And there are who knows how many great recordings of Beethoven's 5th, many of them with more or less equal merit for potential inclusion. There's only one Abbey Road. There's only one Thriller. Your complaint about not including any classical music is akin to complaining that Breaking Bad wasn't included in a list of greatest movies of all time. Yes, Breaking Bad is a truly great piece of visual art, but it's a TV show, not a movie. Give an example, what is one 'classical album' that you think has the most merit for inclusion?
There are living composers. I won't give an example because it's just my taste in music. Also, I am not a classical music expert. I listen to all types of music. I am not an authority for any genre.

Beatles, Michael Jackson,...the main instruments here are vocals. Some artists sing what others write.

If your list was 100 greatest works of entertainment you could put movies and TV shows on the same list.

They need their asses kicked for putting this out with a straight face. Frank Ocean not only on the list, but being in the top 5? Did they not see his terrible Coachella performance? Plus no Whitney Houston album on the list?

There are albums going back to the 50's on the top 100 list. What year, in your estimation, did good music stop being made?
For me it started with boy bands and nu metal (yuck to both) but pretty much most things from the 2000s onward is garbage. And yes, I know that’s just my opinion.

I agree with 1, but Blonde? Lemonade?

Hmm 😬
Blonde is phenomenal. But probably top 20.
I think Igor is better, personally. But both phenomenal.

I never got into the miseducation.

Dark fantasy should def be top 10.
Lemonade should definitely not be top 10.

It seems wild to me to say there's been almost no good music released in the last nearly quarter of a century. Of course you're certainly free to that view though.

Where is Dark Side of the Moon?

Each generation has a taste in music. I'd put even Weird Al Yankovic over Beyonce myself, but that is because we all have different taste. What no Bruno Mars? Creating an "all time greatest" list of anything is impossible unless you get so specific that it becomes irrelevant to most. I can see the posting now... Apple releases the all time top list of songs according to Gen Z listeners who prefer cross-over country/R&B, vote conservative, live in urban areas, go to public schools, and who's average family income is below 100k! Can't wait to download that playlist! And as to it being US-centric, let's be honest, it comes from a place where we have titles like "World Champions" for competitions limited within our boarders. But to be less negative, I do appreciate seeing lists like this. It pulls me out of my comfort zone and tempts me to go check out albums I may not have otherwise.... which means maybe it is doing its job well! I'll stream some of these but not buy. Kinda shocked ol' T-swift is not represented here. I guess Kanye must have stormed Apple HQ and demanded the Beyonce be the best. #KanyeSitDown

Each generation does have its own generation of music - but lets be honest, in 100 years which of those albums from 2006 onwards will still be recognised or listened to as much as The Beatles or Michael Jackson?

Seems bizarre there's no Sam Cooke, Fleetwood Mac, Bee Gees, Eagles (all way before my time), Oasis (who personally I don't like but there music pretty much dominated an entire decade) or about 20 others you could easily spout from the top of your head.
These are all artists/bands that you could play a song anywhere in the world and people will recognise it. Frank Ocean and Amy Winehouse on the other hand...

...and dare I say it - I think Beyonce peaked in the Mid 2000s waaaay before Lemonade.

Full disclosure: Millennial here 🤣

You need to look at the full list, mate. Rumours, Hotel California, and What's the Story Morning Glory all made the list.

Appetite for Destruction at 52 with so much 💩 above it...

A massive and enduring success, unlike others on this list.

As a fellow millennial... I agree! Though Amy Winehouse did make music that is enduring and is easily recognised internationally. Frank Ocean, meanwhile... 😂

At least they didn't give Billie Eilish number 1. 😅

I knew The Beatles and Nirvana would be in the top 10 but Lauryn Hill at #1? Doing something like this - where you take all popular music from the 50s to today and rank it just seems so subjective as to be completely meaningless.

All ‘best of’ lists are subjective and completely meaningless.

What do you mean, the Beatles made the list.
I'm definitely not a boomer, but man, they had some great music when they were young adults!!

Edit: I was referring specifically to the original boomers- born in the baby boom immediately after WW2.

Rather than using these lists as confirmation bias or getting mad over what’s on or not on it, folks should use it as an opportunity to discover some music they've never listened to before. I discovered Aja thanks to this list and plan on listening to some others, including Lauryn Hill. Hell, I’m no Swifty, but I was listening to 1989 the other day to see what some of her deeper cuts were instead of just the stuff you always hear on the radio.
I just did that (listened to Lauryn Hill, someone I've never heard of before, thank god).

What an atrocious insult to ears and auditory cortex.
