Here’s a fun one. The algorithm blurred out the face on the FDR statue in look around.

So this afternoon while driving out of New York City, I noticed that the more detailed “imagery” ( trees, roads, etc) extended out into Westchester County. Question for the group: is there an expectation that this level of detail will eventually extend across the entire Apple Maps territory as we hope that Look Around will? Are they related?

Well, Look Around in the New York City area originally stayed within the borders of the 5 Boroughs, plus a bit of eastern New Jersey boarding the Hudson River.

When the City Experience detail came to New York City, Look Around expanded north into Westchester County, and a bit deeper into New Jersey. The City Experience detail matched the Look Around zone. In fact, it seems that all City Experience areas, for the moment at least, perfectly match the Look Around areas for that metropolitan region as well.

That would *seem* to indicate that City Experience will expand across the map at some point. Makes no sense why City Experience would arbitrarily move north into the Westchester County suburbs. There aren't even any special hand crafted buildings up that way.

I agree…seems like that may be the plan…and would explain why LookAround is taking so long.

I originally thought they would just include the street detail as originally announced. But maybe now they’ve decided, why not just include the trees and elevation as well.

Enhanced POI’s are just a bonus.

I had fun making a table in Excel on all the image collections made by Apple since 2019. Not surprisingly, I noticed a sharp increase in the image collection in 2020 + 91.23% and 2021 + 48.62%. January and February 2022 follow the same trend +66.67% and +57.14%. We can therefore imagine that this year will again be prolific in collection. Between May and August, Apple carries out the largest number of image collections over a month. In May and August 2021, Apple reached 22. Finally, June was the month when Apple has most first collected images of a country (since 2015). I'm really looking forward to seeing what Apple has in store for the future and I hope for a good surprise from Apple regarding Maps.

Something is going on in the background.

I made a few trips today navigating on CarPlay. The junction view is...not working at all right now. Seems like it's been turned off. I also noticed the overall image quality seemed a tad...smoother, and a few times while sitting at a red light, the camera seemed to zoom out a bit to let me see my next turn. Also, the POI font size seems to have finally stabilized.

I'll keep an eye on things. But they're working on...something.

It sure about junction view (but will try in my ride in from LaGuardia this afternoon).

The “zoom out at red lights/stop signs” feature was added back in 15.1?? Only works while routing and when stopped at a light/stop sign so you can see more of your upcoming route. I love this as that is when you most likely have the possibility to glance down at the screen safely.

Yeah, I was gonna ask you about that whole zoom out thing from the betas. I have *never* experienced that before yesterday on the public builds. I'm on 15.3.1, of course. Which is why I think they're working on some of the nagging issues with CarPlay. Like my different camera angle programs!

EDIT - Moz, just watched the video you uploaded onto YouTube ten minutes ago...junction view is definitely not working. Same on your phone.

What is the name of the YouTube channel so that I can see the video please?

@G1Ravage

Wondering if junction view would even show up in my video…the driver never actually took any of the suggested exits from Apple and went his own way…I think.

You’ll notice that he avoided literally every suggested “exit” that might have shown junction view…right?

Has anyone ever seen the junction view on CarPlay? If so, is it as accurate as on the mobile phone?

Even if your driver ignored Apple Maps' exit suggestions, it would still show the junction view approaching the exit. Your map was doing what the map does when junction view isn't working: it suddenly zooms out a bit to more of a top-down angle (almost), and then zooms in slowly as you approach the exit.

As of today, Maps on CarPlay was behaving the same as it always had for the past few months. Guess the testing is over for now. My junction views are back, and behaving the same as they were previously.

Yes…but CarPlay has camera issues at the moment. When starting a route, there are two possible “camera scenarios” that could take effect. The camera behaves differently depending on which “scenario” activated at the start of the route. Here are the two different junction view angles on CarPlay:

I noticed that on Apple Maps traffic jams are better represented by the colors orange/yellow and red on highways. However, in the city, I find Apple Maps having great difficulty applying the color code of traffic jams. I still see blue too often while driving at a very low speed or even stationary for several kilometers.

Does anyone know why my music/podcasts stop once I reach my final destination? It keeps happening and I'm not sure if it's a bug or a setting.

I don't think this has been mentioned yet - but looks like after a server side change, editing opening hours on iOS 15 works like iOS 14 now.

Enter hours, select the days, done.

Perfect when there were different hours across different days - a pain to either add each day differently in iOS 15.

Still a ways off, but I'm looking forward for an actually decent opportunity to travel with Apple Maps. To date, my use case has been to and from work. Don't need the directions, so my use is mainly for traffic issues...and just to see what Apple's been up to! That being said, we are hosting a foreign exchange student in the upcoming school year and she has mentioned wanting to travel during school breaks. (Totally fine by us! Before COVID, that's how breaks were spent. Fingers crossed, it'll be great to get back to that)! And by travel...she specified road trips.

Of course, here I am, being a Maps geek and thinking "SWEET, I actually get to really try out these Maps now, for REAL"! I need to start compiling a list of potential places to go ?
