Remembering Leather Case. iPhone 14 Pro. 🟤🟣
I get it from a marketing perspective. If they come up with a nice alternative that's vegan and just as good or better, that would be great for both the environment and animal welfare.
This happens to all my leather cases tbhI used to get the silicone case but moved away from that. Due to friction over time, silicone cases in my experience begin to peel or have frayed edges. It gets kinda ugly.
Maybe for some materials, but generally I don’t think so. My leather iPhone case barely has a lip as it is anyway. The friction of the case hugging the sides combined with the MagSafe magnet more than holds a case in place.I wonder if the slimmer edges of the 15 Pro screen will represent a challenge for case makers…
Not to my leather cases. I've only used Apple. Yes, they will patina which is normal, but I have not seen them peel and fray like the Apple silicone cases. This happens to all my leather cases tbh
Leather in itself is a sustainable material. But the entire mass animal slaughter industry (for meat or whatever) is not sustainable at all. The methane the animals emit, the enormous amount of water that's used, the transportation... so many things about animal products are not sustainable. So it's an obvious choice to get rid of it.how is leather not sustainable? you don't help the cause with misinformation.
The Caudabe Stealth and Synthesis cases have the strongest MagSafe magnets of any case I have ever used... stylish, functional and protective.I hadn't bought leather since XS Max, they do seem to wear down much faster than silicone even when throwing it a purse. But always felt great to hold. I always have to use a case cause my grip is just bad on metal lol.
I used two silicones through the life of my 12, they still look great and surely they have fallen to the floor on planes and stadiums several times. I do prefer those 3rd-party plastic tough cases the most, but they don't hold MagSafe backs as secure.
Apple may not release any leather cases for the iPhone 15 lineup, according to the Twitter leaker known as "DuanRui."

DuanRui sources information from Chinese social media platforms, often revealing accurate insights into Apple's plans in the process. There is little other information about Apple's apparent move to discontinue leather cases at the current time, but "ShrimpApplePro" and 9to5Mac claim that they have heard the same information from other sources, so the rumor seems worth taking seriously at the current time.
Apple first released a series of leather cases in 2013 alongside the iPhone 5S. A refreshed selection of colors has accompanied every new iPhone model since then, featuring minor design refinements, such as the addition of aluminum buttons and MagSafe. Rather than overtly discontinuing premium case options, it seems likely that Apple could replace leather with an alternative high-end material that is vegan and has a smaller carbon footprint.

But the animals are still killed for meat products.

Been a long time since I used a case that had much of a lip thatd protrude into the front of the phone. My current case is so unobtrusive in that respect that I can see the side metal frame of the phone front on still.
Maybe some flimsier materials or those without MagSafe magnets will be impacted but.
My first Apple leather case was saddle brown, but unfortunately I just don't have them long enough for them to develop the patina I was hoping for. Even though I've now gone from annual iPhone updates to every two years, its just not long enough for the case to age nicely and there's no chance of the old case fitting the new phone. If true, it will be hard to outdo the beautiful patina with older saddle brown leather
Please share your sources for this leather being a byproduct of cows already killed for meat
Might be bad working on my part, but by a lip I was referring to it wrapping over the front surface of the device, to basically grip from the front and rear with the bezel partially covered. Cases will protrude past the glass so that when sat face down, the display doesn’t touch the surface. What cases I’ve used more recently don’t do is encroach on the display or even the bezel itself in any significant way but rather are tight on the sides and have a MagSafe magnet, which means there’s no need for much overhang on the front. In turn having a smaller bezel probably won’t limit the ability to make a case too significantly as the bezel isn’t used by the case.To me a lip that protrudes past the front of the phone is the whole point of the case as it prevents the glass from hitting a hard surface dead on
Otherwise what is the point of a case at all?
(Genuine question)
Now you get to enjoy an "eco friendly" (ironically less eco friendly than leather) option instead. Just like the alternative food products that go bad quicker or crumble in your hand.

Hopefully that makes more sense? Definitely agree the case needs to be marginally taller than the phone to keep the display off flat surfaces when placed face down.
I guess not. It’s “vegan leather” which is a commonly used and understood term for something that is leather-like. Like “oat milk” (not milk, but milk-like) and “peanut” (not a nut, but nut-like).But then it’s not really leather, is it?
