i think lauryn hill is fantastic...i'm not quite in agreement of putting that over Thriller, particularly considering that Thriller revolutionized essentially all music that followed it.

the rest of the entire list is whatever, just some people's opinions without a clear guideline to clarify how this is going to work.

the actual top spot is questionable.

There is irony in the fact that some folks on a Mac site think that the ‘Best’ of something should be judged by sales/streaming volume.

Feeling like I switched universes because I've listened to a lot of offbeat arthouse/cool-guy tryhard music without ever hearing about lauryn hill.

It sounds good but this sounds like one of those post-hoc things where they try to pretend an artist was way more popular in its time than they really were.

Buy hey, at least there's no U2 on there

I listened to some of the Lauryn Hill album. These are my first impressions which can obviously change upon subsequent listenings. The first song is an intro so no comment really. Didn’t really like the second and third songs and both are rather skippable to me. ‘To Zion’ which features Carlos Santana on guitar was good. To my surprise I had actually heard ‘Doo Wop (That Thing)’ before, I just didn’t realize it. I suspect many other people have as well. This song was excellent. ‘Superstar’ and ‘Final Hour’ were decent with the latter being a pretty fun listen. ‘When It Hurts so Bad’ was kind of meh. Potentially another skippable one for me. At 16 songs, that’s the halfway point and I didn’t have time to listen anymore.

That Apple list is about as credible as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. No credibility at all. Considering how many devices Apple sold with that U2 album nobody asked for, I’m shocked that U2 album isn’t #1

What a list! Evidently ChatGPT hasn’t really heard of post punk, EDM and about a dozen other relevant genres that it barely touched on in favor of the most predictable and boring choices from the “golden age” of rock and roll.

My prompt was “of all time” so I think those didn’t make the cut, not anything after 2000 for that matter, which sounds right to me

My prompt was ¨Generate a list of the best 100 albums of all time¨. No conditioning. It could have listed rap albums but it didn’t. I think we can agree that either prompt made a way better list than Apple’s.

Lookee — ChatGPTs O is into the Oldies.

That list, like any other, be it Apple or Rolling Stone or Steven Wilson, is hyper subjective. Because there are no neutral best ten.

First, some posts indicate that not everybody realizes Apple ranked 100 albums, not just 10.

Also, it would’ve made a big difference if Dylan was 4 spots higher? Ok I guess lol.
To me? No. To Steve:

…lol…

Hmm, it seems perhaps you’re unaware of this, but people don’t always read the article before commenting. Case in point…

In any case, it’s kind of weird to be so combative over me simply stating the ranking of the album of the artist you had referenced. If you want to take offense to that… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I wrote basically the same thing but I added “popular music” to albums.
