wow, that's good. even if the pentium d's arent as fast as the x2' s they're still really good processors :)

iMac G5 1.8 (R2) - 1.5 GB RAM

PS CS2 - 2m 3s
PS CS - 2m 3s

Edit - I was also running X Resource Graph, to check for disk access as well as CPU temp. Since there was no Disk usage, this CPU test probably overstates how well units with slower HDs like the iBook performed.

63.4 seconds with Indesign, iTunes, Mail, Acrobat Pro, Illustrator, FontAgent Pro, Safari, and Azureus all running. Not too bad, iGuess!

Old Ti PB (6 min. 50 secs) with CS2

My old Ti PB took 6 min 50 sec for this task. It is running Tiger, and I was using Safari and synching my LifeDrive at the same time. I have not yet tried with my other PBs (12" and 15") and I hope those other two will do a much quicker job.

Mac Mini 1.42
1 gig ram
tiger
Photoshop cs2

Filter completed in 2:10.

This was perhaps slightly better than I expected.

Even a Mac mini whupped you  (The G4 has a better Altivec unit clock for clock than the G5, which can explain why the PBs and Mac minis perform so well compared to the single processor G5s)

Seems, like AMDs X2s are faster than any Mac including the Dual 2.7. AMD's X2 4400+ seems like a really good CPU, even better since you can easily overclock it. I wish apple would have chosen AMD over Intel.

57s

Pentium 4 northwood 2.8gig hyperthreading overclocked to 3.73 (1066fsb)

1 gig ddr400 dual channel overclocked to ddr533

wd raptor

Time for an upgrade

PBG4 667 with 60gb Toshiba GAX HD, 1gig ram, PSCS2:

5min 55sec

So a dual 2.7 is about 7X faster.

-------
iMac G5 2.0 Ghz, stock HD, 512Mb RAM, CS2
1min 48sec

Dual G5 2.7gHz
3gb ram
WD 250gb 7200rpm SATA
ATI Radeon 9650
PS CS2

2:45
Dell P4 2.4ghz
1gb ram
WD 120 gb 7200 rpm Ultra ATA
ATI Radeon 9600
PS CS

Power Mac G5 Dual 2Ghz (Rev A)
1GB DDR SDRAM
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 64MB

I will be upgrading to 2GB RAM and an ATI Radeon X800 XT within the next two weeks. We'll see what difference that makes

:eek:wrt that overclock!! what sort of cooling does that need?

My 12" PB (see my sig) did this in 2 min. 19 secs. with Safari running and screen spanning with 20" ACD. It was well faster than my 15" Ti PB which took over 6 min. if my memory serves me correctly.

2 mins 19 seconds on a 12" PowerBook (1.5GHz 512MB RAM) running Photoshop CS

...and now my fan is roaring...

OK I have just repeated this test because I have upgraded to 1.25GB RAM.

2 mins 18 seconds this time. So 1 second faster, yes, you read correctly - ONE SECOND faster by upping the RAM by 768MB. That can't be right can it?!!!

was running photoshop + mail + safari + itunes. pretty much the same apps as in my first test.

however my fan isn't roaring this time around!

i'm a new switcher (i still wait for my powerbook a order 10 days ago)

AMD Duron 751Mhz
ATI allinwonderpro 128 (rage chipset) 32mb vram
