Top ten lists of any form of culture is ridiculous, and this list is a perfect example why.

Outside of the ******** that is Eurovision*, music is not a contest with a winner.

*Eurovision is to music what WWE wrestling is to sports. It resembles the real thing, but it’s all just a show. And top ten lists are for people who don’t actually listen to music.

I’m 44. Never heard Lauryn Hill before, didn’t even know the name. Started that album 10 minutes ago. Pure cr@p. Can’t believe there’s no Pink Floyd 😕
Huh… I’m 47 and I certainly know her. The Fugees were huge in the second half of the 90s.

I didn’t like them (and neither her solo stuff), but I know them and her.

I agree but then again it seems that we're not allowed to disagree on this forum without the risk of being cancelled, lol. People can have different opinions and that's ok. Some users don't seem to understand this.

What's interesting is that Lauryn Hill's The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill was the LAST full album she ever released. I'm actually surprised she hasn't released a new album since 1998, despite her own comments. In short, it's almost as if Hill became a one-hit wonder, though on an album scale than a singles scale.

Somehow Dark Side of the Moon was only 28 and no other albums were mentioned. And somehow Kanye was higher on the list, that was just one reason I couldn’t take this seriously. I don’t think Rush even made the list.
This is so much about personal tastes. I'm not partial to Hip-Hop but I recognize it as a music genre. I used to listen to the Pandora music streaming ervice and found lots of interesting things, like international music. Like Miriam Makeba from South Africa. Lovely but I never would have found her on my own.

The hyperbolic criticism of this woman is very telling.
How? There are many r&b albums better than this album. Every Beyonce album is better than the miseducation of Lauren Hill. Knowing what these results are based on would be helpful (copies sold, streaming, etc.) Opinions are subjective but as a fan of all kinds of music, Lauren Hill's lyrics don't speak to me and I'm not a fan of the melodies in her music. If you enjoy the album, good for you, but I personally think the album is garbage. Silkk the shocker makes better music than her and he stutters so much that he can't even stay on beat half the time. Lol

It’s not my genre, but even as generally ignorant of mainstream music as I am, I was surprised that not only had I never heard of the number one album on the list, I didn’t even recognize the artist. Quickly skimming through the tracks, it wasn’t just not knowing a name, I’ve never heard anything on there either.

Wikipedia tells me it’s not a weird choice, though (bunch of Grammys, highly regarded, on many best-of lists. makes the list of all-time bestselling albums despite being at the tail end of the album era and tops a couple of its specific genres), so I guess that’s just how out of touch I am.

can’t believe they didn’t include throbbing gristle or caroline polachek or death grips or boy harsher in the top ten and i WILL be writing them a very angry letter because my subjective musical opinions are actually scientific fact.

Apple Music today unveiled its list of the top 10 albums of all time, with Lauryn Hill's "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" securing the number one spot.

apple-music-100-best-albums.jpg

The announcement is part of a 10-day countdown event culminating in a special finale featuring discussions with prominent artists and Apple Music hosts. "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill," released in 1998, was praised for its impact and relevance. Hill was given an award made of blasted anodized aluminum sourced from recycled Apple products. The top 10 albums list is as follows:
  • 1. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (1998), Lauryn Hill
  • 2. Thriller (1982), Michael Jackson
  • 3. Abbey Road (1969), The Beatles
  • 4. Purple Rain (1984), Prince & The Revolution
  • 5. Blonde (2016), Frank Ocean
  • 6. Songs in the Key of Life (1976), Stevie Wonder
  • 7. good kid, m.A.A.d city (2012), Kendrick Lamar
  • 8. Back to Black (2006), Amy Winehouse
  • 9. Nevermind (1991), Nirvana
  • 10. Lemonade (2016), Beyoncé

The selection process involved Apple Music experts and a group of artists, songwriters, producers, and industry professionals. This ranking is described as a modern, 21st-century evaluation of the greatest records ever made, created independently of streaming statistics.

In addition to the top 10 list, Apple Music has created 100 audio vignettes to accompany each album on the list, providing context and stories behind the records. These vignettes, along with additional content, are available across Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, and Apple Books.

A little late for April Fools, isn't it?

No we won’t because like more sensible boomers, we will realize that times evolve and change.
If that's what you think, then you should rewrite some of your comments in this forum because they contradict this. If you are ok with times changing then why can't you appreciate what people older than you enjoyed in their time? You can't just point a finger and try to cancel someone because they don't like the same things you do. I'm not going to the store to try and cancel dairy just because I'm lactose intolerant. In your effort to get the things you like accepted, don't try and take away what others like just because you're not a fan.

tusk is a better album front to back in my opinion. rumors has some skippers and silver springs not being on the original album is absurd. tusk is a better album experience imo, it’s so nice the whole way through.
Ahh we could debate this all day! 😝. Tusk has some gems for sure. But Rumors and Tango in the Night I can always listen to front to back!

i’m seeing a bit of a “no pink floyd dark side of the moon” echo chamber thing going on. idk if having an affinity for that album is a generational thing or what, but to offer a different take, i think that album is not bad by any means but i don’t feel it holds up to the amount of praise it gets. it feels like people’s go-to favorite album sometimes but practically every song on the album is played out to the point of not being enjoyable anymore. at least for me, that album suffers from an overexposure issue and i wish i could have come across it on my own without having it shoved down my throat since i was a kid.

i like lauren hill as number 1 because i didn’t expect that. but that album is incredible. if you’re hating on it in the comments you need to look past your feelings on this one because saying that album isn’t good because you don’t think it should be number 1 is just gonna make people question your taste.

There are albums going back to the 50's on the top 100 list. What year, in your estimation, did good music stop being made?
Never.
But "of all time" makes you think of something that stood the test of time.
Nothing from the last 20 years can be said to have stood the test of time, yet.
If people will listen to Taylor Swift in 2090, I'll be the first one (if still alive) to grant her the status of Music legend.

What’s with your incessant accusations of cancelling? Are you conflating someone simply disagreeing with you with being “cancelled”. Of course said unironically, as if you were important enough to be worthy of being cancelled anyway.

It seems wild to me to say there's been almost no good music released in the last nearly quarter of a century. Of course you're certainly free to that view though.
Well I am biased. My favorite musical decade is the 1970s. Selling England by the Pound would make my list. I’ll bet the people who came up with this list wouldn’t know anything about that album.

I would like to share my perspective on cancel culture. I find it to be an exaggerated phenomenon that often targets individuals without just cause. The irony lies in the fact that those who engage in cancel culture seem to lack a sense of humor about its implications.

I acknowledge that my stance may be perceived as contentious, but I assure you that my intent is not to offend. Rather, I wish to highlight that the concept of cancel culture can sometimes be taken to extremes, overshadowing the enjoyment of personal interests and freedom of expression.

My guy, cutting off the last 20 years of music would definitely not qualify as “of all time” by definition.

Zoomers are the center mass of culture now. This is a zoomer list even if it was fashioned by those who are not of that cohort.

Zoomers love their Abbey Road album cover t-shirts. That is the only way to explain how that album is on the list over more successful complete works like Revolver or Rubber Soul.

I don’t get the complaint either. #28 may actually be a record for DSotM on a list of greatest albums. It’s ranked lower on the 2003 and 2020 Rolling Stone lists. And the 2003 was even heavy on classic rock albums while this list has much more breadth.

The core of my music selection is made up of classic rock as well. My favorite band is the Beatles for instance. I can just appreciate other stuff as well. I’ll happily listen to Juice WRLD, Post Malone, and Doja Cat.
