Could be-they'll soon change their minds when people vote with their feet and start to support retailers who are >£30.

Unfortunately they are few and far between.

Asda - No
Tesco - No
Co-Op - No
Morrisons - No

Makes me wonder if there's something specific about Apple Pay they don't like

True... however the average 'non-techy' will try to use Apple Pay instore and just assume its their phone or Apple Pay not working. Therefore creating a bad stigma around the payment method; when in fact its the stores deliberately restricting.

I'm sensing 'Asda Pay'... coming soon; after all a great way to get customer insight into spending habits. Sure Tesco is laughing at the moment with - Name, address, age, spend frequency, stores visited, Brands purchased etc.

As we speak bet their creating pretty graphs for senior management based on - Consumer Spending habits, Most popular brands based on age etc...from that then predicting future spending patterns, investment required & areas to promote which items ;)

Asda could have done this years ago with a rewards card but they've always struck me as not very tech focused. Tesco and Sainsbury's are following Waitrose with scan as you shop, this is something I can't imagine Asda doing for years.

I'm not sure if people will vote with their feet, though I like using Apple Pay, I'm not going to drive out of my way for another supermarket. Asda isn't even my preferred choice but it's just easiest to get to.

Actually one Asda close to me are trialling scan as you shop. Haven't tried it yet but you sign up with your mobile number and start shopping.

I'll be sticking with Aldi and Lidl for the time being for my shopping. It's cheaper and they've got Apple Pay set up correctly. Right from the start.

I used to work at Asda, when our store had a refit it was meant to have scan as you shop, then it was delayed for 3 months, now 3 years later it is still not there.

I've been in the middle of nowhere this weekend on the Isle of Skye. Literally a little coffee shop on top of a hill and I paid with my phone. But if I pop to my local Argos I have to get my wallet out!

Have Argos even started updating their card readers yet? I thought 2020 was the deadline to enable contactless

I've used Apple Pay for over £30 in Tesco. Sainsbury's too.

Can confirm Sainsbury's as well, saw the ApplePay logo on the screen for a £35 purchase so used my watch and it worked.

Even the cashier overseeing the self service area was surprised.

Bill at a restaurant/pub came to £30.20. Was pleasantly surprised to see the contactless logo pop up on the card machine so paid with my phone! It's getting around…

Maybe I'm alone in thinking this but I have to laugh smaller chains/businesses are starting to accept Apple Pay >£30 but there are bigger names out there who continue to drag their heels!

I think the big chains are resisting support for some reason. Perhaps they don't like the secure/encrypted nature of it?

I'm not sure they are resisting, just as they are bigger it takes longer to roll out the software updates required to support > £30.

Interesting I was in New Look on Monday and noticed they are specifically advertising on labels attached to their card readers that they support over £30 contactless.
