Good move. My experience with Apple Silicone Cases have been far from being satisfied. They chip and wear our in just few months. I would not recommend those cases to anyone so I am glad Apple is considering the change.

Another plus. A "woven" watch band, designed to be "recyclable" aka biodegradable, or "rot able" can degrade while on your wrist forcing you to buy more bands or, hopefully, lose your watch forcing another buy. Win-win for Apple.

This is a big mistake. The silicone cases are their best case, and one of the best iPhone cases of all time. This thing is surprisingly durable and on record has protected many iPhones from 50ft drops with not a single scratch on the phone. I speak from first hand experience as my 13 Pro was accidently dropped over five times in the time I've had it and it got not a single scratch, the silicone case taking all the damage.

Big price increase

It's astonishing so many people really believe Apple as a company with 160,000+ employees and massive overhead costs is somehow immune to inflation. While the rest of the world somehow deals with it and doesn't increase prices.

Don't like Apple prices? Simply vote with your wallet and find other tech products that offer a better value. Easy.

I agree. Countless times they've kept my phone from slipping out of my shirt pocket when picking something up off the ground. They'd also work well deterring someone from quickly jacking my iPhone and running off with it when in SF's downtown.

If the rumor is true, I suspect Apple will introduce an even better case.

I seriously doubt that as a lot of times when Apple fixed something that wasn't broken, the end result ended up a lot worse. Example: Making the Macbook Pros thin and their only ports being USB-C, their excuse being USB-C was the only port you needed since it was "better" than magsafe and the display ports. The laptop design was so bad it set the Mac back five years and in 2021 they had to reverse course and bring back legacy ports.

My silicone case is taking all the damage from simply carrying the phone in the pocket. I’m not dropping my phone from 50 nor 5 ft but still, the silicone is flaking off and the only reason why I haven’t replaced the case is that I’m considering upgrading my iPhone with the upcoming release. I’d never buy this type of case again as the durability is really poor.

Of course you do!

I've enjoyed my MBPs and MBAs over the years.

So what I gather is all the current gen stuff will last longer and is more durable and resistant. Duly noted.

Note to self: buy up a bunch on discount

This would be super sad. I love my silicon iPhone cases. They have great grip and are super durable. I buy a new one every few months

My point of view: None is a superhero in ethics, and most definitely not Apple.
But we can all do our part, the best we can.

For instance, I’m a vegan, so I allowed myself to buy a leather case to my Mini.

While I agree with you, it is also important to note that Apple has not announced the price of the new case material and it may not actually even be increased. People such as the person you replied to are complaining about something that hasn't even happened yet.

Honestly as long as they replace it with something better I’m all for it. These silicone cases are horrible. They stick to your pockets and rip and tear after only a few months of light use. Bring back the bumper! Lol

Wild Speculation: I have an unsubstantiated thought that this new material will resemble Adidas PrimeKnit material which has versions made from Parley Ocean Plastic. If thats the general idea and execution, I think people will be presently surprised; as its tough, retains color well, and is mostly water and stain resistant.

I have no proof of this, and I'm just basing my speculation on rumors, but it seems to me that a readily available for mass-consumption woven material that is environmentally "friendly" could be the route Apple takes. Obviously Apple wont use, or mention Adidas or Prime-knit, but I wouldn't be surprised if it looks, feels, and is similar in almost every way to it.

I'm a naked phone person, but a case with a Parley for the Oceans PrimeKnit type material would be cool for a phone case.

Not sure whether you’re being ironic or serious. “Super durable” and “a new one every few months”..? 😑

I'll be very glad if Apple stops selling leather products. But the shock-absorbing silicone cases have saved my phones from fall damage a number of times compared to 3rd-party cases. I applaud a more environmentally-friendly solution, but only if the protection is on par.

I was never impressed by what I saw from the silicone cases - they seemed to disintegrate far quicker than the leather cases.

I used the official leather cases on my iPhone 7, X and 11 Pro (still in use) and they've all held up great.

Although this year I’m hoping the titanium would give me the confidence to ditch the case
I have to ask: what's your confidence level on no case for the 15 Pro?
For a moment there, I thought the back looked like Ti as well and I almost fell out of my chair (forget how they expect to Qi charge with a Ti back). Alas, frosted glass.

I’ll probably get a case. If I had my way, they would ditch the Qi charging and the glass back. It would be a lot more durable in my opinion. But I realize the Qi charging makes a lot of people happy.

Where are you on the case?
