have my phone on me and needed to contact my dad. I just walked about 10 minutes, and downloaded Skype at the Apple store to talk to him.

Maybe Apple will present a collaboration with an english equivalent of Starbucks? That would be something which could deserve a well designed pr-launch. Of course, after they announce the iPhoneUK...

if you're actually interested in buying something, it's useless.... you can't get near the computers because of all the tourists emailing home and the kids on their facebook or bebo accounts!

Steve Jobs at the Sanderson

Why would it be shut today?

I was in the shop @ 6.30pm today, and it reopens to the public at 4pm tomorrow.
The subsequent sales of iPhones will more than make up for the store closure.

Has anyone seen Steve Jobs at the Sanderson??:D;):D

Why not The Beatles.

The Beatles.

1. Although they were from Liverpool, after their initial ascendancy, they lived and recorded in London.

2. Their Saville Row Apple Corp. office was just around the corner from the Apple store.

3. The last two, Paul and Ringo are still Brits even if Ringo lives in the US.

4. It does justice to The Beatles to announce this at the London Flagship store.

5. The iPhone is already out there and everyone knows it will be released in the UK and Europe. This is not news or necessarily worthy of this kind of hype.

6. (My own reply to my point 5.) Then again, this kind of hype for the iPhone is good for business.

If this announcement is about The Beatles, I think I will have to make a vow never to allow myself to get excited about an Apple "event" ever again. I couldn't give a flying about Steve's "excitement to be working with the Beatles".

Steve, if you're sitting on the edge of your bed in the Sanderson right now, pressing Command+R on this page every five minutes to see the hype you're building up...

More thoughts on "Why not The Beatles?"

7. Perfect time to release for Christmas. Allows for buying iPod and loading it, or buying gift certificates.

8. With the new iPod announcements recently, perhaps they held one in reserve and are release a "Beatles" iPod tomorrow to go with the songs.

9. From a business perspective it will enormously boost their quarterly profit by creating huge sales for the last two weeks of the quarter (ends on September 30) and will of course create monster sales for the next quarter (October, November, December).

I like Apple stock!
