Got the same email. Although its down to the retailer to also accept touch payments over £30.
Shame - I wanted to get my £10 cashback on the Barclaycard! (current offer - spend over £30 using Apple Pay and you get £10 cashback)

I had the same Barclaycard offer, I used ApplePay to pay for groceries in Sainsburys.

Sainsbury’s are one of the retailers that do allow payments over £30. Unfortunately, there are still quite a lot that do not.

Plenty do though, I was replying to @Ifti who was saying he couldn’t use the £10 cash back offer from Barclaycard.

Sainsburys was the option I used, Lidl, Aldi, Morrisons, Ikea, Iceland, WH Smith and M&S (plus more I haven’t thought of) could be used as well.

Finally was able to use Apple Pay in JD Sports for my new trainers.
Lets see when this £10 cashback gets processed!

From the email

• Your £10 cashback will be applied to your account within six weeks of you making your qualifying purchase. It will show on your account shortly after it is applied, and will be visible on the next statement you receive after that.

I work for Tesco but will have to use the same Barclaycard offer at either Morrison’s or Sainsbury’s seeing as we’re still waiting for the roll out of Apple Pay >£30 that’s been slated as launching this year.

Will be s0d’s law the offer expires and it gets the go ahead!

It is a shame that Tesco are so late to the party, especially as they seem to be so concerned about Lidl and Aldi who have taken higher payments for ages. But better later than never.

Yes, it should work, as it uses a QR code.

The Clubcard on anyone’s. Apple Watch is also QR so I’m unsure as to why it’s not been extended to Pay+.

I can understand if the Apple Watch had no form of biometric security but given that you have to be wearing it, or at least know the passcode.

The cashier in my local Texaco petrol station seems to think they accept Apple Pay over £30 so might use the Barclaycard offer there.

I’m not sure that would work as it relies on them scanning the barcode on the phone screen.

It should work as Costa can do it with a QR code on their club card.

Just the same as the Nectar card and Shell drivers card I think one of the main sticking points for Wallet adoption could be that the stores want customers using their apps to see the (sometimes sponsored) products and corresponding advertisements offered in the app.

Not sure about you but as soon as I can get a store pass into Wallet I tend to delete the app!

You could well be right on that point, but then again I only use the Tesco pay as it's easy to pay with compared to using another method and scanning the Club Card in the wallet. At least it's a one stop operation.

I've never considered doing that :)

No, with a physical card machine that was set up to take high value transactions with Apple Pay.

Very interesting, you’d never know though. I thought contactless was mostly restricted to £30 all over the UK.

I used Apple Pay on London Underground this weekend for the first time. I have to say it’s so sleek. No issues at all. I used my Apple Watch.

Contactless is, ApplePay isn’t if set up properly.

Lots of retailers have ApplePay (which allows >£30 transactions) rather than just contactless.

Is there a difference in experience when you try to pay above £30?! On a few occasions I’ve manage to pay over £30 by bringing the phone close to the terminal but most of the times it just failed. Not sure which retailers actually allow above £30 to be honest.

Many retailers who implement ApplePay have been noted in this thread.

There’s isn’t any way to tell whether it’s just contactless or ApplePay without trying and seeing what happens (that I can think of), but the majority of supermarkets for example, are ApplePay (Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Aldi, Lidl, Co-Op, M&S) with Tesco apparently on the way, only really leaving Asda out. There are many other retailers if you read back a bit.
