You and me both. I start traveling there regularly for work again in September.

Moving a family member there this weekend. Will see how it looks. Moved another family member not too far from where @G1Ravage lives a few weeks back and it was meh on Maps.

I can now see the new maps in Italy on iOS 14.7.1.

Sooo...it took roughly two months after "new detailed maps" for San Francisco launched with the iOS 15 beta, and now Los Angeles has the new detailed maps as well.

Do we think it'll be another two months before we get New York City or another big city?

Agreed. Part of me thinks all the new iOS 15 Maps features are totally awesome (which they are). The other part of me remembers that I live in an area that still doesn’t have all of the iOS 14 Maps features. I have the new data…annnnnd that’s it. Not even the cycling directions!

Since I’m still waiting on iOS 14 features, I have a feeling the iOS 15 ones will take a while. I’m honestly surprised Chicago wasn’t on the list for the super-detail, especially when you consider the fact that it’s the 3rd largest city in the country. I would have thought we’d see (in addition to San Francisco) the top 5 largest. They have New York and LA included, but I think covering Chicago, Houston, and Phoenix would have made sense.

14 hour drive to Arkansas today…went without a hitch. All traffic and road closures marked. All poi’s correct. And 3D buildings! It was a beautiful thing. Oh…the difference in arrival time was due to stops for sit down lunch and gas stops. It was spot on.

I’m in Australia and just so excited for the new map data. Even though I know it’ll be around 2-5 years before we even get a chance at these detailed cities. So jealous!

2 observations:

-Should have avoided I-80!
-You either eat really fast in restaurants or you were doing drive-thrus whenever we take a trip like that (at least when the family is with me) the food stops invariably add 90-120 minutes to the trip, which is long enough already!

Hah…we did avoid I-80 as much as possible.

And I’m sorry, but all day trips with me mean eating in the car or if I’m generous, you get to sit down for a meal, but you better eat quick.

A bunch of new POIs have appeared on the map near my home in North London. I can't understand where Apple is sourcing this data. One of them is the wine merchants 'Oddbins'. This branch closed when the chain went bust in 2011. Another is a former antiques shop where I remember a restaurant being there for years, and a quick internet search using the address brings up a review for a restaurant on that site in 1999.

Where is Apple pulling this data from? These are new POIs. I have been 'virtually' up and down our main street many times since Apple Maps launched, and regularly submitted corrections. I like the interface and I like the routing, but what can be done about the rubbish POI data? It's why I can't give up Google Maps completely, I don't want to be in an unfamiliar town and want to find a wine shop and be sent to one that closed ten years ago...

I have once again submitted corrections to the POI data, but once again I wonder why I bother correcting errors that Apple have introduced.

Is this the case in other countries, is this a UK problem? Is there any way I can get Apple to address a structural problem rather than just keeping on submitting more and more individual corrections?

I’d just keep submitting the corrections. They’ll figure it out!

It‘s just Apple being Apple. They keep moving POIs into green fields instead of buildings next to them.

Also, the ratings & photos section in the profile panel just vanished for me. Probably means this is dead for now in my region.

The poi thing also happened here right before (and right after) new Maps was updated.

It’s probably related to data dumps they are doing for the new detailed Maps. May fix itself shortly after it comes out.

Road labels while navigating continue to behave oddly, vanishing the entire route, except returning sometimes at the very end. Also sometimes showing a blue label bubble when the name of the road you’re already on isn’t changing, and you’re not turning! Similar behavior occurred two years ago prior to the launch of the new map data.

The vast majority of highway shields are also not appearing while in navigation mode. I used to be upset at this, but now I know it’s just a byproduct of the behind the scenes work prior to a new Maps launch.

I think I mentioned the 3D models for Rockefeller Center had gone missing the other week?

Two-thirds of Rockefeller Center have now returned on iOS 14.7.1. However, my friend just downloaded the iOS 15 beta, and on his map, Rockefeller Center is still missing!

Wow that’s a really bad backup. An entire hour
To be clear, like Waze, the “hour” represents the amount of time you will be “in” the traffic, not the actual delay.

In both cases during my trip yesterday when there were long back-ups, I happened to get into them just as they were cleaning up, so the time adjusted down soon after I was in it…just lucky.
