Most of the time, maps in CarPlay is in mode A. And sometimes it goes into mode B. Yesterday, I made a long trip. 80% of the time, he stayed in mode A and the remaining 20% in mode B. I specify that I am in a country that does not have the new map data.

I’ve decided on what I think is the main missing feature in CarPlay…. The category “Fast Food” should be a staple among the predetermined selections in the search drop down.

All of them make sense except for the “food” ones that come up as they always lean toward restaurants and not fast food establishments.

I know I can ask Siri and usually do, but this is one that actually annoys me when I select it. I’m not saying it doesn’t happen occasionally, but who actually stops at a sit down restaurant while on a drive somewhere?

Maybe keep those suggestions, but at least add “Fast Food” or “Drive-Thru” as an option.

Okay, a few more observations:

-With the wireless CarPlay in the BMW, CarPlay was *not* playing any audio from notifications, such as incoming text messages, even if my phone was *not* in vibrate.

-If I plugged in the phone to charge, sounds would *sometimes* play, but not always.

-On the BMW CarPlay, the "blue selection cursor" would always rest on the up arrow to the right of the ETA bar, no matter what I did. On my Genesis, so long as I leave the blue selection cursor on one of the right side buttons that vanish when you don't touch anything (such as the route overview), the cursor disappears along with it.

-Both in Vegas and here in New York, the feature where Maps zooms out during heavy traffic only works on certain highways, and not others. Very weird.

Hmm, I also have a BMW with wireless CarPlay, and observe:
- notifications show up on screen without sound (have the phone set to silent, so that's what I expect :)). Tapping a notification does read it out aloud.

- I don't notice a difference when wireless charging or charging through cable connected to the USB-C port under the central armrest (which can be used with other phones and shows up as a USB connected device)

- the selection cursor remembers where I left it (rotate the iDrive controller to move it around). For me I have it at the upper lower corner where you would active the 'home (?)' view (map on the left, connection/music/upcoming calendar event on the right).

- I'm always using the North = Up -> no need to zoom out... ;-)

Are you referring to all iPhone notifications or just those related to Maps? I have wireless CarPlay on my Audi and I get very limited to almost no notifications.

Maybe it's because I was leaving my cursor resting on a button that was about to disappear, and the BMW system didn't like that.

- no audible iPhone notifications (as I expect)
- Maps notifications I have set to (something like) 'Important only' and I do get those spoken out to me

I'm honestly missing the iOS 13 and prior levels of smoothness in Apple Maps. Using CarPlay or just the phone itself in a holder, the zooming, panning, turning animation just isn't as smooth as it used to be. I made a bug report about this for every version starting with 14.0 but I still have not seen any improvement.

I also used to love Apple Maps because I was able to look ahead with it cause it was zoomed out more than other navigation apps, but since iOS 15 it's incredibly zoomed in. I'm sure to show all the fancy new details they put in but I hate not being able to see ahead for the next turn or two in unfamiliar areas.

I'll agree with you here. Living in an area that doesn't yet have the super detailed maps, I'd rather it be more zoomed out. Once the super detail comes to my area...I'll be ok with it being zoomed in.

Speaking of CarPlay stuff, I hadn't opened up Google Maps in a long while, so I opened it up in CarPlay the other night, and noticed that the "detailed" Google Maps was now visible on CarPlay, as long as you're zoomed in to a certain point, and it was even visible while navigating. (Building outlines were present for the first time ever while navigating, but not 3D representations.) I did, however, spot a glitch where the numbers within highway shields were falling off the right side of the shield. lol

But sometime yesterday, Google pushed out an update through the App Store, and now everything seems to have converted back to how it used to be. The extra detail during navigation is gone.

@MozMan68 Click on the link to see the video Traffic jam. You will see that Apple maps displays traffic in blue when it should be in red. I stayed for more than 10 minutes. At the end, Apple maps decided to put traffic red (photo). I find it difficult for Apple maps to display traffic jams in the city. On the other hand, on the highway, I don't have this kind of problem. Maybe Apple should review its algorithm for traffic jams in the city. Do you think the new map data is more reliable to display traffic jams?

ahhhh...yes...new Map data is MUCH more accurate in my opinion. Thanks for sharing...very interesting!

I feel like traffic jams on local roads are harder for Apple Maps to gauge. On a highway, it’s very obvious when traffic is forming. Cars previously moving at 45 to 60 MPH are now going 10 to 20 MPH. That registers quite obviously.

Oh local roads, cars are already moving slower. Not only that, but even if you come to a stop for a few minutes, it could be because of a traffic control device. So Maps might have some sort of protection in their algorithms to not “show traffic” on local roads too haphazardly until they’re certain it’s actual traffic. Unlike Google Maps, which will often show red traffic approaching intersections, because it was registering the traffic sitting at a red light.

I drove to and from work today using Google Maps on CarPlay, and it was just okay. It was very vocal about traffic conditions and accidents and such. But visually it’s still quite meh, and Google Maps continues still mispronunciation obvious directional abbreviations, such as “Tun” and “Is”.

I’m suddenly seeing a strange new “traffic” color on the Traffic map. It’s…gray. Not sure why it’s there, or what it represents. It only appears on the Traffic layer.

I also see that. It’s all the exit/entrance ramps for freeways in driving mode. It’s very weird. It’s not a traffic color. It’s just what they color freeway ramps.

User error….

I have to think it’s just a glitch, but keep us peasants in non-detailed city areas updated.

It does seem to only appear on *some* exit ramps, but only a few. They're not showing up anywhere else. If you zoom out slowly, you can see the gray color matches perfectly with the appearance of the exit ramp once you zoom out far enough to lose the City Experience lane details. Seems to be a glitch, but it only occurs on the Traffic layer.

Today a report an accident, hazard, or speed check has disappeared in Brazil. Is this the case in other countries?

It happened to me in Canada a month or so ago (pretty sure I posted about it when it happened) and it re-appeared the next day. Seemed to be entirely on Apple’s end.
