In the UK at least, mPay (the current most popular method of phone number based transactions) is limited to one bank account which will be used for all mPay transactions. With the introduction of this Apple Pay P2P system, a user will be able to flick between accounts!

A big feature for users with several cards and/or accounts in use.

Looks like Tesco Bank are going live soon with Apple Pay on their Visa Debit cards.

Just opened an account with them and received my Debit Card today; comes up with a Terms and Conditions page now.

Update: Tesco now support Apple Pay on their Visa Debit cards.

IMG_2842.JPG Has anyone attempted contactless for >£30 in Tesco recently?

I only ask as we had a update to our terminals (ahead of contactless Clubccards) and the receipts now say: Cardholder Device Verified.

I haven't tried but are we sure that "Cardholder Device Verified" definitely means greater than £30 is possible? I thought I read that someone once saw they had a device verified purchase but still couldn't pay more that £30.

There have been instances (I've encountered it myself) where I've had that before but it's capped at £30.00.

We get paid on Friday so when I go shopping after work I'll try it and see what happens.

If using the self serve till it might be worth selecting card as opposed to contactless.

I do get a feeling that Tesco doesn't like Apple Pay for some reason

I've pressed the card option over contactless before and it's still worked (under £30) when using iPhone/Apple Watch.

As Tesco have the PayQwiq app I can see why they haven't followed the likes of Sainsbury's/Aldi and had higher limits-because it allows for our customers to use their Clubcard/pay for their shopping in one go.

But once Friday morning comes around (or indeed Saturday, whenever I get to spend more than £30) I'll try it and see what happens.

Have a feeling those stores whose PIN terminals haven't had the firmware updated for contactless Clubcards will still be capped at £30 for now.

Anymore news on those contactless clubcards? It sounds interesting...

Any active Clubcard members will receive them by no later than the end of July; that's all we know really at the moment.

There's no mention of a set up along the lines of Walgreen's/My Coke like the U.S. but am hoping they'll enable it.

Used Apple Pay in Ikea the other day which was £46, thought it was a £30 limit for Apple Pay

IKEA were capped at £30 (they were last October) but another member of this forum visited at some point after that and they'd removed the limit.

As for Tesco-on the self service checkouts once you've started scanning the PIN pad will say "Present Clubcard" before you've finished the transaction and are ready to pay if the firmware has been upgraded.

Bad news: Apple Pay is still capped at £30 :-(

I've noticed over the past week or 2 people asking Tesco on Twitter if they accept Apple Pay and Tesco are just replying that they do with no mention of a £30 limit. Could this be indication of a change or are they just giving out wrong info?

I just had a look. I went back to a tweet in June and they’re still spewing the same old rubbish about the limit being set by the banks. It’s embarrassing that a retailer as big as Tesco still don’t understand a payment system that has existed here since 2015.

Go Ahead North East buses around Tyne & Wear are now (finally) accepting contactless payment including Apple Pay. Its not as refined or easy as on TfL transport in London but does at least mean that you don't have to worry about having change.

I'll be worried if the £30 limit becomes an issue for my 10 minute journeys any time soon!

That's good to know as I'm in Newcastle too!

I'm assuming it doesn't do a daily cap like TFL does then. Do the Metro machines take Apple Pay now? When I first tried they never.
