If anyone banks with Santander here's a little heads up. They're offering 5% cashback on Apple Pay transactions until 30th September 2017 with no cashback limit on their 123 lite accounts. http://www.santander.co.uk/uk/current-accounts/123-lite-current-account

Since I bank with them and use Apple Pay for ~90% of my transactions now I'm hoping I'll rack up a fair amount of cashback.
Not bad! I left them for Nationwide some time ago since they reduced benefits and increased fees.

Indeed. Their app is really nice too. Have just opened an account with them once I'd seen the news re: Apple Pay.

I signed up with them about 2 months ago, more out of curiosity (and the fact I got an invite) and even from a banking perspective they are very good. Answer messages quickly, and very tech friendly, they even updated to a iOS 11 beta compatible app quickly. What other bank does that?

I contacted them about ApplePay just after signing up and they promised ApplePay by the end of July, it's a sad state of affairs in the banking world that I was surprised when they actually kept their word ;).

I also like the fact you can submit proof of identity via the app and a few hours later it's verified and approved. None of this posting documents and waiting for a response or even worse said documents being lost in transit.

Nationwide, Tesco already worked fine in iOS 11 and Barclay's updated both their banking and Barclaycard apps quickly for iOS 11, so it's not just Starling that work quickly..

I like the packaging the Starling Bank Debit MasterCard comes in. It seemed much quicker adding the card to iPhone/Apple Watch too.

Agreed, I’ve had to phone Halifax and Barclays the last 2 times I’ve activated on my phone and watch, Starling just activated in the app, far more efficient.

Had Starling Bank before they had Apple Pay. They are one of the symbols that are the future of banking (Monzo is another, but they are behind).

Love that Starling gives you an instant notification once a transaction comes through.

Old-school ancient tech banks like Barclays, NatWest, Lloyds, Nationwide (especially them), Halifax...watch out.

Boon are a another great Apple Pay addition as activation is done through their app too and is just as seamless as Starling.

NatWest are trying at least; when I added the card on my iPhone I had the choice of verifying via SMS, a phone call or their banking app.

First time I activated my Halifax card I had the SMS option, every time since then it's always required a phone call , really annoying.

It's the same with my Lloyds Bank cards too-okay my call handler was really polite and soon got me on my way but as you say it's annoying-especially as one of the cards I use is linked to my iTunes account too.

Spent £32 in Home Bargains today and paid with my watch.

If they can get it sorted, why can’t Asda? Spend £30+ there too and had to use chip and pin :(

I don't know why but I honestly thought Asda were >£30.

If I had a business and was looking to reduce unwelcome costs such as fraud I'd be Hell Bent on taking Apple Pay given how it's much more secure than other payment methods!

I hate how badly trained the staff are. Had a checkout worker flip out at me for using my phone the other week claiming I was "breaking her terminal" and that she'd "need to get a supervisor" even though it al worked. The supervisor was like, it worked this time but in future please don't do that. How badly informed can staff be about this stuff?!

Very bad. It doesn't take five minutes to explain the process of Android/Apple Pay!

Needless to say I'd be inclined to take my custom elsewhere in the future...

What shops was this? They need naming and shaming. If part of a chain perhaps a message to head office is needed

Assuming from the context he means Asda, and they're absolutely awful when it comes to "head office customer service". I've tried contacting them before and essentially everything needs to be handled in store.

Clubcard Wallet integration on the way apparently. (Will believe it when I see it.)

Those referencing Asda might be interested in this I received the other day from their head office -

"Regrettably I am not able to answer your question in relation to the limit of £30 on this type of contactless payment. The team who deal with this aspect of our service have informed me that the reasons behind this decision are business sensitive."

So basically they have no intentions to implement; could their ownership by WalMart be a factor in this? - as they are heavily against Apple Pay.

Could be-they'll soon change their minds when people vote with their feet and start to support retailers who are >£30.
