Right I've spoken to Apple and as the initial customer service rep couldn't help resolve it I was referred to a Senior Support Adviser who got me to un-pair and pair the watch to see if that helped but it didn't. I called HSBC a second time and spoke to another customer service rep there who told me because I had tried so many times my card was temporarily blocked from the process and someone else they had been dealing with waited a couple of days before trying again and got it to work. He said it was Visa who had blocked it and as far as he could see at their end my account was just fine.

I'm going to wait until Monday and try again and if it still doesn't work call Apple and HSBC again. It's pretty frustrating that it worked first time with my HSBC card on my phone and my Amex card on both devices. From the first time I tried to add my HSBC card to my watch it has continuously given me the same error message and it seems to be failing the initial authentication with Visa I suspect.

At the end of the day neither Apple or HSBC have been of much help in either identifying or resolving the issue. Both are asking me to call the other for assistance.

It's obviously HSBC at fault, as they're the only ones having major problems and they delayed 2 weeks, after originally meant to be a launch bank. Total cock up by them.

It's not just HSBC. I have had the same issue with MBNA since launch. The common denominators are Visa and Apple.

We all been posting bits and bobs about experiences we've had using Apple pay since its launch (me included) but had to share this one that just made me smile

So I was in Wilkos (who are now apparently one of the official supported partners), I'm at the till having my items scanned in by this lovely older lady (maybe 60 years old) as she scans the last item she looks up at me and, maybe after seeing my phone in my hand says "are you using Apple Pay ducky?" I was taken aback a bit and said yes, she hit the button on her till and smiled at me, I noticed that the contactless pad also references Apple pay now, tap and pay, by which time the fella in the queue behind me says "did he just use his phone to pay?" The cashier says yes and goes on to explain in detail about Apple pay and how it worked and so on....
Maybe she's a secret forummer on here :)

But in all the places I've used it, this is the first time a cashier has had an idea about it

Wilko seem to have been trained really well. They even know they can't take Apple pay via Amex at the moment (Will do from September) only chip or swipe.

I've been going back and forth between Apple and HSBC and I'm ready to tear my hair out from frustration. Neither seems to have any clue as to what it going on with my issue regards adding my HSBC debit card to my watch. I've tried to explain to them that I've managed to add both my HSBC and Amex cards to my phone and my Amex card to my watch and it's not a question of me entering the information incorrectly or a a hardware/software issue with my phone or watch.

It's obviously a problem at either Apple's, HSBC's or Visa's end. They told me the provisioning of cards to ApplePay is a three step authentication/authorisation process between the three. Apple cannot shed any light on anything that might be wrong. HSBC say my account is fine and cannot see any reason for any problem at their end. I cannot contact Visa directly my self. HSBC has agreed to get in touch with Visa and will get back to me in the next 24-48 hours however I am going abroad on Wednesday morning and won't be back until next Monday. I really hope this gets resolved soon.

Just use your phone.... Up until last week you had neither but the card.

Why I should I have to use my phone when the watch is perfectly capable of doing the same thing. Besides the watch is far more convenient and one of the reasons I bought it was for uses like this where I don't even have to take my phone out. It's even more annoying as I've not had any problem adding my Amex card to my watch but I don't want to use that card for day to day small purchases nor is Amex as widely accepted as Visa and MasterCard. At the end of the day HSBC should be more helpful in investigating where the issue lies and be able to resolve the issue for me. Also I have both my HSBC and Amex cards on my phone and I want to have both on my watch. I'm in the process of getting an HSBC credit card and I really hope I don't have the same issue with that too.

So one of the main reasons you bought the watch was for a service that had no release date and may not even had arrived for a year... Do you work for Apple?

No it wasn't one of the main reasons. The fact it had no release date is besides the point. There are a lot of reasons why I bought the Apple Watch. To be honest I don't appreciate the tone of your post or you questioning my motives and expectations. Apple Pay works on the Apple Watch. HSBC cards are supported on both the phone and watch. My Amex card works on my watch. I have every right to expect my HSBC card to work on both my phone and watch. Not to mention both Apple and HSBC should be making more of an effort to resolve the issue especially as there are others having the same issue primarily with HSBC cards and mine is not a unique case.

Fair enough. I've had no issues adding either of both my HSBC cards or First Direct card. All work seamlessly on both.

I was lucky, all my HSBC cards are added and work. There was a long delay with my credit card though, I eventually cancelled it and started again and then it worked within less than a minute. My guess is that the fault is on the HSBC end, despite being one of the biggest banks, they are awful at anything online. Their banking App is rubbish, their website isn't any better either.

I have no doubt it's HSBC's fault. They're rubbish!!! I need to move away from them.

Had my first 'slight' issue at my local Co-Op today. For love nor money could I get AP to work. Took three attempts before the transaction completed.

Don't know what I was doing wrong but I'm glad the store wasn't busy!

I'm with First Direct and have used Apple Pay twice, both times using my Watch, in Subway and Wetherspoons. It worked flawlessly both times, but I have a question:

In the Apple Pay section on my iPhone I have no transactions listed - is this because First Direct don't support listing them or is this because I used my Watch and not iPhone?

First Direct list transactions on the iPhone so I would guess it's a limitation of the watch.

I'm having the exact same issue with one of my Amex cards (The other two added to both devices fine). American Express have no idea what the problem is and Apple have no idea what the problem is and their Apple Pay team can't figure out the cause of the issue. It keeps coming up with "More than 3 people are associated with the device" but no one quite knows what that means and I'm the only person registered on the device. It even keeps coming up on Amex's system when there are no cards on the device!

Apple engineers looked at my individual case and have confirmed it is VISA at fault. I am contacting them now. Will keep you posted.

It only lists iPhone transactions. Though Amex does everything apparently.
