Didn’t want to overload one post with too many photos. lol
Today, I decided to use Google Maps and Waze for the first time in my new car. Other than being in super-widescreen, no real differences to speak of. Google Maps on CarPlay has always had glitchy “exit” symbols in the directions box, and that interestingly manifests itself on the dashboard view as well.
Unfortunately, when you use Siri on CarPlay to take a screenshot of Google Maps or Waze, the top menu slides down before the picture is taken, which kind of ruins the shot.
I’ve also learned that using dashboard view is a detriment if the app tries to alert you to a faster route or a warning of something up ahead. It’ll speak out loud the diversion or warning, but if you want to see it or select it, you have to navigate back into the full screen app.
Note: In this photo, Google Maps found me a faster route, and was suggesting I take it. But the route overview is backwards. It’s marking my current route as the faster route, and the new route as the current route!
One thing I like about Waze is that it incorporates HOV lanes as separate roadways, and will direct you into them if you choose so in the options. Presumably, this allows Waze to judge speeds on the main highway and HOV lanes separately.
Okay, no more photos for today.
