HSBC are seemingly trying to blame anyone but themselves, that's all I can take from all this.
They have at least compensated me for my time calling them; funnily enough almost immediately after I suggested bringing the ombudsmen in...

I have to verify the card by two methods, email or SMS. the number is incorrect and the email as well, how do I change these?

Hey guys,
Got a bit of an update regarding the whole HSBC 'Card not Added' debacle.
I am currently in contact with a HSBC Apple Pay manager and Senior Advisor at Apple. Both parties have stated that the only fix for now is to wait until a software update fixes the issue. Both Apple and HSBC are aware of the issue and are in communication to allow people like us to provision their cards. Apple have stated that the issue will be rectified by the full release of iOS 9, which comes out usually in mid-September.
HSBC believes that the problem stems from the fact that I was on the iOS 9 beta when I tried to provision my card. Even though I have restored to 8.4, the secure enclave has not been wiped and still contains data that is blocking the card from being provisioned.
HSBC + Apple are supposed to be contacting me this Thursday, so I'll ensure I let everyone know what they say.
Sadly agreed, I've been through to engineers with Apple and they say it is a VISA issue. HSBC are now telling me that because I have used my card abroad in the last 3 months(!!!) VISA are blocking the provisioning of the card. Woo...the Customer Solutions advisor told me not to use my card at all for 2 weeks. How. Fantastic. Is. That.
My first direct Credit Card now works in Passbook, but my debit card doesn't. Apparently this is "a security precaution" because I'm not in the UK at the moment. That doesn't make sense. Credit cards are by design able to be used any where in the world where they are accepted. That should have no bearing on whether the card can be added to ApplePay in the passbook.

I'm not sure I appreciate their reasoning, or the implications that my credit card is of less importance when it to comes to security.
I've actually heard that by using a UK based VPN, you can get around this issue. Could be worth a go?
On a different matter, I have actually just signed up for an account with Nationwide and expect to get my bank card early next week. If the card provisions without a hitch, then we can be certain that the issue is indeed with HSBC.
I'll be sure to keep you all updated with what I find out on the matter.
Never had a problem in the UK with my nationwide or Amex cards with apple pay.
I'm on holiday in the USA and I have a 100% failure rate.
I thought my UK cards would work out here???
Still nothing for Halifax. I suppose it's autumn
Thought I would tweet Lloyds again today. This is their reply.

I wonder if Lloyds and Halifax will go 'live' when the final release of iOS 9 is unleashed on the masses.
VPN doesn't work
I see, sorry to hear that. I actually heard that it did work from this link:

Apple has just released iOS 8.4.1. Can anyone confirm/deny if it fixes the provisioning of HSBC debit cards?
I doubt it, it's going to be a back end thing to fix, on HSBC's end. Nothing Apple can do on their end or the iOS end.
Where did the learn more link go to?Lloyds Internet Banking just popped this up
