B&Q (certainly the store at Langley Mill) still doesn't have contactless either.

Did I read wrong or from 2020 retailers have to offer it?
If I remember correctly that's an EU thing. So who knows if it will apply over here now haha :p don't quote me on that though, I might be wrong.

I read that somewhere too. They should go one step further and make device verification/£30+ compulsory too. The last time I was in currys I noticed they didn't have contactless either. Quite ironic for an electronics retailer. Not that I actually buy from them anyway

I agree; nothing is 100% secure but Apple/Android Pay w/biometrics is definitely better and surely must have led to some fraud reduction across the board where it's supported?

Was at IKEA again last night. Spent £53.70 on Apple Pay.

What do most of you ask when you want to pay via Apple Pay? Do you think it's at the point where most people know what it is yet? I still ask to pay by card at most retailers because I know that the terminal will let me use Apple Pay instead of me asking the employee and them not knowing what I mean.

I tend to just say card. In the early days I went to the cinema and asked if I could use Apple Pay. The woman said they don't take it. I got my card out and then she said they take contactless. Doh!

I ask to pay by contactless. Often they've seen my phone and selected the option before I have asked so I guess that's a sign of people knowing about it.

Like Paul I used to ask whether I could use Apple Pay which led to confusion with me ending up having to explain how it works. That still happens occasionally in retailers that take payments over £30 when the staff don't know they do.

I was in a Sainsbury's petrol station this evening and the payment terminal had a label saying "NOT CONTACTLESS". Apparently they've been getting people saying the wrong pump number and then they're not able to refund.. I just said oh dear and left confused about why they can't process refunds like any other retailer and why this is an issue for Sainsbury's and not other petrol stations.

I would have thought it possible to recall the last transaction on their POS and refund it that way?

Mind I used to work in a petrol station. Some customers would tell you their pump number. I'd tell them the amount and they'd say "yes", pay for it and then say "you've charged me wrong".

Looks like Samsung Pay has finally arrived in the U.K. Doesn't look like many banks have signed on yet, Santander seems to be the only major bank.

Santandar and Nationwide, which is far fewer than when ApplePay launched.

Imagine how fiddly it'll be trying to find the finger print reader on the back on the S8, or putting your head down toward the phone for the iris / face scan.

I know for one if I got stuck behind someone at a underground station at rush hour trying to work Samsung Pay out I wouldn't be best pleased.

I wonder if you can pre-arm your Samsung S8 for up to 60 seconds beforehand like you can with iPhone/Apple Watch?

However from what I've read on Samsung's website the MST feature available in other territories hasn't been copied over here to the U.K.

From what I've read you can set a card as a transport card so that you can just place the phone on the reader without waking it or unlocking it.

Just saw this article in Apple News. Good to see but wish they'd sort out the Amex contactless issues at the same time.

Tipping point for Apple Pay as majority of UK tills accept limitless payments - The Telegraph
https://apple.news/ALkFxIW5mRsGRl_SzdHIsdg

It's great more retailers are accepting HVPs with Apple Pay but more places still need to a. switch on their contactless functionality i.e. PC World or b. update their terminals.

As for AmEx am surprised it's still problematic some two years later.

There's really no excuse any more. Now that the limit has been removed, those retailers who hid behind the excuse of their transactions being often greater than £30 will have to find an even flimsier reason.

I can't understand why they have made the decision to not support HVPs. Why would a shop intentionally want to limit the amount of money a customer can spend with them?

I noticed currys now have newer terminals then they used to. Contactless seems to be disabled though. Not long before it's compulsory though

Yes I think by 2020 every retailer has to be contactless enabled.

I don't know why many businesses aren't £30 or higher yet for AP as it's a much more secure method.

Just hoping in the next couple of years the TOCs will allow us to buy our train tickets at home etc and then be able to scan them at the entrance and exit barriers.

I've used the trainline app for their mobile tickets and it's great. I use Apple Pay to buy them on my way to the station and then just scan my phone at the barriers. I know it's not available on all journeys but hopefully it'll expand.

I think it's possibly more the case that a shop may not have much direct control over their computer systems, especially if part of a (lazy) chain.

Large clothing retailer ASOS have just added Apple Pay to their app. Their website says it's app-only 'at the moment' so I reckon they're getting it implemented into the website too.

If I'm paying contactless, I tend to use my card to be honest. It's as easy to get my card out as to get my phone out. I have used Apple Pay from the phone in Wetherspoons though to take advantage of their new(ish) at seat service.
